Gee whiz...thanks for that. There's no way I would have guessed that. I don't quite get why that's logical but oh well...

Anyway, I finished the game. Thanks for the hints.

The filter:

The diagram doesn't show the correct order, you'll need more information.

Have a look a Parker's computer, especially her notes.

Now you know the order (don't forget to swap the parts mentioned in the diagram), but you'll still have to figure out where to put the casing.

It's the third part.

I'm stuck at the filter as well.

Spoiler
I see the diagram and I tried it top down (i.e. casing on top) and then bottom up (casing on bottom). I tried it both ways with and without the indicated swap. I tried it with using just one of each and with using 3 of the items that you can use 3 times but nothing works.

I just finished the game. That was very different and very fun. The puzzles were not particularly difficult so things moved along at a nice pace. It's clear that there was a lot of work that went into the game: cool effects, the map was a nice touch and a lot of small "extras" like the viewer money really rounded this game out.

Well done.

I finished the game and I really enjoyed it. Here are my thoughts:

OVERVIEW

Follow two antique dealers on a modern-day adventure that follows the steps of a 19th century adventurer on the quest for the legendary Book of Thoth. This game features attractive 3D graphics, a good variety of puzzles and a compelling plot. The game is approximately a medium-length game

STRONG POINTS OF THE GAME

-The strongest areas of this game are the plot and length of plot and the graphics. I found the plot to be captivating and compelling. It had some good twists, there was conflict and urgency and of course a happy ending :) Remember, a plot unfolding is what makes a player want to get through the puzzles. Too slow or too simple or too complicated will disengage the player. The graphics were pleasing to look at and attract me to the game. They made the game immersive and they fit perfectly.

- The puzzles were good. I liked the balance and variety between inventory, dialogue and object puzzles. Most of the puzzles were clever and original and at a difficulty that is just right.

- I liked the personalities of the playable characters. Some of their quips made me laugh but in general this is not a game where I found myself laughing most of the time. It's just not that type of adventure.

SOME THINGS TO CONSIDER FOR NEXT GAME

- Although the puzzles were mostly done well, some of them expected the user to perform certain actions in literally every room hoping to figure out where to use a certain item without any clue as to why. While a certain amount of guesswork or "try everything" is expected while playing a game, I'd recommend limiting those or at least limiting the options to the user when faced with that kind of puzzle.

- Another criticism I have is that although I said that the puzzles were a good balance in types of puzzle, I feel that there were too many object puzzles. I have to admit that I happen not to be a fan of object puzzles. The first three were actually fun to solve so I didn't mind. But somewhere between number eight and ten I felt it was just too much for my taste.

- The game would have a bit more polish if the grammar and spelling would be proofread. Someone pointed out that the conditional perfect is "would have", not "would of".

- Lastly, a number of puzzles assume that the player has good colour vision and that different monitors will show colours similarly. Like many, I can't discern many colours and found several puzzles to be impossible as a result. As the author, you have the right to limit your audience to people with excellent colour vision but in a future game you may want to consider providing other ways to solve those puzzles to include the minority of players who will struggle.

CONCLUSION

Echoes of the Past scores very highly in the areas that make a good adventure game. It's clear that a lot of work went into this game and Amanta4ray's talent really shows. I recommend this game to anyone looking for the next hot AGS thriller!

Congrats to the author and I think we're all waiting for the sequel!

The bottom three colored balls are the bottom three scarabs...the top two colored balls are the top two scarabs. I placed a scarab in
the middle of the pendant so you know that it goes with the scarabs.....

             Bottom left...purple       (winged statue)
             Bottom middle...red       (skeleton hand)
             Bottom right....green     (bells)
             Top left...aqua              (slot machine)
             Top right...blue             (statue with food)

Thank you for the solution.

If I may suggest that in the walkthrough, you include the name of the colour rather than just display the colour item assuming that the player can reference them visually. Many people either have poor colour vision or monitors with compromised colour definition and that makes it impossible to solve, even with the walkthrough.

I'm at the point of trying to correctly place the scarabs. According to the walkthrough, the clue to this is the group of balls around the scarab found on the cat statue. I don't see any connection. I'm trying to use the walkthrough to do the placement and I'm finding it impossible to figure out visually how to place them.

Please help! I'm also interested in figuring out how people are supposed to have gotten this one, even with the walkthrough.

