You don't need to go into the mine to scare the doctor.
Spoiler
In dialogues with the Barkeep he will talk about the doctor going into "The Zone" - I can't remember if this is when he has another beer, it probably is - he will start to mutter things describing the monster in his dreams.  Also, it's not a picture, but a doll - remember those little dolls in the back room of Daniel's shack?  He will make you a bespoke doll (it's in a dialogue with him but easy to forget when you get into the rest of the game) - go back and ask Daniel, you choose the materials he makes it from which should be done to match the doctor's description.  Daniel's shack is the location where you start the game, talking to the big viking.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, CaptainD. That one hint allowed me to finish the demo. I think I took the hint of

too literally and I was so focused on that that I never thought to

As I said in the main forum, the talent and effort that went into this demo is highly impressive. You should all be proud of your work even if the final release never got to see the light of day.

I just finished playing. All I can say is hats off to you guys for such a stunningly excellent job. I think that we are all sad that the reality is that it will never see completion but nevertheless, an INCREDIBLE job.

My vote:

Spoiler
I had to vote for Graveyard. To me that's the clear-cut winner. Club of Evil was a GREAT contender and would have received my vote otherwise.

When I see a MAGS game that is so complete, so polished, has "extras" such as multiple characters, well-designed puzzles and had it been done as a stand alone game rather than a MAGS entry with a time constraint, it just says "vote for me!".

Well done!

Hints & Tips / The Journey of Iesir
Thu 06/10/2016 03:53:35
I've been playing for a while and finally hit a dead end. There are so many loose ends and I don't know what comes next.

Spoiler
Right now it looks like I need to get the book from the roof. That would require fixing the ladder. Using the piece of drainpipe doesn't work, so I probably need the truncheon. For that I probably need the test results from the doctor. To get that, I think I need to draw a picture of the monster to scare the doctor. For that I think I need to get into the mine to see the monster and possibly save the girl. However the rocks are blocking the mine. So I have to scare Bjorn to get the spell book. I THINK that I need to use the drainpipe and make him think that there's a demon but I don't know where the other end of the pipe is. It said that it's on a roof somewhere, which takes me back to needing to fix the ladder.

I will note that I have the hat and coat and feather dipped in coffee.

So, that's where I'm stuck. I know I made a lot of assumptions and some might be wrong.

Does anyone have a hint, please?

I just finished this game.

Awesome concept. Beautiful art. Fits the theme perfectly. Well-designed puzzles. The fact that you have to control three characters to solve puzzles pushes the quality of the game past the typical MAGS entry.

Well done!

I finished this game a few days ago. I really enjoyed it and I want to recommend it to all. I am surprised that no one has played it and commented yet.

The game is well-designed and outstanding in all areas. One of my favourite parts of the game was the graphics. There are MANY rooms (more about this soon) and each one is just beautiful.

Second, I LOVE exploring! There are so many areas and rooms and they become more and more as you get through the game. I think that having such a huge game broken into smaller sections of 8-10 rooms each and navigating with a map is an excellent design choice. Some big games require WAY too much walking.

The story was good and developed at a nice pace. Nothing ground-breaking in terms of the story  but it did develop in stages. In my opinion, a huge game should have a huge plot :) but in this case all the other strengths of the game worked well enough to make me overlook that.

The puzzles were pretty good. I had fun solving them. There's a good variety of puzzles ranging from dialogues to inventory puzzles with a lot of emphasis on picture puzzles and word puzzles. If these are your thing then you will really like this game. If not, then there are still a good range of puzzles and mini-games that there's something for everyone.

I do want to mention that I really needed the walkthrough a lot. I found myself completely stumped a lot and even when I used the walkthrough I found myself saying "huh? I would never have guessed that one". I have to confess that although I really enjoyed this game as much as I did, the fact that I found myself that stuck that often did diminish the fun I had playing.

Another thing that I wasn't crazy about is the dialogues. I can't put my finger on it but the way people talk in the game often just did not seem in character.

Over all, as I said, the game represents a huge effort over the course of a number of years and the result is great. I am looking forward to your next release!

