@Shadow1000
Spoiler
Yes, if I use the keypad it takes me to 1980, before my apartment was built, and I end up falling. I'm sure I've missed something, but I can't work out what it is. :-[

Whew...I spent a LOT of time on that one too

Spoiler
look at the vacant lot. that will make you descend. before you go splat on the ground, use the keypad again

I need a hint for A Martyr of Time (I would open thread in hints and tips, but since this game isn't in the database I don't know if that's allowed :-\). I think I need to go downstairs but the game won't let me, so I think I'm missing a step.

Spoiler
I've cracked the code and have the map to Dakota apartments and the date of John Lennon's death. I used the bracelet to go there, but ended up embedded inside my apartment building. (laugh) So I have to go downstairs before I use the bracelet, but I can't work out how to get the game to allow me to do that.

I'm really enjoying the game so far, it's fun puzzling out what to do next! ;-D

I got stuck there for a LONG time too. Did you:

Some great games this month and some REAL last minute entries!

So here are my thoughts:

White Bear Beauty Chlorinde and the Paranormal Parrot by DBoyWheeler[/i]
Pros:

- The idea of a talking parrot-guide was creative.
- Lots of rooms for the length of the game. I happen to like games with rooms to explore.
- Meets the criteria for the contest
- The simple graphics for the backgrounds are pleasing

Cons:

- There didn't seem to be any puzzles in the game. It felt more like "complete the tasks"
- The main character's animation really detracts from the game
- I had it crash repeatedly. I did finish eventually, though

Wilfred:2088 by HanaIndiana
Beautiful game made in a short amount of time! Very original theme. I really enjoyed the puzzles and characters. Voice overs are a major bonus.

A Martyr of Time by Mandle
This one was a close runner up for the nostalgia alone! Trust Mandle to come up with something SO unexpected from beginning to end. It really reminds me of those games I used to play on the PET back in the 80s (ok, I'm old). Great theme and puzzles. I was disappointed when it ended! :( PLEEEEEEASE make it a full-length now that the contest time constraints are gone.

I do want to comment that I did NOT find it easy and it was not a fast play. I did complete it but it took quite the effort (well worth it, though)

Finger of Suspicion by Slasher
Another great entry. It looks like a LOT of detailed work and design went into it, and a LOT of voice acting. I would have preferred to see the voices accompanied by subtitles or other text where the user could skip to move things along. I happen to pick up information better by reading than listening (I know - I wouldn't make a good detective) but otherwise well done.

My vote goes to Wilfred 2088. When I have trouble choosing a winner from some great entries which all have strengths in different areas I go by which game game me the most overall enjoyment while playing and I definitely give that to Wilfred. Well done!

Ok, then do you know why it's crashing or how I can proceed without it crashing?

I hadn't notice it ever crashing at my end.  After visiting the room the first time, the three needed items appear.  I then just pick up the three items, in any order, and return to the room where the secret door is, and a "cutscene" does the rest of the work.

Ok so that answers the question. I only had 2 out of the 3 and went to the room. You might want to check that out and iron out the problem for other players.

Has this game been tested before uploading?

I did test it and it worked fine for me.

I think I'm almost done with mine.  I've completed the rooms and the coding with them.  All that's left is to test it, and then add in some sound effects and music (which oughta be the easiest part).  And I should be done.

[Update] It's FINALLY FINISHED!!!

Here it is:

I enjoyed the game. The puzzles were fun and well-designed for a first game. Really good graphics!

I don't feel that the looping soundtrack really fits the game. I would recommend that you sooner use some good sound effects rather than the looking track.

As far as the verb interface, I'm just not a fan. As you said, there are just so many combinations. In a simple game like this it was ok but in complex games you can sometimes figure out the right solution but get stuck for 45 minutes just because you overlooked the exact combination the game author had in mind.

Looking forward to more releases!

Great game, graphics and puzzles. I had a few laughs.

I don't know if it's a glitch but I got stuck originally because
Spoiler
I went outside and he did not give me the paper. After being stuck for about half an hour, I loaded my game again and then went outside and that time he DID give me the newspaper. Either I missed something the first time or something is inconsistent

Small point: I think you mean "torturous" (relating to torture) rather than "tortuous" (twisting and turning)

Great first release!

I played Fallen Hero last night and I really enjoyed it. I really like the teaming-up of Slasher and Cassiebg.

