That was an interesting read. Thanks for that. I love hearing about behind the scenes converstaions that went on at LucasArts back in the glory days.

Like how they would have intermittent Nerf fights between cubicles.

You should be creating concept art anyways for all of your backgrounds, and most of your characters.

Here's something I got from some ags'er from time before. Whomever created it, please step up and credit yourself. I aplogize for not getting it the first time.

A sketch template. This pdf comes with 2 backgrounds for you to work out your sketches and then scan them in. It gives clues as to where you should end your drawing if you are planning on having the LucasArts GUI below, so you don't waste your time.

Here's what the creator had to say:
Quote
I have made a small Quark XPress document with two frames that fit on a piece of A4 paper. These frames are some 18 cm wide and 11 cm high; so they have the same proportions as a 320 x 200 pixels screen. I print these out and make my BG sketches on them.
After that I scan them in as 150 DPI greyscale images and use these as a "sketch" layer in photoshop.
I've also printed the Indiana Jones sprite on a transparent piece of paper (to scale) and I use that to judge distances and sizes in my sketch (tables, chairs, doorways, etc...)
Hope this helps...

A4 is a standard paper size: 210 mm wide, 297 mm heigh. A bit shorter and wider than US "letter" size...

Downaload the document here.

Yes, the view preview. it is something I noticed before, but managed without mentioning it. But a fix for it would be appreciated.

I suppose check to see what view loop number was selected when preview was selected to return back to that one ?

Edit by strazer:

AGS v2.72 Beta 5:
* View preview window now cycles through whole of multi-loop animations.

Yeah, after I just posted, I wondered if someone had made a new post about Grim within the last 3 hours since I checked in the morning, and I hadn't checked there yet.  ::)

Alright, thanks.

I am for the most part, okay with fan games, but only if I can tell that a lot of preperation went into story development and continuity.
Fan remakes, are harder for me to understand. I understand graphic updates, such as Kings Quest, but then again, I wasn't a sierra baby, so i hold no attatchment to them being redone, but with new Monkey Island remakes, I just don't understand it. I am okay with turning CMI into MI1/2 graphics, and it would be neat, but I would rather see the talents of them all used for a different monkey island game, if not a whole different game altogether.

But I sure do love see updated graphics of Monkey Island sprites, and whatnot. I just don't see the point in redoing the game.

Perhaps Maniac Mansion Deluxe was worthy of a graphics upgrade, but to me MI is perfect, and although the MI "Deluxe" may gather millions of downloads like MMD did, I doubt it will go changing LucasArts ideas on how adventures stand in todays market. And again, I don't want LucasArts making any more adventures. Give me TellTaleGames, DoubleFine, Autumn Moon, and whatever the heck RonG has been planning for 10 years.

It's been done a lot of times:

KQ series, Larry II, MI (now), Grim Fandango (now)...

Who's fan gaming/remaking Grim?

you know, if you were so against registering, you could have posted as a guest. guests can reply to any thread, or you could start a thread in the beginners tech forum as a guest.

Try the windows 2000 version:

http://aafiles.bicycle-for-slugs.org/full/QFG%204.5/qfg_all_2000.zip

-----------------
if that doesn't work, do what our resident 'crazyman' reported in another qfg4.5 thread, which ended up working for what sounds to be the same problem:
use VDMsound.Install it then right-click the QFG 4 1/2.exe file and choose run with VDMS.
http://www.ece.mcgill.ca/~vromas/vdmsound/
Now it should work

Looks pretty kick ass, but I must say, when I first read your post title, I swear it said "New Photos of a recent girl I did."  :o

Just writing to say that you all know that its not my tutorial... I'm just hosting it, so it wasn't lost to the age of the internet.

Yufs, you shouldn't bite your fingernails... you should have more feminine hands. Especially when ingesting hotdogs in large quantities.

I believe you are forgetting about setting a baseline. check that out first, try it, and report back.  :)

The shifty eyes in his post were supposed to show that.

I swear I entered the caption contest before I heard the last one.

And then you ruined the delivery.Ã,  ;)

Goat: I told you AGS'ers I'm not a goat!

There by referring to the long standing joke about us being American Goat Society members... but if I have to explain the joke then its ruined already.

It's hard to have a caption contest winner's entry stated on air, without pictures anyways.

I didn't read that this box is being hung up on the wall in the form of an art gallery exhibit. i read it as "its under a bunch of other boxes in a 'random crap on the wall' type of places." I didn't read it as the owner respected the game and is glad to have it in his collection.

I am all for you asking around to see if you can somehow have it.

Surely someone will come and rescue you. I mean hey, why shouldn't they?
I know how it ends...  ;)

First, I also adore the backgrounds. Adobe-Schmobe.
Second, I'm glad you are not retaining the wild and crazy storylines from MI4, but Herman sailed to Monkey Island and sent back his ship with a bunch of monkeys, I believe.

Unless this is a totally new tale of how he got to Monkey Island, gets rescued, and then gets stranded again. That'd be funny too.

Some ags versions have had a slight problem with this, but then new ones were made to correct it, so could you also mention what version you are using?

You can find it out in the Ags editor -> Help -> about

I do think its great that you are offering a rather nice prize, though.

Critics' Lounge / Flipbook Animation

For a Time Based Media class of mine we had to create a simple flipbook and then later scan all of the images in and make a digital flipbook. I have a boy and girl character that I created in Flash, with character design mostly by Chris Georgenes
( www.mudbubble.com
www.keyframer.com )

My characters are this boy and girl here:

Well, I'm uploading this to the net mostly as a backup copy in case my copy breaks on the way to class, and for people to enjoy.
So enjoy. You'll have to refresh your browser to view it again, sorry.

http://www.lucasstyle.com/media/002srn.mov

It is short and the transitions are there so that the next student transitions from your flipbook to theirs.

When you've got the GUI's manager selected, from under Game Editor along the left side, the GUI section will pop up on the right.

The GUI Edior will now be open, and there will be a list of GUI's already created. Select the STATUSLINE one.

To the right of where you selected STATUSLINE is the GUI name. It is STATUSLINE. Below that are tools in a horizontal row. That is the toolbar. The second one should be Add GUI Label.

lo_res_man, I could see a case against Paint for character creation, and the allowance for it to be used for backgrounds.

I have seen some amazing Paint created backgrounds, where when making characters, perhaps layers would be very useful.

Now I'll go ahead and say that I use Paint for my chars and bgs and love it. I have to get used to DPaint.

You should totally take it. Either get a job with the place, just so you can 'hang around' after hours, or just get a whole group of friends to sit around the area, perhaps a girl with a large purse.