No, I haven't figured out how to get the flint and steel yet.

Ok, did you deal with the two guys making the TV program? It's hard to tell what point you are at specifically. Here's a hint:

They want you to dress like a native. You have to make a grass skirt for that

Reading this has absolutely made my day. Thanks for your feedback. I agree with all the points you made. If I do another project (I told myself I wouldn't, but I've already been drawing backgrounds) I'll try improve those ares. Can you recall where in the game

I just finished playing it.

I am completely impressed by this game. I cannot get over that it's a first game.

- To me, the strongest part is the puzzles. They are very well designed and at a perfect level of challenge. I definitely found myself almost stuck a number of times but was able to solve all of them on my own with some thinking and persistence other than one that required a hint. Some of the puzzles have quite a number of steps and parts to them and the effort to design something that intricate is just amazing.

- A great attraction of the game is the humour. I have to make it clear that it's not for everyone. There is a lot of crude humour in this game. Although there is a warning in the announcement post, people considering the game should know that there is a lot of sexual references, crude humour, drug use and genital references in the game. Now that I got that out of the way, I found myself laughing a LOT during the game. Well done :D

- Third place was the plot. For the most of it, it was quite intriguing and made me want to proceed to find out what happens next. The NPCs in the game had strong personalities and interesting relationships between them. You've really built quite a mini-world around the protagonist's life, past and present. Interesting blend of silliness and thought-provoking soul searching.

My only complaint about the plot is that at times things got to be a bit TOO weird and desultory.
Spoiler
Things were linear and made sense up to a point but then they just took a left turn and got crazy. Some people might like this but it was just not my preference.
[close]

- Graphics, sound, music, effects were quite adequate.

Just to let you know that there are a few small things to be cleaned up, such as key items that do not have a description when you point to them, a label "hotspot 3" or something that should be cleaned up and
Spoiler
one place where Dan's attire changes back and forth for no reason
[close]
. I found that some transitions between rooms difficult to find or navigate.

In conclusion, anyone who does not take offense to crude humour will find this game to be quite complete and enjoyable in every way. Once again, absolutely amazing for a first game. I really hope to see more games from his author. Perhaps a sequel!

Well done!

I haven't gotten far in this game and I'm stuck.

Spoiler
I don't know how to make Tom's Tonic. Looking at the note in the box:
- 1 part clear and russian well, that sounds like vodka but the only thing I have clear is the water so I'm guessing it means the water???
- 1 part creamy and sweet I guess the christmas eggnog is creamy? the chocolate liqueur sweet? so which is it???
- 1 part courage I guessed this means either the whiskey or the dutch lager.

So far none of my guesses helped me make the tonic. I also notice that each line is some words in another colour. I don't know if those correspond to anything to help solve this

I hope someone can help me here. Thank you

I just played the game. The difficulty of the puzzles should be easy enough for most players. But the point of the game is to evoke the writer's feelings of despair and I have to say that it really does so.

Really well done.

Does the game give an error message on crash?
If so, can you send me a screenshot of it (or just the full text of the error message) via PM.

EDIT: I looked into the code and found at least one bug in it, which has now been fixed and an updated game released.

It's not clear from your message if you mean that you corrected the code for this specific error or another error but if it helps you:

Spoiler
The message it issues is that the character is not in the room. I am going to GUESS that the code used to move the tentacle coming from the ceiling during the first time you needle him is being used this time around as well, but the tentacle is not present so it crashes. That's why I tried needling him from another room and it worked

Anyway, I finished the game and it is excellent in every area. Since there is a contest in progress I don't want to comment to much so as not to affect voting but I do want to say that I enjoyed it thoroughly and recommend that people play it, even aside from the contest.

I'm absolutely LOVING this game in every way. However the game keeps crashing so I can't continue.

Here's where I'm at:
Spoiler
I went to floor 3, pushed the prompt to continue the chair movement, came back down and Mr. 217 is jittery. I used the needle to sedate him and then the game crashes

I hope this can be fixed!

Edited to report:

Spoiler
I figured out a way around it. I used the syringe from another room

But I do want to report the crash :)