The overall experience was fun and a great idea. Good story and good execution of the theme. Not particularly challenging in terms of puzzles, the game flowed well and related a great story.

Well done.

It's such a shame that no one else had the time to make a game for December.... :(

Oh well, such is life and a win is a win... (laugh)

Roll on Jan MAG (nod)

Hey, if I won the lottery because I was the only one to enter I wouldn't be complaining!

Congrats...

I completed the game.

The graphics and animation are superb. Great game system once you get the hang of it. I liked the aspect of having the resources management as part of the game.

However, I found that a lot of the game play time was spent waiting for the character to walk across the screen or across the map while making stopovers for podnuts. I think that the overall experience would be more fun if there wouldn't be so much waiting.

Just my opinion...

I finished the demo.

I absolutely LOVE this game. Honestly, is there anything more satisfying than headshotting a zombie?

- Graphics, music, animation all score an A+
- Game system is awesome. Without giving away too much, it's a GREAT combination of story, point and click adventure, well-executed arcade with some horror with huge potential.
- The puzzles, while not original, are good. My only concern is that the backgrounds are VERY busy so looking for items to interact with to solve the puzzles required a lot of hunting with the mouse. As well, the items only become available when they are needed or relevant. Which means that you have to start doing the mouse hunting all over again at every stage. Perhaps the graphics could make them stand out a bit more? Just a thought.

Someone compared it to Resident Evil. My own thoughts are more inline with Silent Hill.

I am looking forward to an awesome release. Good luck!

I am having trouble figuring out how to restore a saved game? Does anyone know?

My comments:

First, as noted, the graphics and effects and sounds are excellent. As far as gameplay, I don't think this was intended so much as a traditional puzzle-solver or story game but rather as a proof of concept to get started with AGS where the player goes through the motions of the author's hobby, using inventory and a hint system and so on. As such, it was a nice experience.

Unless I'm wrong I don't think that any player on his/her own would be able to get through the game without help from the cat. I did play around a bit to try to figure out what to do next by trial and error rather than using the cat for instructions and I did get a few tasks done but I don't think there would be any way to complete the game that way.

Anyway, I hope to see more releases from this author!

I played this last night. Graphically excellent; definitely sad and depressing.

Good job!

Ok, I have the brush, the fully charged flashlight, the key, the metal bar, dynamite with lighter, chewed gun, electric cable, coin, screwdriver, broken wrench, shovel, metallic object, taped bottles and the wooden board.

I have no idea how to get the rope (I thought the metal bar would move the debris, than the dynamite, than the wooden board, then the shovel, I can't unstuck this ropeeee). Also the statue is cracked but not broken. I have no idea how to climb the ashtray and get the exit sign. ???
Edit: ok, eventually I won (well...)! Nice game!

I had trouble with that exact problem.

PULL the rope.

I finished playing this game and I feel I really need to comment.

First, I am absolutely amazed at the adaptation of the old "escape the room" theme. The story really draws the player in.

Next is the puzzles themselves. The difficulty is exactly in that sweet spot where the game progresses so long as you keep plugging away at it without the puzzles getting frustrating.  What a wonderful combination of traditional puzzles with a lot of fresh and surprising material.

It goes without saying that the stunning graphics just puts that overall polish on the game that makes the entire experience memorable.

The only thing you might want to add if you have the time is that some actions cause the screen to go dark and then come back and the action is completed. I know that it's a lot easier to imply the action rather than put in the animation but it might be a nice touch if you put in the appropriate animation.

Otherwise, a very impressive job. I look forward to more games from the authors.

Have YOU ever wanted to learn the secret history of the united states moon landing?

Now you can, in...well, "Fake the moon landing RELOADED!"

Just be warned, things get pretty strange here!

(Contains swearing and rare violence)

Check out the game on itch.io, or direct download here

This was originally a game jam game. It had some serious flaws and defiantly ended up being a stranger beast than I set out to make.

Now it's RELOADED with major bug fixes, graphical changes, and better voice lines here and there.

Enjoy!

I played through the game a few times to

see the different endings. I had the game crash the first time I played when I went to the room to the right of the film crew, where the actors were auditioning. I was wondering if it's possible to hit a dead end in the game by purchasing the wrong items and then running out of money or is there a way to continue even if you make the wrong choices in the store?