Did you buy anything in the museum gift store?  If not...you need to locate a picture in your journal that's on one of the postcards.  To do that you will need to use your magnifying lens.

Can you please elaborate?
Spoiler
I used the magnifying glass on the postcards ("I don't want to damage the merchandise") and on the pictures in the journal ("I don't see anything special in this picture") and nothing happened. Where am I supposed to be using the magnifying glass to solve this?

Spoiler
The two puzzles are somewhat related in that you have to do the tile one first in order to open the door.  The answer to that one can be found on a scroll in the guard's locker back at camp.

That is VERY clever! Thanks for the tip. I don't think I would ever have noticed that but great puzzle!

Also, make sure that you have played and won the card game with the guard in the tent.

Thanks for that. That allowed me to continue with the second puzzle as well. Where was the hint to the user to use the item you are referring to in this specific room?

Spoiler
You gave the solution to the locket puzzle. I actually did not realize that I could open it because I didn't understand the hint in the journal so I assumed the rest of the hint would come later in the game. Now I do not have access to the locket in my inventory. Will I be able to open it later in the game or will I be stuck because I didn't do it in order?

Lastly, do you mind if I send you a private question/concern I have about the game?

Thanks again

I'm finally stuck.

Spoiler
I'm in the temple of Set-en-et. I put the five picture boxes into the slots on the altar but I don't see any key to which picture has to show on each box. As well, I don't know how to do the tile puzzle on the other altar. I got the tile from the scorpion (I assume it's related?) but I don't see a key anywhere showing what tiles go where. If these two puzzles are related in that you have to do one to solve the other then please just provide a hint for one and I'll solve the other.

Thank you

Good catch...even my three beta-testers didn't notice that one!!!

I did fix that and uploaded new...many thanks!!

Most welcome, maybe you can do with a fourth for your next game ;)

I do want to say that I'm enjoying it so far. I love the graphics (although the high heels look like they hurt as she walks!) and although I'm near the beginning, it's looking really good. I'll post comments once completed.

Thanks everyone for the positive comments....I really appreciate it.  As far as any spelling errors and such, I tried to get them all, but you know how that goes.

I encountered a spelling error that can interfere with game play.

Spoiler
In the book "DuPontneuf" is spelled "DuPontnuef". Since doing the search is sensitive to exact spelling, I had to guess that it was just a typo and I was able to continue that way. But this should really be corrected

Also: it's "toilet", not "toliet"

Here are my 2 cents upon completing the game:

The Visitor 3 is a fitting sequel to the highly-popular The Visitor and The Visitor 2. Join the stalwart Commander Moss on his latest adventure; this time he is tasked with rescuing survivors of a disabled ship.

The list of things I liked about the game:
- As in the first two games, the graphics and visual appeal are excellent.
- The game is highly entertaining, and builds on the success of the previous two games. It offers new material to keep things fresh yet draws from familiarity from the previous games. I will admit that I started laughing involuntarily as soon as Moss made his debut in this game.
- Possibly highest on the list would be the puzzles. Every player appreciates a different difficulty level, but I think that the level of this game is perfect. I only needed one hint from the hints forum (the puzzle with the lights) but otherwise completed the game independently without ever crossing the threshold of frustration.
- To add to the previous point, it's one thing to create solvable puzzles using elements that we are familiar with such as the traditional key, shovel, box of matches and so on. But to present abstract, unexpected elements and still be completely solvable is just genius
- Further in the creativity, I really liked the different playable characters. It just adds another dimension to the complexity of a puzzle and keeps things interesting.
- Lastly, great character personalities. Every playable and NPC in the game had distinct personalities and was true to character. All loveable and funny :)

My only two small negative points:
- I think that for the length of the game, a more complex plot would be more appropriate. In my opinion, the reward for solving a puzzle should be for the story to unfold a bit more, or at least every few puzzles. Rewarding a player with another puzzle does not make the game as compelling. Some might argue that the fact that this game has an unusually high entertainment value because of the humour and environment might replace the fact that the story is fairly simple but this is something to consider.
- Lastly, near the end, things got a bit TOO abstract
Spoiler
in the vent system

that it bordered on being disengaging.

My conclusion:
Nicky did it again. As I said last time, the author really clinched it this time in the most challenging aspects of creating an excellent adventure game. The perfect environment, plot and puzzles are executed masterfully, building on the success of the first games making this gem another must-play.

Your efforts were well worth it and we're all waiting for Moss to return!
