My suggestion for a Sierra game would be Gabriel Knight 1, without a doubt.

Never saw the cartoon, but loved both the Phantom and Mandrake comics when I was younger. Especially Mandrake is an extremely underrated superhero, methinks. And quite possibly one of the most stylish. Cape, hat, costume and pencil-thin moustache, now that's how you fight evil with class.

Yeah, I didn't think so either. I mean...he has a tail, right? I don't remember Guybrush having a tale!

Like Arjon said, I figured it was his sword, not a tail, and I assumed the tutu was a reference to him wearing a dress for the costume party in MI2...
But you could be right, it was just a guess.

Just from the top of my head:

"The Day Today" & "Brass Eye"
- Truly brilliant and utterly hilarious media/television satire shows by genious Chris Morris.
"The Day Today" spoofs the absurdisms of TV news reporting, and "Brass Eye" focuses more on documentary-styled current affairs programs and how they deal with moral panic concering topics like crime, sex, science and most notoriously, pedophilia.

"QI"(Quite Interesting)
- Probably the only really, truly entertaining panel/comedy quiz show ever.
Led by the almighty Stephen Fry and filled with interesting, nerdy and quite often extremely funny knowledge.

"Charlie Brookers Screenwipe"
- British TV journalist Charlie Brookers spews out his biting, acidic, but also gut-wrenchingly funny views on both current and old television, filled with raging cynism and humour, but also moments of genuine heartfelt tribute to some true TV gems.

"Homicide: Life on the Street"
- My personal favorite when it comes to cop shows.
The show was co-created by author/journalist David Simon, and based on his brilliant book "Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets", documenting a year with the Baltimore homicide unit in 1988.
The book later also laid the ground for his show "The Wire", which you've already mentioned. Now, I haven't watched "The Wire", so I can't really compare them to each other, but there is no doubt that "Homicide" is one of the finest and most realistic cop shows of its time, with more focus on showing the mundanity of real police work than fast-paced action.
It has colourful characters, good humour, great storylines and a gritty, shaky, almost documentary feel to it, at least in the early seasons. The show did drop in quality around season 6-7, but the first three seasons are nothing short of TV drama brilliance.
(Also, it had one of the most haunting and just hands down perfect opening sequences ever)

Hm... Ian McCulloch-ish and piano... Could be something by Devotcha, perhaps?
Always thought their lead singers voice had a bit of Echo & the Bunnymen in it.

Agreed, this looks absolutely awesome - Sci-fi and film noir? Parallel storylines? Count me in!
And the music teaser does indeed sound very Vangelis/Blade Runner-ish, but I love that, and the tune sounds great, so I couldn't be more excited about this! Really looking forward to the finished game! :)

Well, it just didn't do it for me all the way. "Precious" might have been Depeche trying to do another "Enjoy the silence", but I thought it worked quite well at that. I'm not saying "Wrong" is bad, I just feel it's a bit below average. Maybe it'll grow on me, but so far it still hasn't caught me the way alot of their other stuff has done. Oh well. A matter of taste, I suppose. Still have high hopes for the rest of the album, anyhow.

Well, I do like Depeche Mode quite alot, and judging by the description of their new album(phrases like "retro-futuristic tendencies" in press releases always gets me excited) and the small videoclips they've posted on their site, I think it might be quite good. Still, I'm not overtly excited by "Wrong", however. One of their weakest singles in a long time, I'd say. Hopefully it won't be a terrible snorefest like the rather dull and horrible "Exciter".

Ali: Ah, yeah, that sounds probable... A rather shady-looking site on the whole, but the DWN-patch-thingie did work fine and without problems for me, anyway. I took the liberty of uploading a zip-file with the corrected .exe I use myself here, I hope that will work for you.
#51
Sure, I've gotten it to run on both XP and Vista, albeit with some slight trickery.
Apparently the "TIN3_DXD.exe"-file has some sort of copy protection thing that clashes with XP, so you need to do a full install of the game and then download a patched/fixed .exe and replace the original one. You should be able to fix it with the files and the instructions from this site: http://m0001.gamecopyworld.com/games/pc_discworld_noir.shtml

Sadly, this doesn't fix a bug which crashes the game if you try to load a saved game from the main menu, so you'll have to start a new game every time and skip through the intro and then load a game if you want to avoid that.

Damn, now I got a craving to replay it myself... Heh.

Ah, great to hear that you liked it. :) And as I said, if you do get the chance to catch him perform live, do so. You have no idea how entertaining a tall, blonde geek dancing away behind a gameboy can be until you witness it in real life.

Another tip that you might enjoy is Cornbeast: http://www.myspace.com/cornbeast
I don't think he's quite as good as Covox, but the style is similar, and he's also pretty awesome live as well.

One of my personal favourites when it comes to bitpop/chip-related music is without a doubt Covox. More Gameboy-related than C64, but great tunes none the less, and simply awesome live.

That was indeed fun, albeit a bit limited, as already pointed out. I really miss the possibility of using mice and spiders.

I think that you need to view this, Terran.
Or to quote Mr Bill Bailey himself: "It encompasses all aspects of love: Betrayal, hatred and depression."
Always worked for me when I've felt a bit bitter about females.
Hope everything works out, anyhow!

Vinyl is life, and that's just the way it is.
Most of it is in the boxes, but some of the favourites are used to decorate the walls as well.

Well, if Chicky can post moving images, so can I: Here's the brand new music video for the song "Ether Halo" by our band Ingnis (http://www.myspace.com/ingnis), in all of its black-and-white, pretentious, pseudo-expressionistic, cliché-ridden industrial complex glory!

And just as in Chickys case, I'm the singer!  :=

If you absolutely have to cosplay, do it adventure game style.

I did that once. Kids today can't appreciate it. I mean, I was the BESTEST Malcolm ever, and do you think they recognised me?

Awesome indeed. You should have brought someone to pose as the Hand as well.

Wow, this was truly a nice surprise - I agree with Snarky somewhat on the Oz-setting, but heck, who am I to complain? This does indeed look awesome. And, as always, I'm hooked from the very mentioning of film noir. :) Great work, Dave, I'm really looking forward to playing this!

While on the topic: It seems as if there's been a lot of Noir-ish-ness in quite a few up-and-coming adventure games recently...
Three Cards to Midnight and Face Noir: The Cat with Jade Eyes springs to mind... I got a very Grim Fandango-ish vibe from the site of the latter, anyways.
