General Discussion / Re:State of the Boards
Sat 14/06/2003 10:05:54
Oh, I recognize this all too much...
I used to be frequent visitor of a swedish James Bond-forum for a long time, and both posting and reading posts was a joy.  I got lots of friends there, and I even met some of them in real life.
But recently my interest in those wonderful movies started to fade, and I saw other things in life. I didn't visit the forums that much anymore, except for the odd discussion about how bad the forums had turned out... And as the community started to grow, I also felt that everything had been discussed over and over again... It wasn't as fun talking about "Who is the best Bond-villain ever?" as it had been when I was twelve.
I still go there sometimes, and I might be seen as an "oldbie" there, but I am nowhere as active as I used to be.

Now I've discovered AGS in all its beauty, and since I'm quite new, everything still is fun - But I don't doubt that one day my interest in these forums will fade too...

Oh, now I'm all depressed. Great.
Let's just finish saying that I hope that it will take a very long time before I grow tired of this wonderful community and its games... ;D

Hobbes:
Ok, all right...
I did have the floppy version before I bought the cd version, and I did experience a save/load problem with that version, but I solved with a patch.

Argh, I have a feeling that this isn't going to work too well...  I can only set my screen resolution to as low as 800x600.

GG:
Yeah, maybe so. It wouldn't surprise me...
I haven't got any other Sierra-game from that period, though. I'll see if I can get it to work if I install it DOS.
#744
Yikes! With that story and that graphic style, you can't go wrong! Excellent! Keep up the good work!

EDIT:
Hehe, just noticed that the game interface looks like a sort of mix between Pokemon and Deja Vu... (In a very positive sense...) I knew it reminded me of something... ;D

You think that turning all the music & sound off might help? I'll try and see if it works.

I'm running it in windows, but it'd the same result when I run it in Dos.
#746
Hm... Nope, not working. I changed the settings for the "sierra.exe"-file, so that it runs in 256 colours and in 640x480, but all that I get is the intro with the Sierra Logo, some music, and then the game crashes if you press any button or click... Suspicious... Maybe time to start looking for patches?

GarageGothic:
I haven't tried that, but I suspected that the sound might have something to do with it, since I get an error message saying "Cannot find sound driver - Please reinstall" or something similar.

Hobbes:
Yep, I mean the full CD-version. (I also noticed that the tests makes it crash, so I try to avoid them...)

Ok, I'll try fiddling around with my settings and see if it works.

And I might just as well download VDMS as well, AGA - just in case... ;D

General Discussion / Gabriel Knight 1 in XP...

I've been trying for some time now to run GK1 in winXP, but appearently it is doomed to fail. Argh... I can install it, if you do it in dos, but when you try to start the game, the bloody thing crashes...
I'm sure I've read about this problem somewhere, but I can't recall where... Anyone got any clues on how to make it work?

#749
Yep, GarageGothic pretty much has it there. Pleurghburg: Dark Ages, The Uncertainty Machine have a exciting, GK/Broken Sword-feeling to them, and Odysseus Kent, Night Of The Hermit and Larry Vales 2 are the comedy favourites.

And I'm pretty sure that Byzantine will add to that list when it's finished... God, I'm looking forward to that game! *pokes at DarkStalkey* ;D

Woohoo, Squinky! I downloaded and finished DS4  a couple of days ago, and it's great!
Now I've got to play the first three too... ;D
Keep it up, and make sure you finish Pirate Fry 2... Ahem...
#751
Wow, that sounds like a really cool concept.
Now I wanna see some screens, damnit... ;D
#752
Hehe, love that picture, Ghormak! ;D Great work!

Don't ask me how I though of this little surreal thingie... It just happened...

Ah, nice to see a fan of Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X! (The OVA's are so good I almost can't describe it... ;) )

The sprite looks really good, colourful and overall very nice.
The second one is the source of inspiration, right? (Looks like it's straight from the OVA, just like Slamgrinder said.)

Btw, I found this at a Samurai X homepage:

Agreeing totally with Hobbes here. I Love all of the GK-games.
I have nothing against the GK1 interface, and didn't have any problems with it at all.

The Talk/Question option is great in my opinion, as it adds to the realism in the game - Instead of just going around questioning everyone you find in the game, you can also just chit-chat with people if you feel like it. (As in real life)
(Although what GG says about the talk option depending on whether you need to interrogate the person or not is a great idea. I'd go for that if I was you.)

The many actions(Push, open, interact, pick up, etc...) is also a nice touch imo, since it demands more of the player, and thus makes it a bit more interesting to play.

Really? Superb, man! Looking forward to them.

Ok, the main theme is now done(By N3TGraph) if you want a listen.

Still looking for someone to do some more tunes, though.
Instant message me if you are interested.

Yahoogah! - That was one great intro! ;D
Looks like this could be a really cool part in the RON-series! Good luck!

Yeah, I suppose that is true. It sounds more like he's beating on some oil-barrels, instead of that fat, thrashy, drumbeat we're used to...
