I promise more interviews, one being a really secret one and perhaps the most awesome.
But.. But, I haven't gotten a PM yet? When are we starting this interview?

Which basically means if you want to connect to a server that has the completed release server package, you won't be able to connect because you'd still be running the beta game. Forcing you to buy the completed game.
Big money grab.

The thing that you may be referring to is the tearing effect. Simply set System.VSync to true.
Although I don't notice a difference between this being on or off. It only works with DirectDraw and I believe only in fullscreen mode.

Other than that, AGS doesn't have any quick fix options to fix the jumping you see when the viewport is moving.

A friend of mine introduced me to this little flash game called Evacuation. Very simple concept, yet it gets quite challenging.

Nothing as easy as just checking a box somewhere because it isn't a feature within AGS. But there is always Ali's smooth scrolling module.
I believe all you have to do is import the script files into your game and you're pretty much set.

'Frames' went out in the late 90's..
And BMP images on webpages died a lot earlier (or was NEVER used). Leaves me wondering why you have a BMP avatar; which by the way is half a MB.

And yeah, lose the frames.
It also kinda bugs me that you have the lined paper as the background image, but the text doesn't line up properly. It looks more like a recipe than anything else when it's on lined paper.

Well unfortunately, Notch put the game into Beta and is now charging â,¬14.95. He also decided to make it so that any update that occurs during Beta, you will receive, but once the game is considered "complete" you'll have to pay the full â,¬20 just to get a few extra features the Beta didn't have.

It's definitely not a good business practice considering everyone who bought the game while it was in Alpha will receive ALL updates even once it reaches a completed status.

He's just being greedy and knowing that he has built quite a large fan base when it was in an Alpha state, that people will more than likely pay both fees twice. I on the other hand would not and would avoid buying the game while it's in the Beta state until it's complete.

That's like Vince asking for pre-purchase donations for Resonance and then not giving the game to those who pre-purchased, making them pay again. Obviously this isn't what Vince is doing (I hope.. hehe), but it's pretty much what Notch is doing. Only difference is that you get to play the game before it reaches a completed status.

I thought I remembered seeing that Notch prevented the animals from spawning within a certain block distance from any crops.

I read this thread last night and had quite a time following what he wanted. So I'm curious with this, Khris:

GUI_ID*20 + Button_ID*2

I believe you meant to have  GUI_ID * 30  since 30 is the limit of controls per GUI not 20.
If for some reason I didn't follow this thread properly and I'm wrong, excuse this comment. :P

Hmm.. I'm pretty sure we don't have blue beer bottles here in Canada. hehe.  Perhaps just a clear bottle with a blue label. :P

On my splash screen I would definitely prefer a beer over a coffee cup. But screw the maple syrup, I never eat the stuff.  ;D

As the manual states:
Quotereadonly int Button.Graphic;
Gets the current image on a GUI button. If a value less than 1 is returned, then no image is currently displayed on the button.
That means Button.Graphic is readonly.

Under that it even clearly describes this by saying:
QuoteThis property is read-only; in order to set the image, you must use one of the NormalGraphic [..]
So to change the graphic of a button, you'll need to use Button.NormalGraphic

Not trying to be harsh. Just showing you how useful the manual can be if you actually read it.
Good luck.

Out of those two images, the white and black, I prefer the white. It's more suitable for AGS. But if AGS starts turning into a much beefier program with this open sourcing, I can see black being appropriate. The black looks more hardcore while the white looks friendlier.

Now if I were to criticize the overall splash graphic, I don't like the W shaped gradient in the background. It draws my eyes to it and makes me wonder why a W or imprints of buttocks are related to AGS. Perhaps keeping with the top of a circle like the center of the gradient shape is. It could also look like a table, and since there is a mug, I see no reason why the gradient may resemble a table.

And tea instead of coffee? Don't get me started..  :=

Overall it's quite nice.

the combined computational power needed to drive all the worlds was too much for the first world's computer system (which is driving it all) to keep up with so your world is crumbling.
I like the idea for that game Darth, but I started thinking about it at work today.

If there was a simulated universe running in a computer, if it were anything like this universe, it would obviously have to be computing right down to the molecular level. The system would have to calculate the path, the interaction, etc, whatever molecules and such do. So it really wouldn't matter if a planet was exploding or a sun constantly burning or a little daisy blowing on a hilltop, it would nearly be the same processing power per molecule.

Now if you had a 'computer' in this simulation, it wouldn't draw any extra power from the real world simulator since it's all based on the molecular level.

Also if the simulated universe is reduced in size or complexity, let's say for computing reasons, memory, etc. A simulated universe within that simulated universe could easily exceed their own reality; just as long as they have the ability to create it.

Or this one (sorta). Great comics btw, thanks for the link.

I'm kinda surprised that everyone seems so down on the idea (except Darth ^_^).
Heck no. There isn't a day that passes that I don't think of this theory at least once. I absolutely love it.

It's definitely more believable than any religion. But then one would argue that the creators of this simulated universe would be considered God. Meh.

Oh right... This is the thread that the requests should be in then. :P I'm deleting my post in the other thread and putting it here.

As it stands right now, AGS doesn't have an export/import feature for dialogs. It would be a very nice feature. Especially if AJA modified his dialog designer to match the output file you guys end up making for the export of dialogs from within AGS.

I think it would be a great feature.

I don't understand Gabriel's arguments at all, and I'm not even sure what Dualnames is saying.

Why is it hard to not understand that we, as possible virtual lifeforms living in a simulation, may being living in a universe equivalent to Minecraft as to our own. If you created a true AI that could freely roam around and fully interact with the cubed environment of Minecraft with his little cube arms. Even if gravity and physics and lighting was completely faked. It would probably take many generations of the AI's to learn that its own environment 'may' not be real.

The AI isn't born with intelligence, it must learn on its own. You can only learn from what you see and experiment with what's around you. You think you have an understanding of gravity but that's because it's part of this simulation and its physics. What if that was completely faked for this simulation we live in.

For a while we used to believe in witches and magical forces. We used to believe our world was flat. We didn't start putting the pieces together until very late into our development.

The lifeforms above us, the ones who created the simulation we are in, may be living in a universe that we couldn't even comprehend. That is, if we were really in a simulation. Are we?

I don't see this theory being all that difficult. Do I believe we're in a simulation? Hell no.

In fact. I'm looking at this a little stupid. Thinking of AI and such. If this was a simulation down to the molecular level, we could have been created by chance. If the building blocks are there in this simulation, I can't see how it isn't possible.

He is our Lord and Saviour. Stupid question.
Oh. So he doesn't exist?

Very confused.

Was this Jeesus person a complete random that asked to be white listed on the server or is he from the AGS forums?
