I have some news, might be a hard pill to swallow but... if Windows downloaded without your permission or was nagging you to upgrade that's 'cause your settings allowed it.

I've had no end of problems with stopping the upgrade, to the point of having to set the registry myself three times in three different ways as Microsoft changed the settings to make windows 10 be downloaded. Which it did, taking up 4gb each time and redownloading itself every time. And it tried to upgrade in the middle of a stream.

I don't know what fantasy operating system you're using, but my experience was windows 10 kept changing the rules in order to be installed.

And if Microsoft were so generous and nice, they'd offer the free upgrade when the user is ready, not effectively in the beta period where nothing works and old software won't run.

Oh, and they wouldnt clutter up the ui with advertising.

The building turned to dust. That is the destructive mechanism. I don't need to be more specific than that. I know there is a technology that exists that can turn a building to dust, because a building was turned to dust, clearly.

How do you know? What tests have been carried out to replicate "building turns to dust", even on a smaller scale? No conjecture here, I want actual physical studies replicating at least part of it. Otherwise, you're working off of faith.

Quote from: monkey424 on Fri 22/07/2016 14:54:03If you disagree with this, then tell me what you think happened to the buildings?

If you think it was a gravity driven collapse, then did this destructive mechanism obey the laws of conservation of momentum and energy?

Planes flew into it and it fell down. Angels prevented the ambulance from being destroyed by putting up a faith based forcefield, because, as you know, the many eyed flaming wheel of eyes that are angels possess powers beyond that of mortal ken.

As you can see, The circular area around the ambulance matches up with the aura of protection cast by the angel. The remaining concussive force left over from the falling debris hitting the protective angel shield damaged the ambulance, that was there before the towers fell down. Angels are, of course, incorporeal and intangible so it doesn't have to worry about being hit itself, but it protected this particular ambulance. Now, we know that God is totally capable of protecting people and objects from environmental damage, as stated in Daniel 3:10-27, and that was just a normal fire. Partially protecting an ambulance from falling rocks should be totally within the perview of the divine servants of God. Angels are, of course, invisible to the naked eye unless they want to be seen, so no wonder nobody saw it. There ain't no time for "Be Not Afraid" when a building is collapsing. And miracles have been reported to happen at arbitrary and random places, so it's totally believable that the angel can protect this ambulance for no discernable benefit. And clearly, there was another angel on Stairwell B.

This is, of course, the truth, as you can plainly see the ambulance has survived, and this is Strong Evidence for my Angels Protected the Ambulance theory.

Here's a simple question:
What do you think happened to those buildings? Describe what happened, in scientific terms. What was the destructive mechanism?

No. You describe, in scientific terms, how exactly the building turns to dust, and why it leaves so much not-dust debris.

Give me solid scientific fact of the existence of the energy weapon.

An ambulance not being destroyed is not strong evidence, it is conjecture at most. I could say:

"The ambulance wasn't destroyed because invisible angels came down and deflected the heavy debris with their angelic powers."

And I'd have just as much evidence for my theory as you do for yours.

Judy Wood's material has not been debunked - not by anyone here, or in the wider world.

Lol, best course of action is to deny someone ever proved your wrong. :)

Of course, the pattern is:

  • Present a buttload of stuff, just keep posting it, regardless of it's veracity.
  • Someone debunks one bit of it.
  • Say that the other person is cherry picking arguments and ignoring the important points.
  • Deny that any of it has been debunked so that your list of arguments remains big and meaty, and then post even more of them.

It's a classic manuever called Gish Galloping. The only way to beat it is to stop the conspiracy theorist from making 100000000 arguments at once. That's why they love live debates and forums. They can inundate people with walls of text that take way more effort to research and debunk than it does to just post it. Then, when everyone's tired of these walls of text, the conspiracy theorist wins. Of course Monkey424 would say that "this particular piece is more of a supporting bit of evidence" because Judy Wood has no decisive evidence. It's ALL supporting bits of evidence that, if taken out, doesn't matter. And when one bit is taken out, there still isn't decisive evidence supporting the theory. It's just a mass of anecdotes and assumptions. You'd have to go through pretty much all of it bit by bit and explain how it works, and that's just not worth it.

