General Discussion / Re: Christmas specials

If you're a fan of the phenomenal series, then the Very Venture Brothers Christmas is fantastic. It parodies a few classic scenes from classic christmas movies at the beginning, then goes to bring it's own christmas character creation into the spotlight. I can see that the beast will be a cult favorite for years.

A Kramp

Spirit who once rode side-by-side with St. Nikolas each Christmas Eve, delivering terrible punishment to wicked children as Claus bestowed his gifts upon the righteous. (Germanic in origin) It carries reeds and uses them to whip the punishable, and even has a sack on it's back to wisk away the trouble-some children. He SURELY knows if you've been bad or good.

And you gotta love the horrid Star Wars Christmas Special

I can't find anything there...

As a result, "King's Quest IX: Every Cloak Has A Silver Lining" will now adopt a new name: "The Silver Lining". We chose such a name because in many ways it represents the spirit that has always represented our project.

Also, well, you have to be at least a little disappointed with the miracle, white bread, untouched-family-at-the-door ending.

I think that was the general sentiment of the whole audience I was with at the theaters.  I was like "LAME!"    I went with a "cheesy hollywood ending" or a "disney ending" description but your description of it is perfect.

1) Did you have Windows Media Player open? It doesn't need to be playing anything, but if I have it open, I get that same message.

2) You may have to join the exclusive AGS club that has to test their game by clicking on the game icon in the games folder, and no longer through the AGS menu. Congrats!  :=

I'm working on one. It should be up within an hour.

I started looking at some of the old members of this board too. Man, whatever happened to Erica Mclane?
The first rule of AGS Forums is you don't talk about missing members!"

...cause it makes me sad. After like a year after her last disapearance, I bumped an oooold thread here, on her birthday, saying that we missed her, but it happened to be in a post that was entitled "I'm Back" by Erica McClane, from when she previously left and returned (years back) ... and then everyone thought she currently returned, and posted "welcome back messages" for someone that wasn't really here. Oooh, did I feel bad.

We have a collection of open source games that will be available shortly.

General Discussion / Re: X-Men 3

Spider-man:
I've always been against Grace playing Venom. Carnage maybe, but not venom.  And awhile ago, the director mentioned that if he were to do a venom movie, it would probably include Carnage, and they would get their own movie devoted to them, like Spider-man 4.

Then later, I read in the news on SuperHeroHype that Dunst states that Venom is in this one!!  That didn't make sense to me, but its got credentials. I'm still hoping that Grace is actually playing the shape-shifter, or at least one of the personalities.

I think if I were to be writing it, I would probably have Spider-man get that suit during this movie, but at the end get rid of it, as mentioned above, and have it attack/absorb Brock in the church and have the screen go black as it covers him, teasing you for the next one in years to come.

Sandman... I'm pretty stoked about it. I just really hope they continue to make great sequels for as long as the stars can stand it.
-------------
X-men:
I enjoyed this franchise a lot as well. (They need to come out with the 90's cartoon on DVD, my bootleg doesn't cut it). I would love Sentinels in this movie, especially when its been teased to us in xmen 2, when mystique is on the computer, and the secret project file was shown, and with Magneto going beserk this movie, the people may demand the government to help control them.

I've always wanted them to do the Cable/Bishop storyline with Apocolypse, coming back in time to stop the mutant virus. Maybe next one, especially if they bring in Archangel and Apololypse storylines.

Whatever, I'm just a needy fanboy.

Are there multiple characters playable, or can you get away with not drawing walkable areas under where you are putting the NPC's?

I really like the piece. I believe the balloon should be removed, for only the fact that I would assume that it may be used in the game. I would see it as an animating object that bobs up and down or side to side as we are just enjoying the scenery. Plus, that will draw attention to it, revealing that it may have some importance.

The black silhouette on the top seems a bit akward to me. I don't think they are neccesary, but if you want them, I would then make them also shown along the bottom, in jagged rock formations.

The beach should be less colorful, since we are so far away, it should be rather all the same color.

I think there may be too much detail for the wood paneling on the outside of the hut, plus I found it a little hard to determine that you could walk on the roof and sit down.

I love the rope ladder. I would hate to use it whenever possible, but I love it.

I also agree that the horizon line is a bit too high, and yes, the water colors are reversed vertically.

Hopefully you wont take these crits hard because really everything else is stupendous!

