That looks pretty good, but I think it'd be better if you manually shaded instead of using a lighting effect. It's almost as bad as a l3n5 fl4r3!!!!11oen

If you're too lazy to manually shade, at least use a gradient over it on a higher layer, and then lower the opacity. That's how I shade sometimes.

Does this look any better?

I'll redo the room background sometime tomorrow, because tonight I have work and more work.

Well, I will have many things there that are historically correct, such as the Xiongnu harassing the Han dynasty, under the rule of Han Wudi. I will put in enough historical references and cultural traditions to draw the player into the story and believe in it, but I will not overdo it by writing Chinese proverbs all over the place in traditional Chinese writing, studying correct dress and architecture, or making the characters speak in Chinese. I will have them use "Ni hao" and "Zai jian" (thank you, Geoffkhan) and also other Chinese words if non-Chinese people can understand them within the context.

The reason for not researching Chinese architecture or dress of the time is that I want to be able to create things from memory and imagination, without using reference photos.

In response to the criticism on the backgrounds...
I agree that they look a little flat, and I realize that the perspective is off on the room background. Actually, the top of the door is almost in line with where my horizon line is, so that is why it appears flat. I tried to fix it by slightly slanting the line, but it didn't work either. I think I will redraw the room with different horizon line, and also try to employ the two-point perspective technique. I've never used that before, as I'm not really sure how it works. Could anyone show me a room with windows and a door (black lines only) using the two-point perspective?

I'm not a very good artist. I don't shade well, I can't draw much except square objects and trees either.

This is more  of a side project to the main game I want to make (see my signature), but that game is currently on hold while we wait for artists to make graphics. I am making this game to see how well I can draw, see how well I can compose music (which I will do for my other game), and to get used to programming in AGS and learn how to make all the puzzles work right.

Wow! That's great. I love everything except for the.. uhh.. bass soundin' thingy. It doesn't really fit with the rest, except later when it's just a steady beat. Sorry if that's confusing. I'll look into the file later to see what instruments were used if you need me to explain better.

Edit: After listening to it for a few more times, I think that the bass does fit. It is a well composed song, except for the ending which is very abrupt. Is it like that for a certain reason?

Yes, the story does resemble the storyline of Mulan. I was trying to think of a game to make so that I could test my programming skills, and I came up with that storyline and then afterward I realized it was similar to Mulan's story.

Geoffkhan, that is a good idea but there won't be many Chinese symbols within the game, and the game isn't really going to be historically and culturally accurate.

Here is another (unfinished) background:

I will add furniture later, and possibly other buildings visible through the windows.

I need some criticism, please.  ???

I just made this background last night, along with the character.

They're going to be used in a game I will make, currently titled Jiang Li Lin. It is about a Chinese girl who goes on a quest to save her father, by escaping her home and joining the military.

Here's the background:

It's the side entrance to a Chinese city. I will add building rooftops later.
Is the lighting correct? Is the sky ok? Could the clouds be better? Should I add something to the right side of the road?

Here's my main character:

I'm not really happy with my character. I can't draw characters very well, let alone females. Maybe darker colors on the dress/better shading would help?

I use PSP 7. I got PSP 8 too, but I don't like it. The interface is really weird. I also have PS 7, but I don't use that either.

A Canon PowerShot A80 digital camera.
Need for Speed: Underground (for the PC).
Money.
A fluffy pink steering wheel cover (this was kind of a joke, but it makes my car pimp).
Some shirts.

I forget what else. I don't care. The girl I like is ignoring me now, or something. It's confusing. And a long story. This is probably the worst Christmas of my entire life. I do love my camera though...

I took that test a long time ago and ended up at 86% or something. I can't remember. Then I did some stuff over the summer, and it dropped down to 74%.  ;D

I got these two tea cups and $40 or so worth of strange teas for this girl I like. She likes to drink tea. I'm wrapping it up into a gift basket. There's also this little book of quotes from women, because she likes quotes. I was going to get her a novel because she likes to read, but I didn't know which one.

I got my parents Uru. Mwuahaha. It's actually for me. They like adventure games though. I bought Syberia a while ago, and they both played it through and I only played about half of it. Uru won't run on my dad's computer though. Unless he turns the graphics way down. This is the first year I actually bought my parents anything using my own money. Most years I didn't get them anything, or they gave me money and told me exactly what to get.

I didn't get my sister anything... I might. I don't know.

I didn't get my other friends anything. Ehh... I'm a horrible person. Haha.

I already got my present. My main one. A Canon PowerShot A80 digital camera. I love it.

Yes, some of them are a grey-blue such as this one. I based my colors off of this photo. I don't think I've ever seen a Kubelwagen with a green top. It's usually a tan color. Changing colors is easy (at least it is with Paint Shop Pro 7), and I can experiment with them after you're finished.

Yay...

Cars...

I have a 1994 Saturn SL1. Here it is:

That's my parent's 2000 Honda Accord EX behind it.

My car is ok. It's my first. The hood has dents because of the previous owner, but the rest of the exterior is nice. The interior is ok, but kind of dirty here and there and the material from the roof was torn off. I paid $1,000 with money I made from work, and my dad paid the other $750 plus $300 or so for a new AC radiator and tires. It has 70K miles now. It was in the high end of 69K when I got it.

It has hardly any shocks left, so every little thing makes it bounce. It has a really annoying squeaky piece on the dashboard toward the passenger side that vibrates when I drive down bad roads.

I'll only have it for another 6 months or so. After that, we'll move away from Hawaii and I won't feel like paying the $800 or whatever to ship it.
Then I'm going to get a 1990 Mustang.

That looks amazing, but we will need it to be grey rather than tan because of its location. The tan ones were usually used in northern Africa in the Afrika Korps, and the grey ones were used on the Russian front, and I believe they were also used in Europe.

That's not to hard to do though. The final colors should be something like this:

You could add some simple shading and detaling, but that might just be your style (without the shading, that is). The helmet/head looks nice, but you could add two eyes to make it look better.

It does look pretty nice. It is a bit blurry as the others have said, but if the characters match you could call it your style. The sun, however, looks a little strange. It looks like a glow of light, rather than a far off solid object (well, ok, the sun isn't really solid but you know what I mean). Also, because of the sun's position behind the mountains, there should be large shadows on the scene.
