Re: the wording. Given that no tentacle kissed the same tentacle twice, how many kisses in total took place?

If you're that specific about it, then the question already gives away the solution offered by the hint in the computer. I only took issue with that it starts with plural and then "it", which is singular

Ok, and you can vote honestly if you like. What would be the best question for the kissing riddle? I can change it if it confuses some players.

Sure, where do I vote? I hadn't realized it was a contest entry. The only contest I follow is the MAGS.

For the kissing question, it's important that the user understands that the question is how many kisses took place in total. If you read the wording, there is no antecedent for the pronoun "it". Do you see why that's confusing? I actually got it once I knew what was being asked.

I was checking the other thread every day. I totally forgot there is hints and tips. Without heltenjon's message I wouldn't have seen this at all. Thank you heltenjon. Of course I don't mind :)

Thank you guys for playing  :) And sorry for the torment  :-D But simple puzzles are boring I think  ;-D

Hmmmm box 6. as heltenjon said and..
Spoiler
"correlation between number and suit" you have to collect letters from the names of the suits of the cards. which letters? you have to count. But be careful, you won't get the right word right away.

Yes it is poorly worded, The question is really "How many kisses in total were there?", given that each tentacle kissed all the others just once (no repeats).

I am still struggling with box 6, alas.

Ok, solved! Only box 6 left :)

Thank you
#86
I only have 6 and 7 left.

Spoiler
So, what I know about 6, completely from hints:
- It's a cipher puzzle
- There's a correlation between number and suit
- German edition has 4 cards whereas English has 5

I really don't have anything to work with. I guess it's a 5 letter word. Is it something found in the room? I don't even know what to ask!

The wording in puzzle 7 is poor. It starts off saying that everyone kissed one another and the question is how many times did IT kiss? what is "it"? A specific tentacle? then it should be 7. If it's all collectively then it's 8 tentacles kissing 7 times so it's 56. Neither is right, nor guesses like 49 or 64. I think the wording is misleading. What am I looking for?

The purple tentacle has green suction cups, while the green tentacle's are yellow and need to be painted green so you can use them.  The green hair dye was the middle one in the desk drawer, so if you picked them up sequentially it's the middle one in inventory. Use that one.  :-D

The actual puzzle requires no colour reference.

Ok I actually did paint them but didn't know if that's part of the solution. That's all I wanted to know, thanks!

I don't think I have even a guess for the boxes wiggy was asking about, even with the computer's hints and the ones you provided. I hope the game gets easier soon!
Does that mean you need hints for box 2 and 6?

Box 2:
Spoiler
Nothing in the room is without purpose.
[close]

Box 6:
Spoiler
If you start the game in German, you may notice that this puzzle changes. There is a reason for that.

Yes, I am stuck on those. I'm going to try to continue the game later tonight. I only have 5 more boxes. I think I'll try to put together the hints here and on the computer and see if I can make any progress.

One question:
Spoiler
do you need to be able to tell colours for the one where you put the suckers on? I already painting it but if colour is part of the solution then I have no chance at this one

Hiya Shadow 1000,

You are so close, you are on the right track - I hope this helps:

Spoiler
Don't use the decimal point in the weight

The books have stripes on them - 1 to 5 stripes

Your maths is correct, but there are 2 numbers in every display i.e. 99 etc.
[close]

Hi Wiggy

Thanks, your hints helped!!
Spoiler
the solution with the stripes makes sense. I was on the right track but missed that detail. As far as leaving out the decimal....well, I'm not sure how anyone would guess that other than a lot of trial and error. I guess if it had a number pad without decimal points or only allowed the correct number of digits I would have gotten it.
[close]

Anyway, I solved all 3 with your help and I just finished the matching puzzle with just the hint from my computer

I find that I'm using my phone's camera a lot for reference for this game.

Thanks again!

I am absolutely loving this game. It is not easy by any means but I've actually gotten a good number of keys without hints.

I have 2 questions about puzzles that I THINK I have the solution but still can't crack:

1. The apple puzzle.
Spoiler
I weighed the apples on the scale; that's not the solution. I divided by 2/3 because there are 3 apples in inventory but 2 on the iphone screen. That's not the solution either. Am I working missing something...?
[close]
You did exactly what I did.  :-D There is another way. You may not want to look at the following hint until trying more stuff on your own. Vague:
Spoiler
You need to do someting in the room before solving the puzzle.
[close]
More direct:
Spoiler
Can you bring the number of apples to the correct amount in any way?

Quote2. The colour puzzle.
Spoiler
I ASSUME that the colours need to be arranged left to right as per the books on the shelf. However, I really can't tell what the colours of the books are or what colours the bars on the screen are. Am I guessing wrong or is there another way to solve this without being able to tell the colours visually?
[close]
Spoiler
Yes and no. You need to know what colours the bars are in order to sort them in the right order. I'll check it and edit in the information in this post.
[close]
Edit: Here's the colour info for the colour blind:
Spoiler
The bars, from top to bottom: blue, yellow, red, purple, green. The books, left to right: purple, red, green, yellow, blue.
[close]

Unfortunately that didn't help :(

Spoiler

1. I took care of one of the apples and weighed the other two, but that's not the answer.

2. I arranged the bars as per your colour description on the books but it's a no go.

And one more: Box 11

No matter how or if you use BEDMAS, 9 X 6 / 2 -  7 = 20. But that's not the solution. What am I missing?

