And sorry about that shadow1000...it was nothing personal, I just thought of the joke and had to pick somewhere! Looks really nice in the picture actually.

Oh, I didn't take it personally :) There's definitely more to Toronto than that one skyline picture! Anyway, I had a good time playing and lots of laughs. Cheers

Congrats on the entry. It was fun to play even if it was the only entry. My only disappointment was :

Spoiler
That Toronto was the only city with no riddle!

I played this game last night and I really enjoyed it! The puzzles were on the easier side, but still a great experience: TOP NOTCH comicbook graphics and animations, very entertaining story and humour and the attention to detail did not go unnoticed

Cheers

If there is only one entry, this game will inevitably be the winner, no matter how bad it is, right? I'm asking for a friend...  ;)

Nice story and backgrounds! It definitely gets my vote :)

Hmm...it seems that the last post in this thread is a few days prior to the vote being closed, and no post announcing the winner, and the title still indicating (VOTING).

Numerically, the winner is Saturday is the Loneliest Night of the Week, so, congrats at winning the February MAGS!

Good turnout this month!

Here are my thoughts:

Prep Time by heltenjon
Spoiler
Game comes as advertised :) Completely dialogue based and some really cool batman graphics. Would possibly appeal to a diehard Batman fan. However, not much play value.

AMAZING game with a huge number of backgrounds and characters for a game created with a time crunch! I had a great experience playing and enjoyed the little story and had a lot of laughs. Weak on the puzzles but as I said, fun to play.

Castle Escape: Chapter 2 by Fernewelten
Spoiler
This is an excellent escape the room game. Very puzzle-heavy and continues the story where the last one left off. I found the puzzles to be right at that level where they are solvable but difficult enough to provide that challenge where you feel that satisfaction when you solve it.

Some notable features: two playable characters with different abilities; I liked the ghost's translucent effect and got a kick out of the part where he moves his head to the level of the action he is taking.

There are complete and detailed descriptions for almost EVERYTHING in the game and you can interact with MANY items that are not key elements of the game. This adds to the experience but may have overstepped the point where it's hard to know what locations or items participate in a puzzle or not. Some might find this to be attractive but I would have preferred less of it

My vote went to
Spoiler
Castle Escape. As with any game created under time-constraints, one challenge to the author is where to focus and designing and coding complex puzzles made the experience just so much better than a good graphic and story/joke experience

Awesome job!

The players have spoken! Congrats on a well-deserved win!

I got stuck in the same place as the others. Unfortunately I didn't see a Save/Load so I had to turn it off and lose my progress. I think I'd be willing to try again if there would be a Save/Load and the language would be sorted out.
You can save and load with F5 and F7.

Ahh...I didn't get that puzzle on my own. Thanks :)

I played the three entries and here are my thoughts:

Signal Loss by Breton
Spoiler

Excellent entry. Really creative thinking and story. There seems to be a feel to the entry that it was created with more in mind that had to get chopped because of the deadline. If I'm right, I hope to see a more complete release. The strengths of the game are in the story, world, graphics, characters and gameplay, especially the sine-wave part (for lack of a better word). There weren't really many puzzles to the game, it was more a list of things to complete but a really enjoyable experience.

Little Leonardo by Raccoon
Spoiler
It takes a special skill to create a complete game without a single spoken word. Instant points for the accomplishment! Outstanding in the graphics, super-smooth, almost professional grade animations, and well-designed puzzles. It took some work to get through the game and I got stuck and needed a hand only on the very last thing to do.

The only negative I want to raise is that because of the non-verbal communication, it was sometimes hard to know what the next goal is. I didn't always know what was being depicted in the thought-bubble. HOWEVER, considering that I was able to work it all out on my own, I don't mind seeing the "what does that graphic mean?" as part of the puzzles in which case I'll say the game was almost flawless, and exceptional not only within the context of this month's MAGS contest but even in comparison to some of the best MAGS entries to date.

Get the Picture by Pajama Sam
Spoiler
I think I spent more time downloading the files one by one than actually playing. I'd say this is more of a reflex test than a game but maybe the idea can be incorporated into something bigger?

To me, the vote went to

Little Leonardo. Signal Loss is a really good entry, but weak on the puzzles. Little Leonardo has it all, and gets my vote

Awesome entries!

I was just too busy to work on this and I really wasn't  much into it. But anyways here's what I left off with.
Presenting: "Get The Picture"
Controls: press spacebar to take a picture. If you miss it press space again.
The goal: To take a picture of an eagle being entirely on screen. Be aware that the eagle doesn't always look the same.
Number of levels available so far:5

Is there another way to download this? When I click the folders to download, a popup opens saying that I need to upgrade to Premium?

