General Discussion / Re: C# anyone?

YLGM: C# is a new programming language, designed to take the best bits of Java and C++ and combine them into something more elegant and easy to use.
although these java-guys try to convince c#-programmers by using some c#-specific stuff in the new jdk 1.5. .NET vs. sun ;)
c++ is still faster than c#

why don't you use an arraylist instead of dumb, lame arrays???

ArrayList ar=new ArrayList();
ar.Add(new Piece...blablabla

alice is a nice game with excellent level-design but i somehow miss some kind of deeper story that i was expecting after the first hours. anyway, for me it was one of the best action-games because of the bunch of good ideas for instance implemented in the chess/gearwheel-levels

but carroll's original text of it is of course still better (and - if you have a look at the pictures - also somehow handling with a nightmare) than the game, which could have been better in several points.

General Discussion / Re: Euro 2004
Thu 10/06/2004 16:33:54
austria will defeat all teams! hmm...wait...no skiing-competition?

then: all my love and support goes to spain!
in this euro is no evil cheating south korea available, sooooo...spainspainspain!
and if spain fails (but this is - of course - impossible!) all my love and support goes to every other team except germany and france.

pretty easy, huh?

General Discussion / Re: GCSEs, Hell on earth

i'm one of these "matura"-guys too.
if you don't want to fail do the absolute opposit of what i did for my written exams:
learn more than a (10 hour, no brakes) day and some toilet/bus-sessions for them.

surprinsingly my marks were good, but i had to improvise a lot...

hmmm...serious tip: learn on the toilet! :D no kidding, that's great, because
1) you can't escape
2) nothing distracts you
3) if you lock the door no one can disturb you

and learning in busses is also cool! if no one disturbs you...of course...

aldi is a german shop where you can usually buy stuff very cheap, which makes the founders of aldi to one of the richest german men. here in austria we also have aldis. but we call the hofer because we're much more clever then the dumb germans. ;)

x and y are switched because we need (obviously the best language in the world!) the 'z' more often than the 'y' (or vice versa? hmmmm...)

see the positive aspects of it: now you can easily use all these ö,ä,ü and àŸs! ;)

General Discussion / 3dfx
Tue 01/06/2004 21:39:20
sooooo...here it is the 3dfx-dicussion...does anybody own 3dfx-graphic-cards or has 3dfx-tales he wants to share with us?

here is my 3d(fx)-gamer-story which made me to a truly fan of this awesome company:
i received my first 3d-graphics-card (a voodoo5 5500) in june 2000 (6 months before they got assimilated by evilllllll nvidia) and the very first game i started was ultima 9 where i thought something like "oh! no! my computer crashed! the intro stopped!" till it took me around 30 seconds to realize that this were game graphics. uh...this was quite a shock for me. a positive one. i think that's the usual business when you're used to "monkey island 1" vga-graphics... ;) ultima 9 in glide. and then this 3dfx-logo every time when you start a game in glide. and so it was something like "3dfx? love! love! love!".

and then i discovered all this neat features of my voodoo5. 4xfull-scene-antialising. which lead to an incredbile image quality. and so my affection to 3dfx changed from an one-night-stand to "3dfx? even more love!".

and then i discovered this quake3-demo. running in 640x480 with 4xfsaa. in glide + depth of field. wooooooooohhhhhaaaaaa. sooooo cooolll.

but this company full of creative insane (who else would dare producing monsters like a voodoo5 6000 or voodoo2-sli???) people came down to earth. this nvidia-guys with their clever marketing campaigns bought this small familiar company. oh...well...the world is so unfair.

soooo....who else owns or owned a 3dfx-card? huh?

oh...and...here...is something for you:
an awesome 3dfx-spot: http://www.voodooalert.de/files/movies/violent.mpg (size ~3 mb)

i think that online point-and-click-adventures can't work. more than one player playing in one adventure would be much too chaotic (e.g. different inventories -> player a owns item b, which player c needs to combine with item d, but he can't because player a won't give item b to him) and hard to implement.

but i read about commercial online-only adventure-detective game, where players give hints to each other for solving a murder or something like that.

some time ago i tried some very basic functions of sdl with visual studio and c++ and made a small (buggy) game called "catch the pig" out of it.

the - very bad - result of it can be found here (if there's anybody interested ;) )
http://members.aon.at/affengottsekte/CtP/CtPv0.1e.rar

note: my knowledge of c++ is...hmm...limited because of the fact that i never really programmed in c++ and so had to improvise at some parts of the sourcecode, which makes him really really...oh, well...indescribable. yes. indescribable. and this leads to the inexact "collision control"...

runaway 1 had awesome graphics too, but in my opinion it was too easy and too short.
anyway...forthcoming 2d point-and-click-adventures (runaway 2 is one, right?) is always good news for me.

