I love how with your new wacom tablet, you're still using the pixelated look with your 640x480 backgrounds (with those 100% opacity brush circles).  It's a very different affect than any other I've seen.  I'm not a great fan of it, but it does look good and eye catchy.

The one for Skitzo though, almost looks as though the plague or something has infected the town.  Like some crazy mold clinging to each building and street.  Or I'm just crazy; that's more likely.

QuoteMy psd is one layer, it was max 2 but I often merge them.

That's a shame.  I was hoping to see what it looked like under the dress.  :D

I really enjoy learning from other people's rough sketches.  Like how someone will roughly scribble around to make the character's formation; hands, arms, torso, etc.  Looks like a big mess, then they go over that layer with a layer that has the final outline.

My problem is I'm too precise and critical with my rough sketches.  I should just go crazy with the stylus and not worry so much.  Forget the line tool, Ryan! lol

So does anyone know off-hand about any good drawing tutorials?

I would actually just love to see your .psd or .psp files with all the layers, with hopes that I could learn from that.  My backgrounds aren't 'horrible', they just don't have that Lucasarts/Sierra feel, like your backgrounds.  I'd like to see the layer with the sketch work, and whatever layers came after that.

I understand your color choices, mainly.  Like with the lighthouse challenge, the dull purple building against the bright orange/pink sky, helps give depth.  Also anything in front of something bright should be darker (just like the dark fence instead of just choosing a mid range brown).

QuoteGay, the insult, is meaningless.
QuoteI don't see how being called a faggot would insult you but you say the insult is meaningless, when it obviously isn't to you if you are insulted by it.

he means it's meaningless as in, it doesn't mean "you're homosexual", it's just an insult with and without meaning (usually said without meaning).  If that made sense.

lol.. all I can say is .....what?

All I have to say, is drawing sprites first is stupid (like room objects and what-not).

You really don't know what your backgrounds will look like until you make them.  Well you may have ideas, but you don't know exactly the colors, angles, etc.

I draw my backgrounds first, always planning ahead, thinking about my storyline, where objects/puzzles/characters/etc will be placed.  Then once the background is complete, you can get an idea on what colors and lighting will look good on your object sprites.  Is the light coming from the right/left/front/back, what angle is the room at; you don't want to draw a box on the floor with only a front view (looking paper thin), if your perspective suggests the camera is higher off the ground.  This way you can match perspectives when you draw the 'box' or whatever sprite afterwards.

Yeah I needed 'area' for the ego to be able to walk, otherwise it would be just a picture and not a background.

You know what Stupot, I think you're right.  If someone I knew (or even worse, didn't know) sincerely asked me if I was gay, I'd probably flip out too.

QuoteWhere I live, most common insults involve disease

What kinds of things do they say?  "Andrew has cancer!" or "Get away from me smallpox carrier"  Weird, I've never heard of that.

No way Miguel, post yours.  You never know, I might not even finish it.  :P

Yeah those windows aren't complete yet, including top windows.  I was just getting some critique on the rust look.  Thanks though.

Excellent game.  I still think the fat boy playing the old hand held should have been a part of the quest.  Like you have to play the hand held game to obtain an object or something along those lines.

If you guys make a sequel you should definitely make more 'arcade-style in-life moments'.  Like when you were told to feed the fish.  The fish should have been in a large tank against the wall.  The camera should have been at a full view of the tank and then you had to press left or right to control where to drop food (just like the hand held).  The food drops slowly to the bottom of the tank, but you have to drop it close to where you think the fish is going to be swimming (as it swims back-and-forth randomly).  You only have so many pieces of food, then you have to 'restart' the challenge if you run out, until the fish catches a certain amount of food.

Also like I had mentioned before, a scene where he has to cross a busy street, have a top view of the street.  Let the ego move left, right, forward or backward.  Then the player has to control where the ego is going to safely cross the street.  Watch this:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyuY_ZwDbXE  I love that scene.  Of course only do this action once, otherwise it would be too much.

Normally in any other game, this of course wouldn't fit and would be very weird.  But in an NES game, it fits perfectly!

I like it, and nice choice in music.
How many frames ... errr.. pages are there in that animation?

I really don't know.  I say it quite a bit myself.  I don't ever get offended by someone using the 'gay' insult on me, because I either know they are joking, or because I know I'm not gay so who the hell cares.