Or is this the first puzzle of the game? (that was a joke..)

Yes, eri0o, IRC is still a thing. :) Feel free to drop in whenever you like, we'll be there.

Ok, I'll bite. What's IRC? :)

I agree that it would have been nice to see more votes. I think it's ok that the final score is shown in full. I also think that has there been a stronger voter turnout that the games that got 0 votes may have snagged a few votes. If you have enough voters, then SOMEONE will have preferred those two over the games that got the votes.

Maybe next month we should offer doughnuts for anyone who votes?

Big contrats to OneDollar. It really was an awesome game and the players have spoken!
#115
What a terrific turnout! I really enjoyed playing these games. Here are my thoughts:

Gifting Spirit by Pax Amino:
Spoiler
This game has EVERYTHING! Simple number matching to inventory puzzles to money management and most of all, TIME management. You will want to keep playing this over and over to get a better score each time as you solve more tasks and realize that some things have to be done by a deadline or before other tasks. There is an incredible amount packed into this seemingly simple children's Christmas game.

I believe I played it 7 times and got a lot done. I did not complete the game with a perfect score but I really enjoyed the experience.

Santa Clause in A Flight to Remember by OneDollar:
Spoiler
VERY impressive entry: graphics are stunning, the story is hilarious and the puzzles are far more sophisticated than the average MAGS entry. I have to confess that I did NOT just breeze through the puzzles so every time I got a bit further I said "Oh YEAHH!!!" in joy. I noticed that almost everything you click or combine has clear and detailed responses.

Knorrig the Gifted Troublemaker by Pogwizd:
Spoiler
Well-done pixel art and animation. Lovely Christmas music and some fun puzzles. I had a lot of chuckles while playing. Thanks for accommodating the colour puzzle!

A caixa by Cassiebsg and Elen Heart:
Spoiler
- Graphics: I found the top-down view to be a bit hard to follow. I would not recommend making a complete game like this. Perhaps if there's part of a game where you need to see the big picture at once then a bird's-eye view would be appropriate. Otherwise I'd rather just see what I need to see for whatever I'm doing in the game. The art for the puzzle and essentially the "demo over" art is GORGEOUS and certainly looks like Elen's amazing art we've enjoyed in the past!
- Puzzle: not my speed. Could be other players like this kind of thing?

The concept behind the game is intriguing and once I got past the puzzle I really wanted to know what happens next, so the demo is successful in that sense. I hope this game is developed into a full release!

Oh, and I like that the title is in Portuguese :)

Voting for this contest was not easy because
Spoiler
Gifting Spirit and Flight to Remember are just so outstanding. I like the fact that Gifting Spirit has such a variety of things to do and to be honest, I can't think of anything I've played quite like it. Flight to remember is more of a standard AGS game but incredibly strong in terms of puzzle design, concept, story and art.

Ultimately, I had to ask myself which game I enjoyed more overall while playing and I told myself that Flight to Remember was just that much more enjoyable so it got my vote

Really good competition and it made my holiday season (which was actually extremely difficult) a bit more cheerful for a few hours. Thank you and congrats to all entries.

Short but really enjoyable game. Well-done pixel art and animation. Lovely Christmas music and some fun puzzles. I had a lot of chuckles while playing. Thanks for accommodating the colour puzzle! Good luck in the contest.

The game is super cute with lots of stuff to do. I especially like
Spoiler
that you get every grocery item in your inventory and afterwards it is put into a bag.

Did you make all the graphics yourself?

It would be nice if you could skip at least the intro cutscene with ESC.  Can you give me a hint what those numbers on top mean? I understand the Energy part, but where do I need health points? The orange point is money, I assume, but what is purple?

The bottom number (under the money; I don't know what colour it is) indicates spirit. You get more spirit points as you "do things". You can exchange them for money with someone you'll meet.

What a lovely little game..  I've played it about 5 times so far and still have not done everything just yet.

Spoiler
I have to find 1 doll and post all of the Christmas cards (no idea where to post them)

I played 4 more times last night and finally figured out how to
Spoiler
snag the turkey. I got all the presents, delivered all the cards, got all the lights and revived one snowman. I only found 6 dolls and have to figure out how to revive 3 more snowmen.

There is a LOT of replay value to this game. In fact, expect to play it just to figure out specific tasks so you can develop a strategy to do things most efficiently.

Question: is it even possible to get a perfect score in the time allotted??

Hey Shadow1000,

But I do hope the game is not overly annoying or frustrating in anyway.

Definitely not for me! If anything, you've completely nailed the ability to make a game addictive. If it says anything, I was playing till about 1:15 am last night!
