I imagine it's just like an OROW, where the rule of One Room isn't mandatory.  The OROW rules even state you can make a game with 2 or even 3 rooms or whatever, but the general rule is to stick with 1 room so that the game will actually be made.  I imagine that's exactly what Dual is attempting here.  A loose rule of 1 room, don't go overboard.

I've got one tiny yet great suggestion that I'd really love to have.
I don't use AGS's own editor for walkbehinds or walkable areas, mostly because it's very tedious.  The only time I really use it is if it's a quick demo build until I get the real graphics.

If you could add the Space Bar support that Photoshop uses, which is actually used to pan images.  It's such a pain having to use the scroll bars.

It would also be quite cool if the zoom feature on the tablet could also be used to zoom in and out with the new AGS feature.

General Discussion / Re: The capital wasteland

Living in the capital wasteland does seem appealing while playing.  But if you really think about it, it wouldn't be all that grand.  Barely any food, always hungry and thirsty, people are always trying to kill you.  It definitely makes a better game or movie than it would a reality.

Now.. a reality I've always dreamed of living would be a Left 4 Dead scenario.  If the outbreak was fast, canned goods and such would still be in the stores.  People wouldn't have had lots of time to stock pile and store all food and gas.

This scenario would suck worse for me, since I'm in "no gun" Canada.  Those survivors in USA though would have arsenal up their arse.  I couldn't just hit up a Walmart and take my share of handguns and rifles.  There aren't many places here that sell rifles, and good luck finding hand guns.  Although my father does have a pump shotty. ;D

QuoteWould you use "to jew someone" to mean cheat them or underpay them? No, of course not. Even "gyp", where the racist origin is more obscure, is now pretty much frowned upon.
::)

I wouldn't say it in a group or crowd of people I didn't know or would judge me for saying it, but I've definitely said both before.
I blame the guys I worked with. :P  The one guy was 50 years old and would pretend to be racist all the time, but he of course wasn't.  Like a black truck driver would come in and drop something off, he would then leave and my colleague would say "he was a nigger".  It was funny.  It's wrong, but it's funny.  He only said it because he knows you're not supposed to say it, which makes it funny because he did.  But if he ever said it to the man's face, I would be extremely awkward and walk away.

It's like the CollegeHumour spelling-b video of the word "Niggerfaggot".  I found the video hilarious, which obviously I'm not alone since it has tons of views and they of course made the video to be funny.

They had a saying at my old job which was "a black person isn't a nigger unless they're gangsters or thieves, etc".  I seriously have no issue with someone calling a black person who dresses like 50cent with bling up his arse and jeans down to his knees a nigger.  But if someone were to call Obama or a straight up black citizen a nigger, to me that is offensive.
Just like white people who dress like 50cent, pretending to be gangsters, I have no issue calling them Wiggers.  Which has obviously originated from "white-nigger".

Anyway, the big question is: was my post offensive?

Haha, yes that also happened to me.  I asked her if it was a Diamond, and she answered yes.  But every time I asked she'd still say yes, but it wouldn't cost as a question.  When I finally said "I give up" she told me the answer and it was a completely different mineral.  Damn liar.

I don't know if you've figured this out already, but you can also play games with her if you ask nicely... Hangman is quite fun.

Yeah, I tried to play 20 questions with her.  She gave wrong answers both times, which lead you in the wrong direction.  Hopefully someone will try it and actually guess the answer, because I gave up with it.

See, it's been a while since I've used Pascal.  Truthfully it wasn't Pascal, it was Turbo Pascal. :P  But it looks the same.

So all that you're grabbing is a character?  Not a string of characters?

In Turbo Pascal I used to use (forgive me if I'm remembering this wrong) something like this:
Code: ags

var
c: Char;

begin
while (c<>'A' and c<>'B' and c<>'C' and c<>'D' and c<>'E') do
  begin
    c:=readkey; //this grabs the character
  end;
end.

I believe this will work.  Like I said, it's been several years, so I may be wrong. :P
Turbo Pascal was always my free hobby program that I made little graphical games with, then I found AGS and never looked back.

