Well, I'm sorry DeeGee, but this article - http://maddox.xmission.com/beat.html - just cemented him in my mind as a barbarous, maniacal controversy whore.  And a cunt.

---Edit after  wee bit of browsing---

And I'd have thought the fact that he practically assaults you personally in this - http://maddox.xmission.com/anime_nerd.html - article would make you slightly less defensive of his cesspit of being-a-cunt-sorta-things.

Well thank you oh so very fucking much, DeeG; now I feel like a complete and utter cunt because I actually agree with chuffin' Maddox about something.

Yak, I don't think any of us are beyond a nice bit of brainless popcorn fluff every now and again, but the problem is the Matrix is a rather unpleasant bit of brainless popcorn fluff that thinks it isn't.

Well, Farlander, I'll have you know that I am a proud member of the group which you oh-so-eloquently described as "wankers-inhabitants of the dungeon of the android-teenagers", and I still thought that The Matix was shit.  So much so, that, like any sensible person, I didn't even bother seeing the second one (Intacto was showing at the time, so I saw that instead - go me).

I did get the Animatrix, though, but only because Peter Chung rules.

I really, really hate to be the one defending BOYD, Minimi, but he did specify 'regular' Kazaa.

* Shattered Sponge attempts to out-pedant cpage

Actually it was called リング in Japan.

But the english language title was Ring, so I don't see the need to correct Totoro.

---edit---

* Shattered Sponge failed miserably

Yufster, some people can get away with being mean and sarcastic, but no-one can get away with being rediculously redundant on top of that (much less when you're attacking someone because they're guilty of that very same crime).

Ignore this; double post.

Problem about LSL from 5 to 7 was that it became stupid cartoon... I prefer first two parts, especially AGI-one. It was a game not meant to kids
I think that's a rather silly statement, frankly.  I can't think of many peple over the age of about 10 who'd find such failed puerility as was present in the LSL games amusing, wheras I can think of many cartoons which are genuinely intelligent and/or witty enough to appeal to the majority of adults.

I actually don't think QT is worthy of being judged quite so harshly upon his acting ability.  Sure, he's not a good actor, but I've seen far worse performances than his, by those far more practiced in the trade.  I actually think the main problem with his appearing in films is that his persona is so strong, whenever he plays against it (as I thought he did in Dusk 'til Dawn, in particular) it's rather jarring.

I wouldn't label him as a 'loser', either - a geek, definately, but that's no bad thing, IMO.

I saw it on sunday; it was at my local arthouse, and I attended a talk on Tarrantino beforehand.  Then, once I got home I found that Jackie Brown (still my favourite of his movies; anyone who found it 'boring' whilst claiming to enjoy his other films obviously only appreciated them on their most superficial level, and can't understand real depth) was on TV; I even got my mum to watch that one, and she really liked it.

So a fun time was had by all, then.

I was somewhat taken aback, however, by the tone of the film.  The mindfully constructed mindless fun aspect is definately dominant, but there were some moments where it was genuinely unnerving (particularly the opening, especially with the music in the following credits sequence), and I was also surprised to find myself getting rather emotionally attached to The Bride (rather than getting a mere 'She the man!' reaction I was expecting).

But then, maybe I'm just odd that way.

I disagree with you, yufster. Using a way of the described, you could, for example, lengthen your game from 4 to 5 hours or so. And, those tricks work ONLY if the game is worth playing - otherwise the player will throw it away.
Waitasec... are you telling me that article wasn't satire?

Well, I am certainly not going to be the one to exclaim:

'You bastard, you drew better when you were eight than I do now'

No siree, that will not be me.

Although you did.

General Discussion / Re:SHENMUE fans?

Quote from: Lazy Z on Mon 06/10/2003 12:37:16I also remember reading that Shenmue was a 7 parts game, but I kinda remember reading that one game could have more than one parts, so that there won't be 7 Shenmue games in total. Also, I think that Shenmue I&II are just one part, seeing as they were supposed to be released as one game originally...
IIRC, there were/are 16 chapters in total - Shenmue I was chapter 1, and Shenmue II was chapters 3-6 (chapter 2 - set on the boat - was apparently never intended to be in either game; maybe it was going to show up later as a flashback).  So far as I know, Shenmue III and IV are still possibilities, but the series would end there, so they'd have to stuff ten chapters in the between the two of them.
Come to think of it, there's also an untranslated Shenmue manga, but it's subtitled 'Side Story', so I guess it doesn't cover any of the chapters (maybe 2, I guess).

Flashback was a sequel to Another World, was it not?
#177
I think a prequel could work; probably wouldn't, as it'd be bloody difficult to pull off correctly, but it could work.

And Yufster, didn't you say you hadn't actually played it?

ARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!  VALLEY GIRL ACCENT!!!! MY EARS ARE BLEEDING!!!!

Dear god, I hope Yufster was putting that on, 'cause if not... well, I suppose I pity her more than anything else.

As with most of the posts in this thread, possible spoilers if you haven't finished the game yet.

One thing that bothered me was the 16-year-old (forget his name) - he seemed like something out of the 1950s, for a while I was convinced he would turn out to be a ghost (when he mentioned Terry Pratchett that kind of threw me); I mean, he talked about being beaten by his teachers, and he was willing to perform a bloody stupid dare for a single pound - what's he gonna spend it on, penny whistles and moon pies?  I did think perhaps the game was set in the 50s, but with all the talk about Reality TV I realised that that could not have been the case. Very short for his age, too - though perhaps that can be excused by the main character's height (6' 4", whatever that is in real measurements) dwarfing him.

I did love a lot of the other stuff, though - like the reference to Thief, the way the music suddenly builds up and make you think something is going to happen, the general design and atmosphere of the game which evokes a kind of Colonel's Bequest crossed with Clock Tower (to which I believe the shower curtain thingy is a reference) feeling, and the fact that the puzzles and dialogue were actually quite good.

I actually prefered it to his earlier games, which I didn't dislike.

Gilliam has been set to direct that for quite some time, but it's starting to look about as likely as Watchmen, to me.

There's another Neil Gaiman-related movie coming out next year, though (he wrote the script, and his frequent artist collaberator Dave McKean is directing) http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0366780/combined

Also, if Good Omens does get made, it wouldn't be the first time Terry Pratchett has been shot live action - the Johnny Maxwell books were adapted into a children's series for english televison (the imdb only lists Johnny and the Dead, but I'm sure I can remember watching at least Only You Can Save Mankind as well) which I think have also been broadcast as TV movies.
