One bug (I think?)

Spoiler
Once I completed the room in the tower where you sneak past the wolverbogg to activate the machine, the wolverbogg follows me around for the rest of the game. he doesn't kill me but he gets in my way. Is there a way to get rid of him?

to release the force field, based on the hint, I THINK you need the revived carrot and the mug of water. When I try using them together it says that it's right but I need to do it later. I can't use them separately. What am I missing?

I played this game on Thursday night. Here are my thoughts:

Excellent job at capturing and recreating the magic of Christmas in a game! Everything from the story to the graphics to the characters to the music are to perfection. Great puzzles that make you think but are very solvable and enjoyable. Amazing transition back and forth from the magic world to the "real" world creating a really immersive and compelling experience. What a wonderful way to spend Christmas eve.

I was all ready to open the presents on Christmas morning! Amazing job at recreating the proverbial excitement of a kid opening gifts when...

Spoiler
...white screen that said that I screwed up somewhere and it's game over?

The only thing worse than insta-death in a game is insta-death in a game with no save option. And the only thing worse than that is for the game to come to a screeching halt without knowing where you went wrong. I'm all for multiple endings in a game and I remember last year playing this game to get a few different endings. But without knowing where I went wrong, my only option was to play again hoping to do "it" right the next time. I voted between me and myself and we decided not to try again. Had I had the option to save at different intervals and replay from different decision points then perhaps we would have decided otherwise, but as far as I know, there's no save.

So, overall, really good game but there are some factors regarding the player's experience that you may want to consider for a future revision.

As far as I remember last years game (done for MAGS) wasn't a complete version, so I'm guessing this is the complete version, as arrived just in time!  (nod)

How cool! That would be well worth playing again if it's an "expanded" version

Is this different than the awesome game released last year? Graphics look really familiar...

I played this last night. It was a LOT of fun. I laughed most of the duration of the game. I absolutely LOVED the animation of acquiring new inventory objects! It's almost like blurring the distinction between the play area and the interface; I've never seen that and it's brilliant!

Great job, Slasher.

Thank you Shadow1000 and TheBitPriest. Puzzles were difficult but it was definitely worth the effort. What a great story!

You're welcome. It really is an awesome game!

The idea behind the game is absolutely genius. Put in super-smooth graphics and animation, solid and fun puzzles that are the perfect difficulty and a LOT of loud laughs and you deserve a huge congratulations.

Hotspot hunting sounds about right  :-D In a good way, though :)

I'm sure it's just me being dumb but I'm still stuck. I know what I need to do, but I can't find the right item.
Spoiler
I have used the door stopper on the log as a makeshift splitting wedge, but still can't seem to find anything to hit it with (the heavy block, I presume). I thought one the stones in the bag just outside the door would do the trick but the hero won't pick them up. Halp?

Spoiler
You need the mallet. If you don't have one then you need to assemble it from the block of wood and the broom handle. There's another component but I'll let you figure that out...

I'm missing the mallet then. I got the door stopper, the broken broom, salt, bowl, can opener, lantern, matches, hardtack.

Ok, item to look for is:

Spoiler
A heavy block of wood with a hole in it. Mallet is "some assembly required" once you find it :)

Nicely done, TBP! But I think I'm stuck:

Spoiler
I don't know how to light a fire. I have found a log outside, but I have no tool to split it with. I thought it would be in the outdoor cabinet but the character won't open it.
Then I thought I was getting somewhere with the broom but again, no tool to cut the straw with. I'm probably missing something obvious?

Spoiler
I'm not sure what you have right now, but you're going to want the mallet and the door stopper. If you're still stuck, just post again...

Some really good entries this month. A real success!

My comments:

Ice Station Zero by slasher
Spoiler
Graphics and animations are really improving! Great application of the theme. Good puzzles - I got stumped twice but got through with some persistence. Good job

Rain & Snow - The Bouncer by Intense Degree
Spoiler
Cool and original game idea. Intricate gameplay. Application of the theme is a bit weak. Not an adventure game but more of a "pay close attention and act fast game". Having multiple levels where the challenge and gameplay changes is a great touch

The Cabin by TheBitPriest
Spoiler
Absolutely outstanding in all aspects. Even for a full release, the graphics, integration of video, sound for just about everything vivid descriptions for everything and any area of immersive polish scores an A+. The idea behind the game and the way things unfold as you solve puzzles that are of the just-right difficulty level makes the gameplay consistently compelling. The fact that there is such a brilliant backstory and the way it's presented just takes this entry over the top. Of course making snow the central element of the game gets another A in terms of applying the theme of the competition

Not My First Apocalypse: Stormpuncher by PlayPretend
Spoiler
Enjoyable and constant laughs from beginning to end. I LOVE how this game lampoons all the zaniness of today's world from like-addicts to fake news to selfie-addicts and much, much more that one would not believe if it weren't true. The puzzles are top notch and solvable. What AMAZES me is how brilliantly zany the game is with solid, logical puzzles. I actually was worried that the world is just so bizarre that I wouldn't be able to do the puzzles but every time I faced a challenge, something just "clicked" and I had a huge smile as I figured it out. EXTREMELY well done. The rain was central to the game, making it fit perfectly into the competition

The Cradle by Creamy, Kastchey and Julia
Spoiler
Stunning, professional-grade graphics and animation. Even the opening screen was breathtaking. The interface looks like many popular games and is very inviting. After about 90 seconds of play I got a black screen with scrolling poetry that implies that the game was over. I tried 4 more times, with each time lasting about the same amount of time and slowly discovering what I'm supposed to do but after that I reread the release post and the Question mark explanation in-game and still realized that I had no idea how to play and starting over for another 90 second go at it just didn't appeal to me. Maybe if it were released with documentation it would be a great game?