I believe I understand you correctly.  All you want is for it to repeat if currentstate != 'A'?

I don't remember exactly how the while statement is typed out, but wouldn't this work? (it's been years since I've worked with Pascal):

Code: ags

{ *** Main Program *** }

begin
  while (currentstate != 'A')
  begin
    write ('Input a string consisting of the symbols a, b, c, d, and e: ');
    readstring (string, stringlength);
    process (currentsymbol, currentstate, string, stringlength);

    if currentstate = 'A' then
      writeln ('String Accepted :-)');

    else
      writeln ('String Rejected :-(');
  end;
end.

I must agree, 'complete' alpha channel support on everything from dynamicsprites to GUI's, and I'd have really no other greater request.
I would feel complete.  :D

They are from the 2.72- editor. The 3.0+ editor no longer requires these tags. They were there to provide the same functionality that the function list drop-down box now provides but for built-in menus. So despite the warnings, they're safe to delete.

It was the third thread that would've come up if you had searched for '#sectionstart'.  :P

The power glove video was actually entertaining, but he swears at random and way too often - almost like Dualnames!!  :=
I've had the Nintendo since it came out and totally don't remember there being a glove controller.  I'm so glad I never owned it.

If you listen to Celine Dion's Titanic song, one line sounds like "I believe that the hot dogs go on" :=

Hopefully that wasn't another Canadian joke.  ;D
Celine is french Canadian, and we all know they don't count.  ::)

It's at least as East as Ottawa, all my friends their say about like that. It's no so much "A boot" as it is like "a boat" or "a bough it." More troublesome is this "Zed" nonsense; what's the first letter of the pronunciation of "Zed?" is it "Zed?" Or is it "Zeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee..."

Totally.  I wholeheartedly believe it actually should be 'Zee' instead of 'Zed'.  It's hard for me to shake the 'Zed' from my brain since it's how I was taught, but I try to say 'Zee' as often as I can.

I guess it's similar to W (double-u), you never say double-u in a word that contains a U.  They probably wanted to mix it up a bit instead of actually having the pronunciation of that letter within a word to be the same as how the letter on it's own is pronounced.

Ryan Timothy, are you absolutely serious when you say you didn't know some Brits don't pronounce R's except right before vowels?

At first I thought you were just fooling around when you said "they shouldn't etc", as if there are shoulds and shouldn'ts when it comes to accents

Well, I realize every accent is a little different, so no Andail I'm not an idiot.  Some acknowledge each letter, and some completely void them.
When I say 'should' be pronounced a certain way, is mostly because this is how the most common and widely known english accent (hollywood) is pronounced.  You technically can't say we say it wrong, and neither can I say it about you... but I try anyway. ;)

Edit: Actually one thing that I am curious about, is this how they're taught in school?  Are they actually taught to pronounce the R only when it's before a vowel?  Or is it just a losing battle between teachers and accents?

When I was 5 or 6 years old I had to attend a special class once a week for a month or two just so I could pronounce my R's, TH's, and a few others.  I was saying 'cah' instead of 'car', or 'fee-ater' instead of 'theater'.

An R is supposed to have a rolling of the tongue sound, are you guys even taught this?  Do you even get taught basic rules on how to pronounce letters as a whole?  Or are there literally different english rules for each country/area?

I don't know if this is just due to my accent, but when I say "Steak ham" it sounds the same as "Stay calm".

Yep, it's your accent. :P

I don't know if these will work without you visiting the site, I stole the link from dictionary.com.  It's the audio clip pronunciation of how to say the two words.  It's exactly how I pronounce them, and how tv and everyone else around here does as well.

Fought (or the direct link).

Fort (or the direct link).

I also have no idea why people say that Canadians pronounce things weird.  Like 'a boot' instead of 'about' for instance.  I personally don't believe I am saying 'a boot', nor do I hear it.  Perhaps it's those eastern provinces like New Foundland who we get confused with, they have a horrible accent.