Because Judy Wood never gave decisive evidence that such a weapon she describes exists in the first place.

One thing I was always baffled about is that warners always warn about dread things coming but never explain what all the warned people are assumed to do.

Usually they tell people to "wake up" and "teach the controversy".

Like, Zeitgeist literally ends with coloured lights and vague verbal gesturing that doesn't really mean anything. I think the end goal of these conspiracy theories is not to do anything, but to get people to spread them. They have no solutions, only a vague sense of ease that the world is going to hell but at least they're not unawoken sheeple. Then if the world goes to hell, they can say "I told you this would happen", and if it doesn't, they can rest on their vague paranoia that it will and they're prepared for it.

I mean, when there's a world spanning conspiracy with a group of people pulling the strings that is so powerful nobody can identify them or touch them, what can you do but act like every other Doomsday cult and just vaguely wave your arms around and say "the end is nigh"?

I mean at that point you're believing in a vengeful and irrational death god, in a business suit.

Hey! I'm sorry, I've been rather busy with real  heavy stuff, and being without a computer.  I'll announce the winners now, and put in a vote for Danvzare, as he gave a pretty good back story for his plant!

1st: Sinsin!
2nd: Danvzare!
3rd: Grok!

Well done, everyone, all your entries were cool!

It's not done in the UK. If anything social media gets even busier. There has never, to my knowledge, been a social media blackout in my country.

I'm afraid I've been hearing stuff like that for years and years - hatred against the Polish, Romanians, Lithuanians, the Turkish, Muslims in general...

But what can you expect from a country where one of the biggest newspapers ran a story celebrating Nazis, and never got less extremely right wing than that? The Daily Mail continually runs snarl pieces about "immigrants".

I frankly don't get the racism thing.  It seems to me to be a clear ad hominem lacking a factual or intellectual basis.

Ahem.

I dunno, maybe me actually being here gives me a more accurate picture of what's going on. Can you trust us when we say what's actually happening?

I've MET British racists. Yes, racism is a huge part of it. Yes, the leave campaign sent out leaflets appealing to racists.

It's really hard to be free when you're in poverty and your country is crumbling around you.

So maybe it's freedom for rich people who want to be free from eu workers rights laws, or racists who want to be free to violently oust people they see as foreigners.

This isn't freedom, it's desperation that'll lead to worse things. Don't try to sugar coat it with platitudes. Freedom requires you not to be crushed by your country collapsing.

What especially irks me though. Is that I've heard a LOT of (apparently false) reasons as to why leaving is a good thing. And I've heard lots of people saying that leaving is a bad thing. But I've yet to hear any of the good things you get from staying. I know they're there, but no one seems to be telling anyone. Which is really annoying.

The EU :

  • Funds regeneration of areas of the UK that don't get any from Westminster (that's every area outside of London, AFAIK. London hates spending money on anywhere that isn't London.
  • Opens us up to the EU market, which is vital for our economy. Just... Thinking about leaving tanked the value of our currency, and companies will abandon the UK without its involvement in the EU market.
  • free movement of people in and out of the uk. We have a lot of emigrants living in other countries, the eu has some immigrants that work here. This is mutually beneficial.
  • There are no customs charges on goods sold within the EU. Note that this includes food, because we don't grow a whole lot here in the UK. Prepare for more expensive everything, combined with the weaker pound will deepen poverty and make life real hard.
  • oh, and without the EU helping us with immigration control, the UK has to do it themselves - eating up funds they could use elsewhere. Like the nhs.
  • There is literally no advantage to leaving, especially not any of the ones stated by the leave campaign.
  • Workers rights, LGBT rights, and maternity leave laws are tied up in the EU. What with the rapid disintegration of the country into open bigotry, I'm not seeing how these will be improved by us leaving. They might never come back.
  • EU safety regulations stop dangerous products from being made or sold here. Laugh all you want at pillow case regulations, those things were made with formaldehyde at some point. Either we leave and import goods from places that don't have safety regulations (but they're cheaper) or we import eu goods anyway and pay more for em.
  • University researchers rely heavily on eu grant money and access to overseas resources for their research. Without access to the EU, we are stuck with just our country's resources, and lol we aren't gonna fund schools nah.
  • Isolating ourselves from the international community will only heighten xenophobia. There's already been political violence. What next could happen?

