Overall I like it.

Can't get past the 3 pixels above her lip (the indent). Almost looks like a shadow mustache, like in King of the Hill, the character Joseph Gribble.
Maybe collar bones, if the character isn't going to be covered with a full shirt.  Unless you're just asking about the face.

First off: Progz, thanks for the 3 votes. :P

Second: I totally forgot to mention how (if i were to use this background) the ego would properly walk amongst the skeleton and sandy dunes.  I'd make a walk-behind region behind the main area of sand.  Then as the ego climbs out of his boat and walks forward a little.  The closer he gets, the less of his legs you see behind the dune.  When half his lower body is no longer visible, he walks left to where the two dunes are almost at the lowest and the skeleton is at the highest.  He faces the hole in the sand.  Then while animating him walking forward, you raise the character towards the top of the screen until his feet appear to be walking on the front dune.  Then change it so he would draw above the walk-behind region, and have him walk forward a few steps.  This would all have to be a programmed sequence of course.  It is what I would do, and was thinking of while designing it, if I were to actually use this scene.  Also do this in reverse when the ego is leaving the cave when he clicks on the boat.  I hope that made sense.  I also wouldn't have a walkable area at the lowest areas of the skeleton just above where the anchor is.

For some reason I'd like to see little circles as their hands whenever they are grabbing something, or interacting with something.

I'd like to see a hacker shut his site down.  I like that ending better.

I like what you did on the boot 'collar' or whatever it's called, to separate the blurriness of it.  Llort looks much healthier now and less glow.

I made a quick edit (mostly on his face) to show what Llort would look like without double pixels as Layabout mentioned.  I also changed the outline to give you an idea of what he may look like without black lines, if you choose to do this or not (i feel it gives him a more cartoony look).

I know it's already been mentioned, just hope you remember to extend those arms a little.  Looks good.
Progz has some amazing pixel power.  I'd rather be able to pixel like progz, than drawing the type of backgrounds and characters I draw (i'm much more fond of the nostalgic look of pixelling-but I suck at it).

Alright lets try this again.

It's very possible to have the two coexist (just not yet. lots of work my friend).  IMO there is too much blurring and smudging on the boot.  Also making it appear out of focus.  (as far as I know, unless you're downloading low quality movies, Disney has never introduced a pixelated character and a blurry background, <like I said> as far as I know.  Yes they go into great painted detail on their backgrounds-especially Aladdin with their blurry CG animations.  But their characters are always colored properly, and the backgrounds usually have the same colorful contrast.)

Average character:

Like I said, you're either going to have to tone down on the backgrounds or start drawing your characters with a little more detail.

Also on a personal note, avoid coloring your characters with near colors as the average backgrounds.  If your backgrounds are going to be dark, you'll have to do something with the Trolls pants and hair.  Barely noticeable against the shoe.  If your backgrounds will be bright, like maybe grass and bushes (like I can see you doing), you may not need to worry about changing the dark colors too much.

The shoe would be great if you could draw characters to match.  But that takes A lot of time, and I personally wouldn't try it.  And your walk cycle on this character is already fabulous!
I say kick the shoe, and go with pixelated and cartoony backgrounds. :P

The troll looks amazing and goofy, meets the perfect criteria for our everyday adventure game protagonist.

The shoe looks great also, But not together.  Looks like graphics from two totally different games. IMO

Your background should look more like this if you are going to have a character like that.

(it's a previous thread that I happened to stumble upon with great Paint-like graphics)

I totally agree with you Domino, it was as good / or even better than Gears of War (I spent many many months playing that one; multiplayer)

AGS Games in Production / Re: NES Quest

Hey I was thinking about this game while I was at work today.  I would love it (not in this game, maybe in the sequel.. since you're nearly ready to release the game), if you had a few 'real life' Nintendo game-like puzzles.  Like in the Seinfield episode where George was pushing the Frogger game across the busy road, and the camera was looking down at George in birds-eye view as if he were playing a Frogger game himself.  I loved that part.

Yeah I'm trying to avoid the character scaling myself, on my game, not a very big fan.  Destroys the characters image.
#2773
Yeah the image Nacho posted is from www.idleworm.com (as it says in the picture), and it's the tutorial I used a few months back to figure out how to make my character walk about.  Idleworm has the front and back, and side views of how to get your character walking.  I highly recommend it.  Good find Nacho.

Great..  :) We were all hoping for more competition.  Definitely keep it coming.

I like that finish better than "i'll always let you be one step ahead of you, because I love you", that was lame.  Why would she still want to hunt her son down.
If I had those abilities, I'd definitely help out the government (only if I agreed with the request).  He'd be amazing in hostage situations, the terrorists wouldn't know whats going on until they were one by one transported to a prison cell.  That's what I was hoping to see in the movie.

QuoteI don't like the first ones nose, its too blocky imo.
No way.. lol  the blockish noes makes him look snooty.  I like it. Reminds me of Dustin Hoffman in the movie, Hook (as Captain Hook).

I like what you did with the sword guard, aiming it in the proper direction so it covers his hand.  Now that you did that he seems to be pointed in the right direction.

As for shading, I was only curious; it wasn't a suggestion.
#2778
I'm no fencing expert, but it looks like the center line of his shirt is off to the right too far, making his upper torso aim away from where his head is aiming, and the rest of his body suggests he is facing more to the left.  Looks awry.  And the olympic fellow looks as though his upper torso is facing 7 o'clock (6 o'clock is directly behind camera view; he's aiming slightly to the left of camera view).

I like the character, are you going to be doing a little shading?

I've got a Wacom Intuos 3, 6x11.  I bought the wide version because I use a wide 27" lcd tv as my monitor.  (i'd recommend you getting a wide tablet, because no doubt, in a few years you'll have a wide screen monitor, or you already do have one).  You can always set the drawing area of the tablet so it's the same as your aspect ratio on your monitor, if you still have a 4:3 monitor.

The wacom tablets, from what I have noticed, are very durable.  I already chucked my xbox remote (VERY HARD) at it by accident, it cracked the face of the tablet, very small crack, but it's no where near the drawing surface.  Hasn't affected the performance at all.

If you buy used, the only thing you have to worry about is if the surface is smooth and scratch free, but it's very hard to scratch the surface (it's a hard flexible and thin layer) all the wiring for the magnet pen/mouse are actually cased in the plastic casing, like a 1/4 inch away from the flexible thin drawing surface.  So if the drawing surface is still smooth and undamaged, there is No way you can damage the internal guts of the wacom tablet (without dropping a sledge hammer on it. haha).

And BUTTONS!! Get buttons on your tablet!  Unless you are a keyboard junky, and like to have one hand on the keyboard, while you draw.  I use both though.  I use the tablet for quick functions, and the keyboard mainly for undo (ctrl+z).

I found an interesting tutorial, I applied it to a few images and it doesn't look that bad.  You have have to do a little tweaking (applying other layers over the blur that have had a different effect, and set opacity to low. I did that a few times, sometimes just to define the edges. But it was mostly just fooling around.)

I hope this makes your image look better than the 4 you have.
