Hehe; I'm addicted to that thing, now - I can't stop rewatching it.

Anyhoo, here's something a little more christmassy - and as a bonus, it will be outrageously offensive to the more devoted christians among you!

Evidently, Annie has the coolest name in the world:

http://www.kabalarians.com//Female/shadow.htm

But I digress; I tried both long and short versions of my name, and found:

(long)
Quoteyou have a great love of nature and the out-of-doors, and could have a desire to be in an occupation which takes you outdoors and involves you with the products of the earth. All the finer things of life and beauties of nature are an inspiration to you and you are attracted to the mysteries of nature. Difficulty in expression results in your being too positive, blunt, and candid in speech. Although you are easily offended by others, you do not show it. You crave affection and understanding, but rarely find it as others do not understand you and accuse you of being cool and aloof.

I.  Think.   Not.

and

(short, the one I use most often)
QuoteYour name has given you an idealistic nature with a desire to help others. Your initiative often causes you to be the first to act when you see a need. Since you are impressionable and receptive, you feel the misfortunes of others very keenly. However, this name makes it awkward for you to express your deeper thoughts and feelings with finesse and diplomacy to the extent that your candid, sometimes blunt, manner of speaking creates misunderstandings with others. Being somewhat self-centred, you learn through your own experiences, as you rarely take advice from others. Yet, you are sensitive and very easily hurt and offended. You long for praise and appreciation for your efforts, but others find it difficult to understand you.
Well at first I was entirely satisfied with the conception that I'm sensitive to other's problems, and that I had the excuse of phrasing things badly and thus creating misunderstandings with others to explain how hateful I can often be; then, I slapped myself across the face and realised that, no, I'm actually just a complete and utter cunt.

Quite clever how they say things that they know people would like to believe about themselves (even if they may seem, on first glance, negative), yet (in my case, at least) may not be even remotely true.  They almost had me.

God, Yufster is such an idiot; everyone point at Yufster and laugh.

Don't use hotmail, it's crap.

An especially unpleasant experience can be cause by a man who is not considerate enough to relieve himself beforehand; having a potent cocktail of piss and cum crawling down your throat, it's taste clinging to your lungs, is not the most pleasant feeling, I can tell you.

I mean, that's what I assume.

I've never tasted piss and cum without vomit.

Can someone please attempt to justfy to me how they managed to spend money on one of those fucking add-on packs?  Or even more than one (as some of you seem to have managed).  I mean, seriously; they just contain a few extra graphics/sounds and that's it. They'd be just about acceptable as freely downloadable patches, but for £20 (or $30 or however much they cost in la-la land) it's just inexcusable.

Don't get me wrong, the original game was fine as an expansion upon the whole Little Computer People idea, but EA and Maxis should be choked on their own shit for the way that they've milked it up to now.

i dont know what the fuck you ppl are talking about when you say 1337

Ok, calm down, if you can't say it without swearing, you probably shouldn't say it at all.
But CJ!  If we didn't have things we were unable to articulate wihtout swearing, we'd have no excuse to swear at all!  That would be horrible!

I second Yak; very odd film, but very amusing also.  Overall, me like very much (I'm sure that you're ecstatic to hear that I liked it), but as you asked for critiques, I tried to pick out a couple of things that irked me:

Firstly, although it's obviously not a serious work, it does seem a mite unusual to try and have a 'OMFG it was teh him after all!' plot twist in a 9-minute film (although that might not be what you were going for and I'm just an idiot), and it felt a little unwieldy in the film itself; I think the short length combined with the amount of plot you had also caused the dialogue to feel a little too blatantly exposition-heavy, as well.

Secondly, and indeed finally, in the part where the guy (you?) pulls out the knife and the sound seems to cut out to give way to the BGM, it's somewhat jarring when the Opera music suddenly quietens for a couple of lines of dialogue and then goes right back up again; it's a pity, because there was a nice use of the camera in that sequence, and one might have got 'lost in the moment' (for lack of a better term; at least a better term that my idiot mind can muster) and it would have been more of a surprise when the guy-who-might-be-you-although-I'm-not-sure got shot in the head.  Nitpicking, and something that probably only would ever bother me, but it's the only other thing I could think of.

