You'll have to make a GUI with a text label.
Then inside the text label type this: @OVERHOTSPOT@
AGS does the rest.

It would be perfect for the AGS database.

Also one to check the image when it's loading would be nice too, then replace it with an AGS "no image available" image.
I've noticed Lots of games have broken images lately even the well known game Nelly Cootalot has a broken image.

Is it possible to have a php/mysql (or something) script that checks to see if the url is not a 404 or not found?  I imagine once a website forwards you to their own custom 404 url, it could become quite tricky to script.  And some people have the download url direct to their website games section instead of the file itself.

I'm just shooting ideas into the air.  I have no clue if it were possible.  But if it is possible, the site could do a daily/half-daily check to see if the url was correct.

Actually just before posting this I did google check for some php scripts, and it is possible.  I have no idea if it'll detect whether or not the url location was redirected to the websites own 404 page.  I don't understand php at all. :P

I also like the shadow on the ego. I hope that will be staying. :P

wonkyth, you have an extra backspace in the url to your avatar.

Is that your avatar?

Cause I could be wrong, but this looks like your avatar now. :P

we all know the right way is miss-J :D
(I now know how it's supposed to be pronounced but I can't for the life of me train myself to say it right in my head)

Those pesky sticky's are always over looking. :P

The best thread to ask a simple question is the Ask something - We can help thread in GenGen (it's hidden all the way on page 3 at the moment).

QuoteAnd Ryan, fantastic work on Wonkyth's avatar. Mysterious and festive.

I couldn't refuse the challenge and Wonkyth's avatar, for as long as I've known has been a broken image.  It just felt right.

I totally agree, I love him now.  Although I never expected his innards to be green. :P

wonkyth, like I said, 'tis the season!

copied slightly from snake's colors and design (it's a shared gift) haha

You better at least pretend you're happy for this present this year--last year your attitude was terrible!  :-*  ;D

Umm, william looks like a red blinking hershey's kiss with frame shifting Parkinson's. :P

Welcome to the forums, I guess..

Ha! Finally little Darthy isn't so grumpy looking. Excellent.  'Tis the Season.

Site & Forum Reports / Re: New AGS Website
Fri 18/12/2009 22:43:16
I had completely forgotten about this thread, and it looks like everyone else has too.
I'm eager to get that website up and running, so I made 2 images that you were missing and some suggestions of what I felt would be better.

This image is needed for the Forums tab, since you have Recent News, in it's place.  Since the one you had on the Home tab had SSH's hands all over it. :D  That guy has his hands all over Everything!

This is for the Games tab.

This replaces your temp graphics for the AGS tab.  I couldn't think of what to put in here.  I used a magnifying lens, but I fear that people will think it suits "Search" better.  Let me know.

This is a feature I love the most, the ability to check which games everyone in the team has worked on, but once you have some names like SSH or Mods on the list (who have worked on dozens of games) the list becomes quite large and clusterfucked.

I definitely love the feature, so I don't want to see it disappear.  How about having the >> buttons to show what games that person has worked on (like Nikolas in the example above).  Also the light cell division really helps keep your mind at ease.

Possibly even having the "so-and-so has worked on X other games: >>" on the right of what they were a part of.  But I don't know how to word it without it being too long.  Perhaps just: "Has worked on X other games: >>".

Also this was one thing I didn't really like.  Perhaps instead of "Recent Comments" have "Recently Added" or "Newly Added" games.  Comments are really useless to me compared to recently added.

Also Lucky Dip, perhaps instead of randomizing through EVERY game, have it randomly search through 3 cups or higher games.  Or even "ALL" beside the Lucky Dip.  I don't want to sound rude, but usually when I press that lucky dip, it seems to more than not choose a 1 or 2 cup game.  A game that doesn't look interesting at all and one I wouldn't want to play.  I know it kinda destroys the idea of randomly choosing a game, but the most people I can see using this random feature would be people new to the site.  People who are unsure of what game to play first.  We don't want to scare them away with poorly made games, do we?

Anyway, that pretty much sums it all up.
If you have any other graphics you need, let me know and I'll see if I can help out.

edit: Actually since the other thread was deleted, I completely forgot about my last template idea.  I think I'm gonna resurrect this old buddy and turn it into my own site, with a few modifications obviously.

edit again: I was also thinking about having the ability to search games by user rating.  Which the idea stemmed mostly from the user rating thread in GenGen.  Anyway to make it just the same as the blue cup rating, how does this idea sound?:

That way player rating looks just the same as the panel rating.  Just as professional.  When I look at player rating being 84%, somehow it looks much bigger and better of a rating than 4 cups (which 84% would falls at 4.2 cups--rounding to 4 cups).

I must agree, those alien sketches look mighty wicked.

Critics' Lounge / Re: Platformer 'Run-Cycle'

Wow that's really small. :P

The biggest issue is the midpoint frame.  It's especially worse on full speed.  The legs look like they cross, and there is even a slight skip in the walk.

Also, he really shouldn't have glare on the front of his boot if his boot is back.  Start removing the glare when his boot starts angling backward, and perhaps have a spec of glare on his heal in the final cycle (perhaps).

Also his skin seems purple, is he an alien by any chance?

I know he's holding a gun and all, but his torso seems pretty straight.  Usually when you run your upper body is pushed forward.  I'm just not sure how you'd look while running with a gun.

General Discussion / Re: Rating system

QuoteBy saying that, you're demeaning free games. Quite a few of them are much better than the majority of commercial ones.
By commercial games, you mean AGS ones right?  Because I haven't played an AGS game yet that is better than a big title Adventure game (Sierra, Lucasarts, etc).

And yes, I am demeaning free games slightly, but you can't honestly tell me that a 5 cup AGS game means: It's as good as Freddy Pharkas, Monkey Island, DOTT, etc.  It just means it's a damn good 'AGS' game, or at least it's how I view it.  Although the Apprentice game comes pretty close, and I haven't played the KQII+ VGA yet.

Ok, I punched that code in while I was in Facebook and didn't notice anything happen.  Then I started scrolling and clicking and all these solar flares show up every time I scroll or click.  Odd.  lol

Which is one reason why I believe:
1/5 cups should be for joke games, poorly made games, or games that aren't really even worthwhile or broken.
2/5 cups should be for somewhat entertaining games with little content (in some areas perhaps lacking dialog, interactions, animations, a story or other important elements)
and obviously 3/5 being for the average game

These are free games, so obviously we shouldn't be too strict on the rating but also not too lenient either since honest ratings will help promote the games that deserve the higher rating, and in the end they'll promote AGS; giving us more games!! :)

I could be wrong, but I believe it shows you everyone who is currently 'viewing' the site.  Also it shows the closest internet gateway (whatever it may be called) to your location.

The first time I viewed it, a few people from the states were active.  And just now someone from Finland was active.

It's pretty cool.  Makes you realize how big, yet small, the world can be.

edit: Actually it would be really cool if the AGS forums had this globe.
Also, why can't you put your mouse over the previous visits in the 3D globe, like you can in the 2D flat view?

Actually I'm curious here.  On the last Axe frame where it's hovering on the left side, is that supposed to be an attack that is inside the creature?  Or will it be hovering in the air like that cause it's already made it's cut and passed to the left side?

If it's only hovering in the air as the after attack, I suggest putting her left arm closer to the head of the axe to stop the momentum.  Otherwise the axe would never stop it's course (with human strength anyway) and she'd be forced to release the axe, like how a golfer accidentally releases his club.
