Eh, I'm too young to remember CGA. Or even EGA. Though I had an EGA computer with DOS 2.0 on it, and 2 5.25" floppy drives. *salutes*
I remember playing my first adventure game: Simon the Sorcerer. Yes, I was spoiled in the retro game sense there, with glorious VGA graphics and 320x200 res. I was convinced all games were installed on all computers, so when I got home from my grandparents house (where I had first played it) I typed all these messages at my dos prompt:
CD SIMON
SIMON
SIMON THE SORCERER
CD/SIMON
A:SIMON
B:SIMON
CD.. SIMON

Bah. Little did I know that StS did not exist on 5.25" floppies, and even if it did, I hadn't put any disks in. The only games I had were Frogger, Digger, Tetris, Space Invaders, Asteroids, and many, many more EGA games. I even played Frogger soley with the A button. Later on, we got a 66Mhz Win3.1 computer with 256 colours. I played Chips Challenge on that one, as well as my second Aventure game, StS2. There were three more I watched someone play, and I instantly fell in love with them. DOTT, S&M, and Full Throttle. On my Win3.11 computer (133Mhz) I tried my hand at Delphi, Paintbrush, and other games. I remember looking at games in a shop and rejecting them because they were for Win 95. Ah, the perils of computers... and I only learnt most of the things I know about computers in the last two years.

General Discussion / Re:the new ren and stimpy
Sun 06/07/2003 21:53:32
That.
Is.
SICK.

Three words which describe exactly what I say about the New Ren and Stimpy. I could stand Stimpy getting sucked into his own belly button, I could stand him dying from choking on a chicken skeleton (though it was scary) but.. cartoon charactors... doing... THAT? Even south park didn't stoop to that level. When Ren and Stimpy was aired on Channel 4 (about three? years ago), it freaked me out. But I was 11. You could understand that.

Furries aren't that bad, at least the ones I've met aren't. They are decent people, after all. But Cartoons have no inner selves. They are, by nature, one personalitied. What is shown is what they are. Cartoon pornography should not be allowed! Oh, and I didn't watch the clip. I don't want to watch the clip.

Excuse me. I think I'm about to cry with anxiety. Ren and Stimpy are still living... and this time they've gone too far.

I'm going to have nightmares...

Well, I love the Sam n Max GUI, but I just love Sam 'n' Max anyway (but I was distraught when the sound didn't work). In terms of easability to draw, the DOTT style rocked. So did STS2, for that matter. Verb Coins == ick for me, cause I needed something solid to work from, not a popping up GUI type thing.

m0ds: Woo! Another person has played FOTAQ! I made several guis like the one in that game, you know :P

Rincewind: Yup. I loved the BS / DW style interface too. It's a shame you can't do the inventory things they had though... but... *doesn't want to be pernickety* it's double click for interaction in Discworld. Single click makes him walk. Hehe.

And thats my thirty three sense. ~MDragon

How do you make something look like it's obviously a cartoon and not based on anything? Simple! Just stick to primary colours and draw something that says "Hi, I'm a cartoon! I vant to drink your blood!"

Rwambul (pronounced Reh-wam-bull) walking.

Different animations - meh. And the reason he's eating the ladder is because he's a walkin' talkin' bag... I think. Either that or he has a bottomless throat :P

An animation of a discarded cartoon. :P

Nah, he's just the dragon I draw sometimes. I love drawing him. He's cute, no?
#847
Yes, can't you tell this was done solely in M$Pain? (Apart from the Quarterstaff pole, that was done in PSP with Layer Transparency) 82 Colours (OMG, like.), And it took five whole hours. Bleh.

"MD wielding a spirit Quarterstaff"

Meh. I just feel like typing alot about MD and the weapon he's holding. Ignore below if you're not interested.

Malevolent Dragon
MDragon was working as a mercenary at the time of this photograph. A vampire had been sighted in the vicinity of the mansion, singing songs about how nice it is that it's tuesday. Unfortunately, it wasn't. His mission was to infiltrate the mansion and destroy the beast. He can't defeat it with any mortal weapon, so he had a special quarterstaff made, called:

Gadsesburan
This ethereal weapon was created to destroy the musical vampire. MDragon did not want to have a sword, as it was cliché and plus, he cannot use blades effectively. So he argued with his payers and finally convinced them to make a quarterstaff out of the same material as the sword. It is a spirit weapon, which harms the soul more than the body. And undead, whose souls are hanging onto their bodies by a single metaphysical thread, are weak versus these weapons. The vampire, however, has a strong body-soul bond. So it would take quite a while to kill him.

THE END. Tell me what you think of the picture!

...But it's funny that no one remembers that he started dos...
Just as a side note: I thought IBM created dos. He just took over from them. I read that in a book somewhere. Hehe, but I'm the one who also thought the DOS prompt was originally >. :P

General Discussion / Re:story for game
Tue 24/06/2003 22:28:17
Why do you want us to make the story up for you? At least, thats the way I see it. Oh well, here goes:

Lazy games creator is killed in a spontainious flaming in the AGS forums. Who could have done such a thing? On inspecting the charred remains of the games creator, our main charactor (Khan T. Beybotered) is lead into a whirlwind of conspiracies behind the sudden death of the lazy one, the hidden cult of Doetfuroos threatens him at every turn. Hey, this sounds like Pleurghburg. *shrug*

There is a moral to this story. People will give you silly stories if you ask them to make a storyline for you.
USE BRAIN.
USE OILCAN WITH BRAIN
USE BRAIN TO THINK UP GOOD STORY.

