The Last Light Post

I seem to be a bit stuck, can't seem to finish it.  :-\

Spoiler

I've got the container and placed it in the right slot, I hope, but when I try to enter the sequence, nothing really happens. Unless I have the wrong sequence, since I haven't figured out the clue about 2 reactions, divide by 2 and use only the even numbers.  (roll)

On the other note, I had no problem finding all passwords. And as soon as I read that it was a lousy bday, I figured that was the password... The one that was took me a bit longer was Simons password, because I was looking for a clue around his computer. But once I stopped to think about it, it was obvious.  (laugh)

The answer is
Spoiler
on William's computer. There's more to the instructions about the sequence there

I'm in a dungeon or cave or something. And i cant seem to click on anything. I'm guessing this is the slaughters mansion/house, since there appears to be pigs hanging up and down. Can't seem to click on anything. Completely stuck now! Hint?   :)

Spoiler
There's an area of the room that if you step on, it triggers the end.

Is that the only ending? if so
Spoiler
there doesn't seem to be much to do at the graveyard? or need for the badge and gun or flashlight

I am sure I will enjoy this episode. I really liked the first one. I noticed that the animation is a bit different in the sense that the character moves in a "frame by frame" basis rather than in smooth animation. It's an interesting effect.

I will start playing again once I finish all the MAGS entries from the October contest

Congratulations everyone! I look forward to playing all of your games! And to everyone who didn't manage to finish by the deadline, please keep working on your entries! You all have great ideas that should definitely be seen through to the end, no matter how long it takes!

Shadow1000 - With regards to my game...

Spoiler
... the hint for William's password can be found in the notes on the workbench in the lab. William mentions he has had a particularly unpleasant day... (My key playtester, AKA my significant other, also got stuck on the same part so perhaps the clue is too oblique!)
[close]

Ok, I finished the game! Thanks for the hint, and thanks for not giving it away completely. Some thoughts on how I got stuck (seeing that the game is being developed still):

Spoiler
First, I did NOT know that the notes on this table or the earlier had more than one page
Second, there are so many dates throughout the game, there's nothing about that date that would have made me think it's the password, even had I seen it in the hour or so that I spent looking for the password last night
Third, I had a bit of trouble entering it because the format is different than what's on the page

Cheers

Regarding the Last Light Post:

Spoiler
does anyone know where the hint is for William's computer? I got the other passwords and the component as well as the sequence.

Sorry Shadow1000, I don't know either why this doesn't work :(

Hey Marion
So if you can confirm that the save isn't right (I don't know if it's any different in the French version; I assume that the scripting is the same and the text is just loaded dynamically) then I think I'll hold off playing until this is resolved. The game looks like fun but I'm willing to wait!

The problem is that Marion just stated that she also has no idea why the saving only in your case isn't working as expected.
So for now there is no way to fix this issue.

One last thing you can do is checking if it is reproducible from within a clean situation.
That means having no agssave.999 file, and therefor no savegame folder at all.

Could you try the following:

  • Remove/delete the folder Wendy Whedon - les Rejets de la Nature in C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\
  • Start the game and once you're at the train perron and you've been given control over the player character (first situation in the game), don't do anything (e.g. walking) but immediately try to save the game.
  • Next, check if the save file agssave.xxx (where xxx is the saveslot you've chosen, between 001 and 004)) has been created in C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\Wendy Whedon - les Rejets de la Nature\

Hey arj0n

Thanks for the advice. I deleted the folder and restarted and saved immediately. The folder came back but only a .999 file.

Hmm...this should be simple! I click Save. There are four slots. I click one...and then what.? Am I missing a step?
I think this is the first puzzle.
It is indeed that simple.
Click Sauver, click a slot, done (no saved-confirmation is shown and you're back in the game)
No clue why this goes wrong.
After you've saved the gae, is there a savefile created in the save folder?

Folder:
C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\Wendy Whedon - les Rejets de la Nature\agssave.xxx
(where xxx is the clicked/selected save slot)

Holy Cow! I opened that folder and there are 123 saved games over the past year and a half alone! Time to clean up a bit.

There is an agssave.999 but I think that one is created by the system or something and isn't a real save? Is that correct?

I spent about 20 minutes playing this game. I think the saving is not working? When I click Save, and then click a slot, it just says "no saved games" and the game does not save. Am I missing something or is this an error?

I usually leave clues for every puzzle in my games. Some clearer and others more hidden (but not so much!) In that case in particular:

Spoiler

-The wife of the librarian says that she doesn't trust anyone except journalists. And we have a journalist near the bar.

-The journalist points to his card on his jacket in the dialog.

-He also likes to dress immaculate as he points in the dialog too.

-We have a stinky lumpy liquid in the Santeria Shop.

The clues are there. Scattered around the scenarios. Like in every adventure game we must see them together. I'm sorry you got stuck there for a long time, Kyriakos!

As far as I know, very few people are stuck there. Have any of you who have played it had problems in that part?

I solved almost all the puzzles on my own. This was one that I could not solve without help. I think in total I needed help for about 5 or 6.

Thanks, I actually figured it out.

I figured out most of the solutions. I think the reason I had so much trouble is because it's hard to know where the hotspots are and the logic of a lot of the puzzles is just not intuitive. Most of it is "well, maybe if I try..."

Spoiler
The only one I needed a hint for was the broom. The ink took probably over an hour but I did get it before the solution was posted.

Anyway, for a first game, really enjoyable graphics and animation. I as well learned a bit about Japanese folklore. Overall a good experience. Good luck in future games!

I did some beta testing on your first game and if this still an option, I'll be more than glad to work on this sequel, let me know by PM and I'll give my email address!

Same here!

I played it today and the graphics, animation, sound, lighting and rain effects are FLAWLESS. The story is fresh and intriguing. Awesome preview.

My only gripe is that I had to download Steam and create a login. I think I had to go through the process 4 times clicking all squares that contain a taxi or a bus and so on just to play the game. I guess if people have Steam then it's not a big deal but otherwise...

Nice graphics. Good adaptation of the theme. I am not really a fan of the interface where you have a menu of verbs on the left side rather than left click - interact; right click - look. Puzzles and gameplay were a bit lacking but if this is your first game, then congrats of getting it out under pressure!

Hi Shadow1000!

Thanks for your feedback, the amount of work that went into that room is actually quite large. Maybe not too noticeable for the player. I learnt a valuable lesson that's for sure. Puzzle is improved a bit (offline). Forexample when the game start. Instead of having to click on broken window to understand she says in the start about a accident. So the player will know instantly that the phonecable needs to be fixed, by having it come into the apartment again! That was a clear mistake on my side. Sometimes you take things for granted. The puzzle overall was too difficult. However you are actually slightly wrong. On the "Jumpin' object" you are able to use the right button on the mouse!
Did you manage to finish the game? Very few did, which is a clear indication i need to work harder for the next game. It should not be as difficult. At least not in the start of a game!

Lesson learned there for sure... ;)

Actually, yes, I did finish the game. I won't say it was easy or obvious but I did solve it.

So, I finished the game! I REALLY enjoyed every minute. It was funny, unpredictable, and great puzzles. Ending was a bit sad but I think that when a game evokes emotion, it speak a lot about the immersiveness.

Good luck in the competition!