I don't think I have even a guess for the boxes wiggy was asking about, even with the computer's hints and the ones you provided. I hope the game gets easier soon!

Thank you

My feedback:

Flash McCoy by ddavey1983:
Spoiler
Great adaptation of the theme. Good story-segment and appropriate-length for the contest. One of the challenges of creating an entry under time constraints is how to create something complete enough to be playable while providing enough fun for the player to have a good experience. This game really meets all the criteria. Just to round out my comments: lots of puzzles, but on the easier side; impressive graphics and animation.

The Death of Oceanspirit Dennis by Ponch:
Spoiler
I kinda got what was going on in the opening but got lost in the dialogue that seemed to really drag on so I ended up skipping it. I was able to jump from the first smiley-face-in-the air to the second and then to a third one. After about 5 minutes I asked myself if I was enjoying watching the character fall just to do it again and again. I answered myself "no" so I stopped playing

My vote:
Spoiler
Flash McCoy. The only thing that could be improved would be to tweak up the puzzle difficulty a notch but otherwise, very well done!

I am having trouble downloading THE DEATH OF OCEANSPIRIT DENNIS. When I click the download link, I see a tab open in my browser and then it just shuts down. I suppose it could be my anti-virus but I don't see any warnings. Is there an alternative link or does anyone have any advice?
Really? Weird. I just tested it on my Win 11 laptop and my tablet and it worked. I'm not sure what's causing the problem. It's a direct link to my server. Maybe try "right click and save as"?

Ha! That actually worked. Chrome tried to block it but there was an option to keep the download so I have the game in my hands now. I hope to play it sometime tonight. Thank you!

Nice to see people playing this MAGS games!  :)
I can only speak for myself but any feedback/thoughts are always welcome!
Did you see the comments that I posted a week and a half ago?

Yes, and since it's my first MAGS it's much appreciated!  :-D

Awesome! I'm sure that some more happy players will share feedback in due time...

It seems that this month's entries were about quality, not quantity :-D 2 great entries!

My thoughts:

Another Museum by Glurex
Spoiler
Funny backstory. Great graphics and pleasing music. The best part of this entry is the puzzle design. I love when there is a good variety of puzzles ranging from dialogues, finding items, codes, inventory items and more. The difficulty of the puzzles is perfect for this type of entry and the length of the game is right on for the story and context.

My only complaint was that I feel that the answer to the riddle didn't really match the riddle and I needed to ask for help. Otherwise, very polished and well done.

The Museum by ddavey1983
Spoiler
Comes as advertised! Lots of history-hopping fun by solving riddles about the British monarchy. I confess that I probably knew less than 10% of the history of most of those monarchs and really enjoyed the experience of learning while playing this game. I just wish I had more time to research and read up more. Big compliments about the incredible amount of time and effort it must have taken to not just get the pictures, but getting a few lines of information on each ruler over a 1000 year span, and then converting it into a rhyming riddle and some jokes.

As much as the experience was really good, I found it to take a lot longer than I had expected. Gameplay took about 1 hour but at times it felt a bit stretched out and repetitive because essentially, the game consists of finding information and matching it with the riddle.

My vote went to
Spoiler
Another Museum because I felt much more engaged. There's just more fun when you have multiple puzzles going on at the same time with different approaches to rather than one way of solving each puzzle in a completely linear game.
[close]

As I said, both great entries and it's clear that a TON of work went into each. Congrats!

It's a pretty fun game, but I think I got stuck...

Spoiler
I have collected the Roman coin, two to go. I have opened the panel in the Chinese room that prompts me to type something in, I'm guessing it has something to do with the scroll I picked up in the Inca room. I have tried several words related to the Chinese template guardian statues: dog, lion, shishi, foo, fu, foo dog, fu dog and a few others but that doesn't seem to be it.
I also have the UV light which I think has something to do with the wall at the back of the Inca room, but I see nothing out of ordinary when I move it around.
[close]
Any hints? :)

1.
Spoiler
The answer to the riddle is key. I know, it doesn't guard anything; the lock does. I had to get this one from glurex. The only way this answers the riddle is that it has teeth

2.

The UV light is for Diana's scroll.. Remember she said something about shining a light on the scroll?

Jon beat me to what I was going to say:

It took me about 15 minutes. Really well designed and fun to play. I had a bit of trouble because it SEEMS that some of the navigation is marked by dots and some you have to click around to find a new area. I had the same question as Jon as well.

And sorry about that shadow1000...it was nothing personal, I just thought of the joke and had to pick somewhere! Looks really nice in the picture actually.

Oh, I didn't take it personally :) There's definitely more to Toronto than that one skyline picture! Anyway, I had a good time playing and lots of laughs. Cheers