It's not like it's the Kama Sutra or anything.

For some people it could be. :P You never know what people might do wearing cloaks and carrying a wand. It could be... unsuitable for children!

...

Pre-Edit: I mean, uh, Necromancy. Thats it, Necromancy. I'm just going to shut up now...

Yes, it's that time again for me to ask you to critique my work. I have a small collection of artwork and it needs YOU! Unfortunately, it's all dragons, so those who are dracophobic, say Aye and run for the hills (after commenting of course.) Those who are dracophiles, please, restrain yourselves. Don your dragon costumes and enter:

http://www.malevolentdragon.net/Gallery.htm

Indeed. Comments will be anylyzed under a stethoscope just so I can say:
"It's dead, sir."

Nope, don't do what I said last. Do this:

Have the screen picture you want to change set as a button, and make each of the buttons that change the screen have this command:
SetButtonPic(whatever)

Just read the Text Scripting Manual for more information.

Lets see. I'm creating a Flight of the Amazon Queen style gui for my game, but whenever I try to add to the inventory, it terminates with this error message:

^ Artists interpretation of the incriminating evidence.

I made SURE that the inventory items fitted within my gui. It was 5 inventory items per line (I set the variable in Game_Start), one line, 33x39 graphics. I calculated this as 165x39. So it can't be the sizing. My gui works until I press Ctrl-S (get all inventory items) or I use Add Inventory. I'm using 320x200x256 colours (apart from the colour loss, it rocks!) Any suggestions? I'm stuck, and this is my first game.
#854
Bah. The reason it's too dark is because I have messed up brightness on my computer, it looks okay to me... sorry about that - User friendliness isn't my strong point. Just drawing :)
#855
Hehe, I don't really know what to say other than: What do you think? It's an anthropomorphic version of one of my friends. ;)

And don't just insult it. Thats cruel! But comments are always welcome! And I'm sorry for the size, I scanned it then coloured it -_-
#856
Okay... here are the short awaited screenshots! The game is split up into two elements;

The adventure.. searching for clues, solving puzzles and getting access to new intreging places!

And the analyzing part! Sift through your notes of previous conversations (and interregations) to solve differently aimed puzzles and riddles alike!

And, you can't go wrong with a good old custom save/load gui and similarly themed pause gui!

And finally, some charactors.

Oh bugger. I think I drew these too small o.o or the main char too big. Bleh.

Yup yup, I've been working on the first room graphics until 12pm last night -_- And I've finally finished. All that's left to do now is making it in AGS...

Oh, and she is blind, but you aren't. She will 'feel' something and describe how it feels to her. And no, she can't feel people :) So E.G she has a ball: "It's rubbery, smooth, and spherical." or a knife: "Cold, sharp, and with a wooden handle." It's obvious to you what it is, but not to her. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE (!!!1!!1!) Don't ask what she has instead of eyes, it freaked me out drawing it.

Unfortunately only people with a direct connection or people with a second sight can acknogledge her. Screenshots pending... Homework x_X

I awake, but can't see through the blackness that covers my vision. I remember nothing, nothing but what I am experiencing now. The heat all around me blazes, but I am still icy cold. I feel around me, revealing I'm in some kind of room. I hear flames burning... where am I? WHO am I?

STBE is about the ghost of a girl who saw too much. She doesn't know she is dead, or where she is. Only a burning rage and a will to escape the hell she is going through drives her. Of course, her rage makes her virtually solid, so no phasing through walls or vanishing for her. Her first puzzle is to get out of the burning room she is trapped in. Fortunately, she can read Braille (she was teaching the blind herself before she died), and that may be useful. The interface is like Flight of the Amazon Queen, but it only has four options: Feel/Touch, Use, Take,  and Open/Close. The reason for the open/close is because you may come across items that need both to be opened, then used.

I'm going to post screenshots as soon as I finish the demo version, which will be tonight (GMT). So, until then, Hasta la Vista, Baby.

[Enthusiasm]Okay, I'm GOING to make this game whether I like it or not :P. [Enthusiam]

Hehe, I'd love to have PC Speaker sounds incorperated into AGS. It's the same thing used in MI1&2, Maniac Mansion (original)and other very old games. You could make the sound of a door opening or a clock ticking without taking up a mass amount of memory! I don't know about you, but, when used properly, can be very useful and retro. But when misused, it's just cheesy ;D

Dragons! Dragons! We all love dragons! All hail dragons! Indeed. Can you tell I love dragons?

Eheh, Mi raeriir doinst memaer hei mi diiren se! o_O Mi consiir, kei woaer waein teo viewiir drachena aetriir drachens? Neiir mi!
...um, sorry....
Heheh, I really don't know why I drew this! I mean, why would anyone want to see dragons eating dragons? Not me!