Sometimes when it's used, it can be uncomfortable though.  Like when you're in a unfamiliar crowd and you don't want your initial appearance to be damaged, while the person who said the gay insult becomes to appear more dominant or as the alpha male.  I kid you not.  lol

Also as shbaz stated, it can possibly destroy any chance of the opposite sex finding any interest in you.  Unless you're female and are being called a lesbian, then in most cases, the opposite sex will find you more interesting.  Not so much for me, but I know lots of guys who sometimes do find lesbians or bisexuals more appealing.

Yeah I mentioned that already.  I'll touch that up when I get to the slightly wavy water.

Hey thanks.  I'll change the lines in most places where the rust is passing from sheet to sheet.
What do you mean by adjusting the door shape a bit?  Make it a little more 3d (with an angle on the left to show a little depth in the metal?), or less freehand crooked? lol

Hey everyone.  This lighthouse is for the background challenge.  I'm not done yet, still working on a large portion of the image.  But I want some critique on the rust/oxidizing/painted look.  So give it a look, tell me what I'm doing wrong, cause I can't seem to think of a way to make it better looking.

Here's the reference:

As you can see the whole image isn't complete.  Still need railings, water, top of the lighthouse, shadows, better sky, detailed cement, glare, etc.  Just tell me what I can do to improve the rust look?  I'd rather know now, while I'm still currently working on it.  (the base in water will be rounded)

Hey MT, we've never talked before, but I feel we could have this strong bond between the two of us.

Is it just me, or are the youth of today getting dumber and dumber?  Sure, I work in a sawmill, of all places to be making examples, but as the years grow I've been noticing one thing; each new young ankle biter has ONE set attitude and ONE set pace.  Which the attitude is: 'I am the ruler of Gods, bow before me! I know everything, meanwhile I'm dumb as a worm.'.  Also their pace is as slow and as lethargic as one can get without actually being declared 'dead'.

For example, MT.  We hired this new kid on Monday, with buck teeth bigger than a beaver, who should probably not be operating any saws because his teeth would more than likely chew through any wood faster than any machine.  Ignoring that, he says he drives 30 minutes to get to the sawmill.  That's not a problem, heck, I drive almost an hour.  I thought it was bad enough that I go through almost 50 liters of gas a week.  But this damn kid is driving a gigantic pickup truck, that No kid living in the city should ever own, and says in 3 days he'll run empty and it'll cost $100 to fill.  So he's burning 100ish liters in 3 f*cking days!!?  Then he laughs and says "ya, but it probably wouldn't be as bad if I wasn't driving around with a seized caliper.".  What a tard.

Whats the point in going to work for his measly starting rate of $11.50, if he's going to spend more than half of it on gas?

To top things off, he mentions he has a baby on the way!  Why the hell do stupid idiots (I don't say he's stupid just for the things I've mentioned, he can't even grasp the simple jobs a mentally challenged employee would excel at.), anyway, why do stupid idiots like him and all the other idiots I've met have children???  Who would mate with these people?  Is the world filling up with genetically retarded inbreeds?  Are they the byproduct of kids who fiddled with their cousins or sisters and now have a cake in the oven, and the cycle is set to repeat?

Is this just Canada and United States?  Or worse?  Is it a world wide epidemic?  Is that ludicrous movie Idiocracy correct?  Are the smart withholding, while the dumb repopulate?

Now I realize many of you in here have children, congratulations, you're helping the population of tomorrow (because most of you seem intelligent enough to raise great children).

Maybe I'm not one to talk?  I don't exactly have the job of jobs.  I don't contribute to this world, I just consume and pollute (like you all).  But at least I am getting my life settled before having a child.  What did you say?  What about accidents?  What the f*ck is an accident?  It's only an accident if you're too stupid to listen to your correct head.  Properly used: Condoms + birth control = thank the gods.

I also learned that maybe I should not stay up longer than 24 hours?  Damn that background challenge, f*cking TheJBurger and his Lighthouse challenge and PixelPerfect with his silhouette challenge. lol  I was up all night working on that crap, it was addictive.  Yeah!  What am I doing on here? Get back to Photoshop!

So MT, all I can say is that you're a good listener.  Thanks for sticking around.

*spelling mistake (in a thread explaining how stupid I find some people. go figure)

Lol Domino!  You and the outer space creatures.  You did the 'creature from space' in the last coloring ball too.  Lol  He looks like Homer :P

Alright I'll take a good look at this silhouette and try to come up with something.

I like the style looks good.

Only thing, I found it very hard to notice the pupils and iris of the victims eyes.  If you could possibly lower them just a tad, I feel it'd be a bit more affective.  Or if not lowering them, try adding some redness at the bottom, nearer the back of the eye.  I don't know.. really.. I just find myself staring at the eyes wondering what happened to them, until I notice the tiny sliver of the iris.