Anyway, sorry if I didn't phrase that too well, but I hope it helps a little (doubtful, as I'm such an idiot).

One thing that I felt was always lacking in the LSL games was a comedic element; now I know that that's not always appropriate, but I think some humour, even if it was just the odd quip every now and again, might have worked suprisingly well in that particular series of games - maybe you could try and put some in your thingy?

...how the hell she got a crap load of money to fly all the way to Japan and get the sword and back..
Sylph stopped saying.

I think that was probably one of the many anachronisms in the film, like how she managed to stay in that carpark for thirteen hours without being caught, or how a sword-maker managed to forge what was alledgedly his finest katana in a single month (although magically managing to get all that money wouldn't actually qualify an anachronism, but anyway); this is a ''Movie movie', according to Mr. Tarrantino, so stuff like that doesn't matter.

Quote from: Yufster the Psychadet on Sat 08/11/2003 14:10:16As for Craig... he was the voice of Asterix for a few of the animated movies (Asterix and Obelix) wasn't he? I remember thinking how shittily cast he'd been. He may kick ass, but Asterix?! What the hell were they smegging thinking!?
I could be going mad, but as I recall those were french movies and Craig (I like hpow we're both on a first name basis with him now) only provided the voice for the english-language re-dubs; you often find with re-dubs that they'll either get the cheapest actors they can find, or the biggest celebrity they can afford (that that was Craig Charles gives you an idea of how low their budget must have been) regardless of there appropriateness for the role.

I have only two words on Robot Wars and its future:

American... Gladiators...
'...no, you see what happened was the royal servant dropped his glasses, which caused Michael Fawcett to drop the bowl of fruit he was holding in sheer surprise; he bent over to pick it up, and Prince Charles lowered the banana he had managed to salvage to the same level as his crotch out of dissapointment for the shoddy work of the two; with impaired vision, this appeared to the royal aide as if something totally different was taking place, and he fainted backwards.  His posterior served to cushion the blow as he hit the floor, which is why he felt as though he had been anally raped when he woke up.  We have figured it out, go back to bed Great Britain, your government has figured out how it all transpired.  Go back to bed Great Britain, your government is in control again - here, here's Robot Wars; watch this, shut up.  Go back to bed Great Britain, here's Robot Wars...' And so forth.

I don't quite know why I felt the need to type all that.

Quote from: AlexisVale on Sat 08/11/2003 04:23:17I used to watch Robot Wars for pure amusement until it got on my nerves. It's best to just mute and watch. I guess it's kind of like Junkyard Wars (I love that show).
Funny how you mention Junkyard Wars, because that also started out as an English show; it was called 'Scrapheap' (later renamed to 'Scrapheap Challenge') and was also hosted by a Red Dwarf star - Robert Llewellyn, who played Kryten (and also the title role in The Feeble Files).

Well, I think it's funny, anyway.

I'm really starting to have difficulty taking sides here, and that annoys me; Vel was being a bit of a cunt at first, yes, but this sort of thing really is going too far, IMO.

Still funny, though.

Quote from: Highwaygal on Fri 07/11/2003 17:42:20Oh yeah, and the american show that Robot Wars is based upon might be Battlebots.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
I don't quite know why I bothered to check this, but the imdb has Robot Wars starting in '98, and Battlebots in '00; consider yourself well and truly corrected.

I think that the competition itself started in the US, but the UK were the first to make a show out of it.

I don't think it's really that popular anymore; it used to be pretty succesful in a the-simpsons-has-just-finished-and-I-can't-be-arsed-changing-the-channel sorta way, but I think it's mostly burnt out by now.

The channel who made it have recently tried launching a couple of similar shows in pretty much the same timeslot, though; 'Time Commanders', which is basically a group of people playing Rome: Total War for 45 minutes (actually much more entertaining than it sounds, but that isn't really saying that much) and 'Fightbox', which I haven't seen, but looks kinda like a televised beat-'em-up with characters designed by the contestants.  I am assured that it is awful.

I don't quite know why I felt the need to share that with you, but anyway.

(PS, DS; Clarkson only presented the very first series, IIRC)
