You have a horizon indeed, but then the parts in the distance are much above this horizon. This means the path and the grass must be a steep hill, which it for some reason doesn't look like; it looks like a plain field, just incorrectly drawn.

You are correct, this is indeed incorrectly drawn. There should be nothing above the horizon(in my bg there's the far side of the fence seen). I'm surprised I didn't notice this before.

Composition-wise it would be better if you would show more of the pink building. Appearing from the center of the building like that makes it look like the image is zoomed in. Same thing goes for the lack of variation on the red building. Where are the windows, scaffolding, etc.? As for looking empty, I'd suggest adding garbage bins, posters, trash, streetlights, etc., but now before you've corrected the most fundamental issues of the bg.

Hm I see your point. Now I'm considering totally redoing this background but with two point perspective. I'll take your advice ildu and add detail, variation and improve the coloring.

Oh, as for the road, yes that needs adjusting too. It needs to be VERY thin 'cause it's near the horizon line. The same goes for the sidewalk.

Thanks guys, you've been a big help.

Critics' Lounge / BG for practice

Hi,

I just made this background which Is supposed to resemble some sort of a street in a city. The thing that bothers me is that:

1. It looks empty,
2. It lacks general atmosphere.
3. The metal thing on the red building since the horizon is on the same height as the metal thing.

Is there any way to improve this background? Critics aswell as paintovers are welcome.

Five days left people, c'mon!

Whee, here's my entry:

She kinda resembles a stewardes but don't let that fool you. She's acctually from teh futuor!! Just look at her futuristic knee thingy!

Don't know how many colors but still within the limit, res is 59x130.

EDIT: I hope this is what SPC meant by Retro Sci-Fi. How did the people from the 50s think of the new era - 21st century.

There was a Jojo.  In Monkey island II.  Jojo was a monkey you had to use as an inventory item.

James, this is a topic for things that HAVEN'T been inventory items,...yet. Jojo was an inv. item in MI2, as you said.

It's nice but a quick note on the girls hair: it's not outlined like the rest of the characters(A thin black line is present with the other dudes, but not with her). Otherwise, I like your style. Simple and effective.  :)

Andail, KhrisMUC asked if this was a bad topic and Steel Drummer just gave his opinion. I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
I, for one don't think the topic is bad, it's just kind of hard to draw a 'two-faced' god, considering it needs to be usable as a character in a game.

EDIT: Entry:

It sucks I know. I think it's 32 cols.

QuoteHey Saberteeth, did you leave and then come back? I haven't seen you on here in ages...
Yeah I kinda got addicted to a certain MMORPG...but I'm back now! :)

What bothers me the most is the handsThe triceps is moving a lot while the biceps aren't moving that much. Maybe lighten them and move them a bit up when the hand is moving towards the viewer? Try to look at yourself in the mirror and replicate the movement in your sprite.

Hope this helps.

A bundle of laughs! :) (and the graphics are nice, too)

Yes, it would look like that, it's just that I would have like 30-40  items in the list box.
#92
ok sorry for not being clear. i'll try to rephrase:

Lets say that you have a lot of different types of items. And you want to calculate how many items you have in total. Eg. ribbons. You have 10 red ribbons, 15 blue ribbons and 94 green ribbons. Now, I make an item into a list box, called ribbons. I want(when you click on the ribbons) to see how many ribbons have been added.
So when I write 10 into the textbox and press +(button), the total number of ribbons would be 10. But when I write 15 into the textbox and press + again, it would display 25 in total in the label.
I hope I've made this a little more clear.

Beginners' Technical Questions / Calculating
Sat 18/11/2006 12:59:51
Hi!

I want to make a calcualtor in a way. I want the script to remember the values of each item in the list box and then when I write the numbers into the text box, the calculator would display the result(eg. item ammount+number I typed into).
I also want all the items to start with 0 and when they are clicked upon, the calculator would add the ammount I type into the text box to the item ammount and when I click another item and write an ammount, it would add it again etc. How would I make such a calculator. I know it has something to do with ints but my scripting knowlege is to small to make something as complex as this.

BG:

1. The bricks on the left wall aren't using the point perspectine but are just following the line of the wall.
2. Bricks in general are weird in your bg. Instead of using straight lines, you draw it with the pencil?
3. Gradients suck big time. Especialy those from photoshop(at least the built-in ones)
4. The 'Stage' sign is anti-aliased, yet many objects in the background are not.

Can the sprite be scaled or does it have to be in its original size?

EDIT: Ok great, i'll scale it down to 4 pixels ^^

/offtopic: forgot to congratulate you on a 3x victory, so congrats! :)

Hm, the arm is to stiff. Also, your hand should also be more loose, even sway a little.