Reaching far back I found this really bad website that I was planning on putting up someday. I'm so thankful that I hadn't. It's just like not releasing your first AGS game. It just makes sense.

I am now using Games Factory now that Click 'n Play crapped out on me.
I've tried using Adventure Game Studio, which showed more promise than other ones I've tried, but that one went weird too.

I hope to try and use Scramm once that's out, but I'll convert my game to that engine. I can't wait that long to play my game.

I'm so sorry I was a non-believer.

After searching my HD, I actually can't find any of my old art. Not that it was anything to look at, but I'm partially bummed that I can't find it, and partially happy, for what I will assume are known reasons.

And just be glad I can't show you the artwork I did for my Monkey Island game for the TI-83. I only got as far as in that game to just be able to sail to other islands and see one area, the MI dock, since the TI-83 can only hold 10 drawn frames. It was fun and it took my mind away from class.

I bet he's just really excited about what AGS has become and just wants to take it to the next level. There's no real harm in that.

Joseph DiPerlahas been very kind to work very hard on his Simpsons Games and free templates for others to use. I even helped him quite a lot awhile ago.

I mean, just be glad he's not demanding the updates or acting like a complete jerk.

Joseph DiPerla- You mentioned getting into fights on Glumol... yeah, just yesterday when i was browsing the dead forums, I see the F--- You Joseph DiPerla thread... I forgot all about that.... stupid kids back then.

Have you tried publishing your scene as a gif file, and then importing the gif file into ags. "Import sprites from gif"
#476
you wont want to use one that sets the graphics for it. Even if you were, you were missing telling the engine what graphic you want.

What you want is the old SetMouseCursor, which is now:
----------
Mode property (mouse)
(Formerly known as GetCursorMode, which is now obsolete)
(Formerly known as SetCursorMode, which is now obsolete)

int Mouse.Mode;

Gets/sets the current mode of the mouse cursor. This is one of the cursor modes from your Cursors tab (but with eMode prepended). For example, a cursor mode called "Walk to" on your cursors tab would be eModeWalkto.
Setting this changes both the appearance of the cursor and the Cursor Mode used if the player clicks on a hotspot.

Example:

if (mouse.Mode == eModeWalkto)
{
   // code here
}

will execute the code only if the current cursor mode is MODE 0 (WALK).

I have a 3dMax tutorial you may be interested in. It can at least hopefully point you in the right direction.

In the footsteps of Guybrush - A 3D background tutorial
A 3Dmax tutorial made by DHammarin, who is obviously as obsessed with Monkey Island as I am. It makes me think that there is a possibility for adventures in 3D in the future, but not now. Not when polygons are too sparse, unless it becomes embraced and stylistic like Grim Fandango.

Perhaps making the walking animation slower, it will give the game more time to figure out that "hey, we're on this frame, so we need to play the sound now". I'd at least try it, just to see if that is the problem.

I remember having stupid internet fights with that kid Mekilson or whatever his name was.  He would then be all clever and call me CumBuddy... oh, the hilarity. It was that day that I was determined to be a mod, or something like that.

I think I always felt that Glumol would come. I even defended the makers in the forum when the non-believers started to fight. It was the lack of updates that drove the masses to chaos and the final break-down of the forums.   What's that you say, current glumol page?

Vive Glumol!

Well, Vive Glumol, indeed.

a) Do not double post. Remember that there is the "modify post" button. If someone has read your thread, and then you change it, it will come up again as "new".

b) you need to read the beginners FAQ, as mentioned in the "READ ME BEFORE POSTING" sticky thread at the top of this subforum.

c) when you go to the beginners FAQ, you will find this answer about characters:
-------
How on Earth do I create my own characters!?
First, you must save each frame in the animation in any painting program as a .BMP or .PCX file. Then, import them one-by-one into the Sprite Editor in AGS. In the Views section of AGS, create a new view (or use the existing one to replace the main character's walking animation) and choose the images for each direction there. Next, in the Characters pane, create a character (or use the first one, if you're replacing low-res Roger as your main character) and select the corresponding views. If you want talking views (animations run when the player is talking), then read the question below. Finally, make sure that "This is the player character" is checked off. And ensure that the new/altered character starts in the room you want him/her to (i.e. 0 for INTRO.CRM and 1 for ROOM1.CRM, etc.).
