Critics' Lounge / Re: Rework of old Bg's...

Ah, thanks for the suggestions!Ã,
Yep, it's a stairway. I was more concerned about how the right railings look, though, but a concrete block is a good idea... :)
Did a minor edit and tried to incorporate your tips.

Critics' Lounge / Rework of old Bg's...
Wed 04/08/2004 12:59:21
Hey - Recently started to realize I needed to change the size of my bg's for them to fit in better in the game, so I began with reworking some of my older backgrounds that needed a good going over anyways... :)
This one you might remember, posted it in the lounge quite a while ago .

My main concern is the shading - I'll be darned if I can get it to look right, so at the moment it looks rather akward. I'm also sure the perspective have some issues... It usually has...
As usual though, any other help/suggestions/c&c/tips are welcome!Ã, :)

Cheers!Ã,

It's a pop/death metal/electronic kinda thingy

Hey, Jockstrap, that sounds like an interesting combination! :) Have you got any song samples anywhere so that one can get a listen?

Yeah, I'm a member(vocalist) of far too many bands and projects to mention, but the ones that we have been able to produce the most with is:

Ingnis - Hybrid Metal. Mainly a mixture between Thrash, Power and Death Metal, but since we all have som many different influences, you can hear occasional bursts of Black, Doom and even Nu and Skate Punk!
Our homepage is http://www.ingnis.tk , although it's unfortunately in Swedish. Free Mp3's from our demo can be found atÃ,  http://www.soundclick.com/bands/5/ingnismusic.htm , though... :)

Svetlana - Experimental/Drone/Doom/Noise/Ambient-metal, or something. Most of the time a two-man project, concentrating on making gut-wrenchingly heavy and psychotic music. Absolutely not song-based music, if "music" is the right word for it... It's more about moods and droning atmospheres.
Influenced both by obscure psych-groups such as White Noise and other drone groups such as Sunn O))), Earth and Pelican.
Homepage: http://www.svetlana-drone.tkÃ,  Mp3's: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/8/svetlanamusic.htm

Sarlacc - Black Sabbath-ish and blues-rocky Stoner. :) We haven't really gotten started yet, but things are on the way. Heavy Seventies Hard Rock.

Powderwitch - Our very own über-grim-necro-evil Black Metal/Grindcore Project... ;) Heh... Mostly done for laughs, but we have some pretty bad demos behind us... Homepage might be on the way...

Cool to see many other "band-folks" here as well! :)

Well, my personal opinion in all this is that I think everybody has a right to do what they want with their body, and sometimes it looks good, and sometimes it looks less good. :)
Have none meself, but have absolutely nothing against people with piercings/tatoos, and as I said, it can often look very good.Ã,

And yes, I think that tattoos can be art, no doubt about it - If the creator/person who has the tatoo has put down a lot of time on the motive, and have a deeper meaning behind it, what is the differende from a "real" piece of "art"?

If you want some really nice tattoo-pictures, you can check out this girl here:
(Ah, yes - Female nudity warning! Beware, workers...) http://naughtynaughty
I admire her courage to go as low as that... :) Or maybe I'm just a dirty bastard.

[edit by eric, i dunno how appropriate that link is, it's less showing off a tattoo and more pornography]

Fair enough... I suppose it wasn't that appropriate... :)

First of all, I love the sprite - Great cartoony style, that would work great in-game. :)

Did a minor paintover though - Not too good, but perhaps it'll help... :)
Changed the hand, added an outfit.

Aye, I just agree with... Um... Everybody else, I suppose... :)
Look terrific! Heh, and cool to hear that I'm not the only one who's heard of Babayaga, either! (Heh, even wrote a song lyric about her, that never came to use... :D)

But good luck with the game - Hope we all get to play it soon!Ã,  Ã,

Hey, look like you had some loads of fun this year as well... :D
Damn, I regret I couldn't be there... Oh well, can't win them all. Or any of them, come to think of it.

Hehe, but no picture of m0ds and a plate of milk this year?