The Cat Case by Racoon
Spoiler
Adorable! I love the mouse-detective puzzle solving! Solid and logical puzzles. SWEET and meaningful story. I loved the graphics. I would have someone proofread the text as some of it was unclear to me as to what was intended. As well, I know that part of the graphics is to show the small scale of the mice compared to the backgrounds but I probably would have the mice take up a bit more of the proportion of the screen. Overall, a very pleasant experience.

I actually got stuck at the end and solved it by spinning the wheels till I got the right combo. I am wondering how the door to the desk puzzle is supposed to be solved? I got the clues about the mayor and the competition in the newspaper but I don't see ANY connection to the wheels with the coloured segments (unless the hint was something else that I missed)

Overall, a very pleasant experience

My vote easily goes to:

Spoiler
The Cabin. I sent a few nit-picks to BitPriest but aside from that, this game is definitely among the best MAGS entries I've played. Every area from the graphics to puzzles the the plot is nothing less than superb. It all comes together to a memorable experience. All I can say is HOW did you do it in less than a month?

Holy cow... and congratulations.

Loving the Cabin, *really* well done!

Hint question:

Trying to split the log, just not sure where the "heavy enough" thing is to hit the wedge with.  I think I've picked up everything I can, tried the metal bar and broom handle.

Did you make the mallet from the bar and handle? I'm not sure if you found the block of wood to complete the mallet

Why can't you remember a time before the snow started falling?

The Cabin is a short, first person, point and click, mystery adventure. Why is this cabin here? Better yet, why are you here? Nothing seems right. Your memory is impaired. What's going on?

Awesome game! I played for quite a long time and it's incredible how much detail there is in descriptions when right clicking. I found the journal but have no clue where the satchel would be.
Spoiler
I saw all the hints about it falling off the hook when it broke but it's not anywhere obvious in that area.
[close]

I probably played for about 40 minutes mostly looking for the satchel to no avail. I stopped when the game crashed when I right clicked the stepstool.

Thank you for the positive comments!

On the one hand I wish the bug you found hadn't existed (I guess none of us tried that), but on the other hand, I am glad that you mentioned it. It's been patched (the_cabin_1_0_3.zip)

"Finding the inventory" was a part of the experimental nature of the game. A risky idea, to be sure. One of the things that bothers me when I play point and click adventures is that I tend to just quickly fill my inventory in the first few minutes ("click and grab"). I thought, "What if finding the 'inventory' was the first challenge?" It may be too fiddly of an idea.

Parts of the the first puzzle are a bit fiddly, but there is more to the game than first meets the eye. I heard squeals of delight from some of our play testers, and I hope others will endure.

A comment on what you mentioned in your spoiler tag:
Spoiler

You were on the trail of finding the satchel by looking at the broken hook. The satchel was too heavy, and it broke the hook. The player mentions that there aren't that many other places to store things in the cabin. The satchel is in one of those locations.

The location of the satchel:
Spoiler

The satchel is under the bed. You can look under the bed from the closeup view of the larger chair.

I'm still playing. This game is INCREDIBLE!

Edited to say that i finished. It will be hard for the other entries to beat this one...

OK, I think I've done about as much bug squashing as I'm going to manage. Thanks for the extension, it has many less bugs now and a 'tutorial' type thing that seems to work OK.

Is it bug free? Well put it this way, I will guarantee a bug free playing experience if you refrain from performing any action which causes a bug when you play it!  ;)

Rain & Snow - The Bouncer

Based on everyone's favourite pub admit-em-up 'Not Tonight' you must man the door at one inexplicably popular and really badly drawn pub. I think they're so busy because of the absolute tunes being played every night, but you'll have to make up your own mind about that.

Can you sort the underage from the of-age, the fake photos, unstamped ID's and chancers of this world without issued tickets? Are they even on the guestlist? In the immortal words of the bouncer if "your name's not down, you're not coming in!".

GET IT HERE http://www.mediafire.com/file/zgbempkpdf96gh4/Rain_%2526_Snow_-_The_Bouncer.7z/file

In all seriousness, if you have time to play do let me know of any bugs. Also please do tell me if it's too easy or hard. I think I have a balance of sorts struck but... well...

Looking forward to playing the other entries.  :)
.

I got halfway through level 2 and it crashed. Something about a character not being in a room? I think I get the general idea of the game. How many levels are there?
