Critics' Lounge / Woop - New character...
Thu 11/12/2003 20:02:57
Well, I haven't been doing a lot of characters for my upcoming game yet - It's mostly been bg's, but today I sat down and did some work on one of the more important characters in the game.

I based this sprite on another one I did a while ago, (The "devil woman" one, if anyone remembers...) and I think I've been able to make it a bit better this time.
Still, I'm not genious when it comes to bodies/proportions, so any critisism/comments is as always welcome!

Well, I don't visit that many sites on a regular basis, but here are some:

http://www.helgon.net/ - Swedish community for heavy metal/punk/synth/goth-people and others.
http://www.swemonkey.com - Another swedish site, but this one is about Monkey Island, no less!
http://www.ubl.com/ - Every single bloody artist you might want to find. Well, almost...
http://www.elfwood.com/ - Fantasy/Sci-artists, unite! Aye!
http://www.darklyrics.com/ - Lots and lots of lyrics to great metal bands...

I won't mention the AGS website, since that is pretty much says itself...

Bloody hell - You all know what that means, don't you?
AGA is a clone from outer space. They place these cylinders around the whole world, with little mini-AGA's inside, just waiting patiently, so that they can come out and rule the world one day! Aye!

...What?

We also found AGA's HQ during Mittens 2003 in Sweden, sadly we only passed it once and didn't get a photo of it.

Hm, it didn't happen to be something like this, did it?

Heh, they even sell AGS members on kegs nowadays... Where is the world coming to, I ask you... :)

Weela - Happy birthday, Sasha! Welcome to the wonderful world of being 16... :) Har, har...

I was going to say that it was my SNES - Which I got around the time when it was on the peak of it's popularity, but then I remembered how I, when I was really young, used to play at my older brothers Commodore C64. He had a whole bunch of games, but the one that I probably played first of them all and enjoyed the most as well was "Live And let Die", a James Bond boat-racing game that I will always love not only because the game itself, but also for that incredibly cool sound effect when you picked up a fuel tank... It was some sort of odd c64:ed version of the James Bond Theme, I'd reckon, but to me it just sounded like "Bah-da-daa"... Aah...

And there was another game as well, which was quite fun - It was a simple platformer,  where you walked around as tiny man in some sort of maze, where there were several obsacles or enemies, which you of course died by touching...
Still, that wasn't what I remember most from it. The thing I memorized more than anything else was that horrible, monotonous music... It was like nothing else you've heard... I can't really describe it in words, you'd have to hear it to understand...
The worst thing is that I can't remember what the heck the name of the game was... Man, I really need to play it again...

Ah, I love nostalgia... :) I still haven't quite forgotten him for giving away the C64, though... Dang...

Aye, happy birthday, Scummy! And all my best wishes to the two of you! :)

Yep... Me - Opeth kicks serious ass, indeed... I've been longing to check up on My Dying Bride for a long time, but so far I haven't had the opportunity to... Heh, but if you wanna discuss metal, you can PM me so that we won't clutter up the thread... :)

Hmmm, I'd say our style comes pretty close to Six Feet Under and Cannibal Corpse... Yeah.

Finished up our first song today. It's all wrapped up except for the vocals, which will be recorded during the next few days. I'm not sure will I be able to post the song here before the end of this year though, as the song will be released on a certain... thing I'm not allowed to talk about :)

I can give a link to the song in private to those who are interested though.

Ok, I figured as much... Hehe... I'm really more into the melodic, thrashy, At The Gates/Entombed/Dismember-Death Metal, myself, but Cannibal Corpse is fine as well... :) I'd love to hear it, so just drop me a pm...

Eggie:
Death is more of deeper, lower growls, like if you cross-breeded some grizzly bear with a pneumatic drill or something.

Black is usually more high-pitched and schreechy.
Both does sound like vomiting sometimes, though, yes... :)

Yeah, this is really nice stuff - I don't know what your new way of painting adventure-ish is, but I do like the look of it... As Petteri said, it's a bit similar to the first Gabriel Knight game, and that is always good in my opinion...

Judging by the title of your post I'd make a guess that this is supposed to be hell, no?  :)

And, well, I really can't find anything to complain about here. Great job!
#451
Ah, well... I'll just cough a bit there as well...
In other words: Yes - I'd love to hear it! :)
I assume judging by the make-up that you are doing some sort of Gore-ish Cannibal Corpse/Repulsion-style, but I'll ask anyway: What kind of Death Metal is it?

Oh, and the artwork is great as well! It reminded me of the old Eastman/Laird Turtle Comics, to be honest. A bit gross, but cool all the same... Hehe...

Ok, this is not the most detailed or good-looking shield, but it's probabaly the most evil one so far... In fact, it's probably more evil than Alistair Crowley on a rainy monday... So just beware...

Hm, I just got some pictures that a buddy of mine took, so i thought I'd take the time of posting some of the least humiliating ones...

Yes. That is me. In a Clockwork Orange t-shirt. With old sunglasses. And no, that is not Dave Wyndorf witout the moustache.

Now, beware, because this is probably one of the ugliest(and funniest...) god damn pictures ever taken. Don't ask me why we did those poses, or for that matter, why the hell I did the mistake of ever posting it here... You may look, laugh, point fingers, manipulate or use in photoshop phridays. Wee.
I'm the most stupid-looking one, of course.

Well, smack me up and call me Charlie, I thought I'd contribute to this thread too - Here's a hearty 'ol screenshot:

Now, notice how I took my background from the Bigelf homepage - One of the coolest bands around today, and yes - I have seen them live! They kicked some serious spam, if I may say so. Too bad they haven't gotten any attention in the states.

Wee - May your anniversary be happy, indeed! The best of wishes and all other stuff that comes with it...

Aye, Steve is right, I wasn't trying to accuse you of stealing backgrounds or ripping stuff - I can guarantee you that I am not!
I'm sorry if I offended you in some way, it was definitely not my meaning - All I wanted to say was that it kicked serious butt, and that it was really close to the orginal MI-style, which is great.

So, no worries, eh?

Dude, I don't know if it's legal to make backgrounds that are as close to the MI-style as this one... It's just totally spot on...

Now since I'm not nearly as talented as the rest of you, I can only say that the roof in the foreground is the thing that bothers me - It just feels as if it takes up to much of the screen, imo.  But other than that I haven't got anything to complain about. Great stuff!

Hehe, yep, so do I... :D
I like the changes you've done to the slab - I have already done something similar to it, but I think I know how to improve it even more now.
The table isn't supposed to be used for autopsies, but a lenghtening like that is a good idea anyway - I'll do a bit of editing there as well...

Dig the thermometer too - I'll definitely add one! :)

Thanks for the comments, man! Appreciate it!

Aye, I get exactly what you mean - I realized that a short while after posting it... Oh well. I'll see if I can correct the perspective issues, but I really don't think I'll scrap the whole thing - I'm really pleased with the rest of it... But thanks a lot for your comments, none the less!

Hey, this looks really, really cool - I get a creepy vibe just by looking at those screenshots... Hehe... Good luck with it, man - I'm looking forward to playing it!

I also dig the greyscale style, btw. It reminds of Film Noir, and Film Noir is good. Ayup.