I'm exhausted by this farce. Nobody actually wanted to leave, it is destroying our country overnight, and there doesn't seem to be anything I can do to stop it.

So yeah, being in the EU wasn't perfect, but it was undoubtedly beneficial to us.

Yeah, I mean, you can say that the Treaty of Versailles directly caused Hitler's rise to power. The Wall Street Crash also didn't help.

But I mean, did the Coca Cola Company engineer World War 2 so they could sell Fanta made out of cheap ingredients to the Germans, instead of the more expensive coca cola syrup? Or is this literally just more opportunistic profiteering?

You don't have to have a giant conspiracy to want to profit from war. It's what what vultures do when there's the smell of death in the air.

Plant and Click Adventures

Alright! Sorry for the delay, it was difficult finding the time! The current theme is:

Plants
Our botanical friends! With a wide variety of vines, flowers, mushrooms, and trees, with fruits and vegetables too, plants provide a very wide palette with which to draw inspiration from! Dryads, tree-spirits, myconids, man eating singing world ending venus fly traps - plants are everywhere! So let's adventure with them!

Your task is to:
- Create a character for an adventure game who is a plant! Be they anthropomorphic, monstrous or just literally a plant, you must design and sprite a character who would go in an adventure game, and is some kind of plant, or fungus. I'm leaving it open to interpretation this time, but you must also include one sentence about the character's role in the (hypothetical) game you're spriting them for!
- The sprite must contain no more than 16 colours, total. 3D models are allowed, so long as the texture map contains no more than 16 colours.
- The sprite must be AGS-Ready!

Winners will get one of these trophies!

I'm gonna bet it's something like "Vaccines cause autism" but in my heart of hearts, I'm hoping for The Holy Grail.

Come on, Merovingians! The blood of Jesus flows on! Or The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion! The Reptoid Conspiracy!! There are so many more interesting conspiracy theories we could be talking about! Something you could really make adventure games about. It'd be pretty awesome.

It seems that we're working with more Alex Jones caliber stuff than David Icke, though. Which is a shame, I really love lizard people. Those shapeshifting scamps!

Spoiler
[close]

Nevermind that that's clearly Ramses II's name poorly plastered over Seti I's, it LOOKS like a helicopter! And Mainstream Egyptology doesn't want you to believe that!! The truth is right in front of your eyes, but you're being lied to, for some reason that doesn't really make sense to anyone but a conspiracy theorist who presupposes that everyone is out to lie to them.

Seriously though, what possible reason would people have to lie about the human effects of climate change? The vast majority of greenhouse gasses are made by industries, which also produces a whole lot of toxic sludge alongside it in factories and stuff. The solution to climate change is the regulation and transformation of industry into something greener. That doesn't make money - that loses money. Nobody is making money in this situation. You can say "taxes" though really you can then use that to fund a national health service or something. Governments really shouldn't be in the money making business.

BUT!!!

Getting you to believe that climate change is fakey fake fake and that all these healthful exhaust gasses are GOOD for the earth instead? That makes industries lots of money. Just like when big tobacco companies hire fake scientists to say that cigarettes are good for you. They wanna sell you something. They want to reduce you to what you can provide in capital, and fuck your health and fuck your future.

Honestly if anyone's drinking the flouridated water, it's climate change deniers. There's nothin' but good that can come of making the world greener. There's nothing but bad to come from exploiting the earth further.

Hmm, I don't think anyone's ever tried to change player characters in different rooms during dialogs before. It seems the dialog is stopped upon room change.

If it were up to me, I'd make both rooms the same room in the code, have a black area between them, and just change the viewport to avoid this cross-room stuff. Unless, like, you really need 30 objects in both rooms. In which case, you'll need to set a bool and check it in the After Fadein of the other room.
