The main purpose is to have fun, so if you make a game around the requirements, in whatever way you want, it is ok.

Q2: It depends on your game, and what you need.
Q3: No, the way you do it, is the right one
Q4: If its fun to play, and you get the most player-votes you win.Ã,  :)

Thanks,  :D im very happy about winning this competition.
Also thanks to Spb, Van_Wolter and Petteri, i guess all games this month are able to win, and worth to be played.
I also like the "Biwa of Blood" very much, cause this style gives an special atmosphere to the game, i will try this kind of style next time.

The rules for May:
I dont want to post it right away, but the most important thing about the rules would be,
to make an open source game, i hope this is compatible with the competition assignement.
I guess it is specially for noobs, very helpfull to see, how other game-creators have solved some things, and can learn from it.
This was my first AGS-Game, and I have learned a lot from the Open source game Exile and the Demo  Quest.
So I also give away the complete Source files from Airbreak.
Downloadable on the Game site.
If somebody dont want to give away the artwork and music files, its enough when the gamecode is open source.
The main-Theme would be - ROBBERY - in any kind you like   8)
ok, now its nothing much more, so i Post the complete rules right away, hopefully klaus wouldnt kill me:

AGS-CODE must be open source.
THEME: ROBBERY ( could be all you can imagine from insurance cheating to a Planned Bank Robbery or a house break-in)

Pich at least two items from the list above, and include it somehow in your game:

lockpick
blueprint
night vision device
safe
alarm device
mask
black cape
headset
flame cutter
welding aparatus
gloves
watchmann

no other restrictions

I purchased an Ibanez in December.
This is my first Guitar with this kind of Whammy system, and I like it and use it intensive.
Specially the possibility to sound like a slide guitar is very cool.

@jane: for sure, in my next game the puzzles are more and a bit harder,
i dont like puzzles, they are only solveable with trial and error or not logical, so the always a little bit easier then in some other games.

@tootsie69: Im not sure if i should work further on this game, maybe cause my plans in the beginning were to make a few more interactions with music-lessons, like rhythm train and jamming.

@minimi:  I know that this kind of Ear-training is to heavy, even for musicians i guess, but i never had in mind to let the player stuck, if he doesnt receive good results in this actions.
But at the beginning i had planed to split this exercise and to add a few more, like i describe above, trace the results and decide depending on that, if you get the Job or not, with maybe different endings.
But one month gives not much room for great jumps ;).

So great thank you all, for your really, really outstanding awesome critics.
Never expected this -  :o

I had it aimed in little pieces, but run out of time to split it up.
But maybe i work further on the game and make all the things i planned in the beginning, but then i need for sure at least another month.  :)

That doesnt works, you send me an *.doc which AGS cant read, so i convert it to an txt, and when I try to import it, i get this error message:

There was a problem with the translation file. The number of un-commented lines was not even. Something has been messed up.

So I have to copy and paste it manually, which is no problem, if the file is complete, then i take 2 hours and make this work, but in this case with half of the text is corrected half not,
I must make this work once again if i got the other half of the corrected text.
And i need the full text corrected, cause i want to work further on this game.
So If you want, I would be pleased if you make the full correction, and i import it when you have done it, without timepressure, or you dont want, and i try to ask another one to help me.
But I dont want a game which is half done.

This were the hardest 2 weeks of my life so far, and i could not implement even half of the ideas, but i guess this is not unusal.
So here it is: van K. Airbreak



Hopefully its understandable cause i finished the text yesterday (in fact today), and so was not enough time to correct and control the whole text grammar.
Thanks to Scuth who has try to do it.

EDIT: Sorry I found an bug and repair it, now a better functioning version is downloadable.
If someone have the first version:
The bug was in the first screen, if you try to go in the building without solving the puzzle with the parking-meter, the charakter stucks. So dont try this if you havent paid the parking-meter or download the hopefully buggyfree new version, again.

i used 800x600 with 32 bit so its rather huge with 13,6Mb filesize.
But it contains 1 complete song, and a few soundfragments.
So i guess its worth downloading it.
The plot: The player want to be the new funk-guitar player, at the band from maestro
Francesco van K. Airbreak, so he had to step through the musicschool, improve your music-ability
to finally get on stage with The Maestro himself

hi all,

i partizipate in this months ags contest, and made a game in englisch, with my possibility
of knowing the language, cause im from austria, but i want that the spelling is correct.
So i need badly a lovely soul, ideally a native englischspeaker, who read my translation file and correct the grammar.
I can offer making the same for you in german.
and be in the credit-section of the game.
hopefully this is enough and someone could have mercy.
I need it tomorrow evening, when i was to release my game.
i guess its about 1 hour of tracing.

Advanced Technical Forum / Problem - BUG?

I have some action, where i wanted the player only to watch for this reason.
Initally this action start with an inventory is used on a hotspot.
then the action is running, and i place this code after:

DisableCursorMode(0);
DisableCursorMode(1);
DisableCursorMode(2);
DisableCursorMode(3);
SetMouseCursor(6);

Now i have the the pointer, but if im klicking on a hotspot i get the inventory item i used before and the playercharacter reacts on this, which is not good.
so im inserting:

SetActiveInventory(-1);

but then the game chrashes and i get this error-message if i klick on a hotspot with the pointer.

(ACI version 2.61.730)

yes, but i want an single vox file, instead of 30 different musicfiles in the game- directory. how can i get this?

I have about 30 different music files in my game directory and they are all working fine, midis und mp3s.
but i dont know how to make this vox file, if i click on rebuild vox files nothing visible happens.

EDIT: i now uses the GetRawTimer function
thanks ashen, but i have an unexpected behavoir here.

I have the code for this in the dialog reqest like this:

that means that when the timer starts, it depends on the player input when it stops,
the funny thing is i get no milliseconds,
it seems rather that this are seconds.
I havent clock exactly, but the value what i get is about seconds.
have someone an explanation for that?

im also working hardly on finishing my game, so i havent time now to play yours.
it looks very funny from my first impression.
But i need a little help, with control and correcting my text.
Cause im not so well suited with the english grammar.
maybe a native englisch speaker, who is not involved in making games for the competition this month would be fine.
I guess i can finish the lyrics tomorrow.