Yeah, and let me congratulate you, you have a blaster virus. W32/Agobot-S, I guess. Ever wondered what's this scvhost.exe means in your tasks? or tried to close damned thing?
hahahaha! there are no evil viruses (except windows xp) on my computer!!!

btw:
jdeveloper got the first place and passed oracle!!! leading with 131.000k! incredible!

i'm using visual studio .net 2003 for such stuff, but...hmmm...wait!....a cheap not-piracy-c++-compiler can be found at www.borland.com...but....oh...you're writing something about borland-crap...hmmm...okay...dunno - i'm satisfied with my visual studio...sorry

9 hours. without a break.
but of course you are allowed to eat, drink and visit the toilets.

you'll get a task and you have nine hours time to finish it.
great fun!

in fact: one half of us is programming in c# and the other half of the class has to programm in java (different tasks).
the funny thing of it: c# is much easier and less complicative than this java-stuff and the c#-guys are allowed to use the internet while we aren't allowed to use it.

in fact something like that will happen:
1. read the task
2. understand nothing -> suicide thoughts
3. read it AGAIN
4. start jdeveloper and ask stupid questions
5. read the task a third time
6. start programming by let jdeveloper generate a lot of stuff
7. hope that everything works
8. program a web-based client of something
9. some sort of problems will ocur -> swearing
10. hopefully finish the web-based client after 4 hours (that's optimism!)
11. start with the swing-client and swearing
12. finish all the stuff after 9 hours
13. go insane
14. try to find home
15. go to bed
16. start to learn for project-development on next day (8 hours without a break, drawing diagrams and write, write and write on monday)
17. after project-development-exams on monday i'll start learning for next exams on tuesday
18. tuesday: 9 hours time - two tasks on two different subjects (you can choose what you'll do first)
19. tuesday evening: being drunken.
20. wednesday morning: go to scho....hmm...nooo...sleeeeeepppppinnnnngggg

btw: today we had database-stuff - 8 hours long with a theoretical and a practical (do stuff on the computer)-part

and now i'll have a closer look to java. i should...

4 of our 8 written final exams are done, but tomorrow we'll be confronted with something incredible thrilling:

9 hours programming. in java. with jdeveloper. suicide thoughts. a lot of swearing. a bunch of frustration. and insanity. great. great.

i only hope that i don't have to bang against my computer several times for stop it being noisy. oh, anyway. tomorrow will be really cool. if i'd stay at home...

ohhhh...and here...special feature...wuhaaa...windows task manager...
jdeveloper gets beaten by oracle! haahahahah!

right now i'm visiting a school where i gain quite wide knowledge about programming/project management/run-your-own-business-stuff

although i'm very talented in programming (always this glorification...) i'm not really interested in the sort of stuff we program now and then we'll have this ugly 9 hour programming-examination on saturday...wah...i really hate it. totally.

let me be producer and everything would be cool. calming yourself down while everything around you goes wrong while there is a bunch of work, which needs to be done in a very very short time period. i think that's cool. or just author (books). or both.

hmmm...or let's go the easiest way: let me be millionare. i think that's the job i like most.

verrry well, mr

i think that's possibly the most useless knowledge you can own... ;)

till now i played two (!) ags games:
beyond reality and 5 days a stranger but i finished none of them.

it's in german and you probably won't understand but the drawings are really cooool.

that reminds me. yeah! i'm in my final exams right now! but i don't have troubles...not yet.... ;)

Staplerfahrer Klaus means Forklift Driver Klaus, right?
exactly.
when you're in a school where around 80 % of your classmates own a laptop with a lot of crap on it you'll come across to happy tree friends, staplerfahrer klaus and a lot more things...

using violence against violence will never work. people will never understand that, because they're all much too dumb and selfish.