Just to even things out a bit, on the political side, here's Helm, getting ready to bash John Kerry with his brand new pogo stick. (I mean, that's what politics is about, really, isn't it? Right?)

Did someone mention... Terranigma? :D Joy!
One of my favourite games ever... Looking forward to this very, very much! :)
#251
Hey, Flip, does this mean no restrictions when it comes to coulour/size/res, etc?
#252
Heh, well, for a starter, you might try and show us your efforts in re-drawing this picture. No offense, but I think it will be alot easier if we can actually see what you have acheived so far... :)

I think my latest book was "Monstrous Regiment" by Terry Pratchett - It was definately top-notch, among his very best, I'd say. (Which for me includes basically every single book he's written, but still...) I loved how the tiny twists in the plot was revealed all the time, bit by bit... :)

Currently trying to get through "The Wee Free Men", but I haven't had any time to read at all, sadly...
#254
Yeah, played for a while now, and it's another great game from Yahtzee, no doubt about it. A wee bit predictable, perhaps, but very good none the less... :)
I also agree about the interface, it's tons better than 5DaS...
#255
Yay... Just downloaded it... I'll return with my opinion... :)
#256
Heyhey, this looks really cool - I loved "Razors In The Night" so something tells me I'll like this one as well... ;) Good luck with it!

And I do hope you have the common sense to include some Dead Kennedys in the soundtrack? Eh? Hehe...Ã,
#257
Oh, yay- Listmaking!

- Halloween
The original is probably my favourite horror movie ever. I don't know why, but it is one of the few films that actually keeps scaring me every time I see it. The music is top notch, and the simplicity of effects desn't bring it down to a cheesy b-film status, but instead increases the scare, in my opinion...

- Psycho
I could watch this one just for the soundtrack. I got more scared by the title-sequence than I get out of most other horror movies on the whole.

- TCM
Yeah, it's on my list as well. I really like films that concentrate on showing us less gore and more suspense. In other words: It gave me a good scare. :)

- Night of the Living Dead
My favourite in the "Dead"-triology, and not only because it is b/w...
"Dawn" and "Day" was just as scary, ("Day" perhaps the most unsettling and apocalyptic of them all, methinks...) but the original just has that little extra...

- Evil Dead
Just plain ol' scary enough to scare the shit out of me...
A good combination of extreme gore and suspense.

Ah, yeah, that's correct -Ã,  I do use "What U Hear" on my own computer, but on other occasions, while using "Line-In" or Microphone", the effect has still been the same...
But I think we'll try to fiddle around with the volume settings anyway... You never know...
#259
Yep, that's what we've been doing most of all - Under "Settings" and then "Multitrack" there's a lot of options, so we figured it might be something there, but so far no result...

#260
Hey and hello, everybody - I thought I might post here to hear if someone could be of any help with a small problem that me and a buddy have had with CoolEdit Pro (V. 1.2a, if that is of any use) while recording some various musical stuff. I figured there are plenty o' talented musicians here on the boards that might know something... :)

To the point: When you usually record on the multitrack, you can have the benefit of hearing your previously recorded tracks in the background while recording the new one - I.e: What you usually do while dubbing over vocals, another guitar, drums or whatever. Nothing odd there.Ã,

Now, the trouble is that recently while recording, the program has gotten the annoying habit of recording not only the new one, but it also records the previous tracks again, which of course sound rather bad and crappy. In other words, if I just press the record button, and I don't play anything, (Assuming I've got a synth, mic or something on my line-in) it still records the sound of the other tracks on the new track, instead of just being silent.
Now I know it shouldn't do that, since it's worked fine before. I assume it's some setting in the program that's gone bad, but I'll be damned if I can find out what it is... Been trying for months now to fix it, but to no avail.
Muting the old tracks of course works, but then you obviously can't hear the stuff you're supposed to be dubbing over... (We tried doing a record with this method, but it was the most un-tight crap you'll ever hear...)

So, any ideas, just anything that could be of any help is appreciated...

Help me, AGS community, you're my only hope!
