McFarlane did Spawn.
Also, it's Todd McFarlane, not Tim; he also recently lost a lengthy court battle (note: that link leads to a pdf) with Neil Gaiman.

Yuf (or her latest alias "Ali") hasn't been posting as much lately for some reason.. we should e-mail this to her.
She's on holiday; back middle of next week, IIRC.  In addition, as evidenced here:
Quote from: Ali on Sat 10/04/2004 14:57:03
If Yufster is Ali then who the hell am I?
Her new alias is not Ali, but 'Ami'.

That was prolly just a typo, but me thought that I'd clear it up nonetheless :)

Is it out in America? I don't think I saw it at the cinemas..
They haven't sorted out a US release yet, but apparently one is on the proverbial cards; I found a quote by Simon Pegg (co-writer and star of the film) from an irc chat held earlier this week: 'We have a distibutor standing by. US screenings have gone very well indeed. we may be going to New York next weeks for some tests. It looks very promising.' - so looks like you'll be able to see it; may well be some time, however - 28 Days Later had almost 8 months in between it's UK and US releases.

(those interested can see a transcript of the chat here; scroll down a bit for Simon Pegg, go to page 6 and scroll down yet once more for co-writer and director Edgar Wright, who I assure you manages to locate his caps-lock key in good time)

:( I wish I lived in Britain.
For the love of cock, man, take that back; it's fucking horrible here.  I hope that you don't mind my correcting your typo, also; it's no that I'm being stingy, but I needed to remove the ability for anyone to deliver the witticism 'Oh, so you live in BritIAn, do you Sponge?', thus rendering me into a gibbering wreck.

Well, I've just seen it then.

Best film I've seen at the cinema in fucking ages (although the new Zatoichi was verily entertaining, it had nothing on this).

You should all see it too.

Comparisons have been made to An American Werewolf in London, and that's somewhat accurate; that film was quite funny in places (in a 'bloke in a dress!' kind of way), and rather good in the horror department, too; on the other hand, Shaun is absolutely frigging hilarious most of the way through, and as far as horror is concerned... well, I don't want to spoil it (reading a few too many reviews and articles dulled the impact of a couple of moments for me) but suffice it to say that, funny as the film is, at one point two blokes sat in front of me were laughing and I wondered what the hell was wrong with them.

I also have to add that, although I haven't seen the new Dawn yet, judging from the nine minute preview of that film (which serve as the primary reason I've yet to bother watching it), you would likely be ridiculously wrong to assume that this film serves as a parody of that one; unless Dawn got approximately one squillion times better after it's opening, Shaun just tears it to pieces in terms of zombienessness, and it's funny, and it has well-drawn characters, and it has fantastic dialogue, and I want to have sex with Simon Pegg (who manages to be incredibly attractive despite the fact that he's a ginger and he has a goatee), and it's the best movie evereverever and you should all see it.

Now.

See it now!

Rather small, surreal collection, here:

Bought myself:

Akira
A Better Tomorrow
Glengarry Glen Ross (which I stupidly bought without checking the back of the box; it's in pan & scan and has no special features.  Cracking film nonetheless)
The Man Who Wasn't There
End of Evangelion
Road To Perdition
Rollerball Special Edition (original, natch)
Straw Dogs
Witchfinder General

Recieved as presents:

Macross Plus Ultimate Edition
Metropolis (anime version)
Planet of the Apes (original; still haven't bothered to watch the damn thing, as I'd already seen it a couple of times)
The Spiral Staircase

Assuming the website isn't a carefully orchastrated lark, I actually feel quite sorry for the man.  Those of you who mock his loneliness, plain looks and ineptitude with HTML should be thoroughly ashamed of yourselves!

Or at least mildly sheepish.

Either way, before reading this thread, I had yet to notice just how large Steve Buscemi's forehead was in proportion to the rest of his face.

'Gansta' Rap is predominantly about drugs, guns, and violence.

Rock music (the rock I listen to) is mostly about love.

There is a difference.
Some people would argue that exposing teenagers and kids to songs glorifying love would mean that they place a very high importance upon finding it, thus tricking themselves into believing they have found it the first time they so much as have a crush on someone, and ending up getting themselves pregnant because YOU and your HEATHEN ROCK MUSIC made them careless!

Of course, such people are silly and deserve to be mocked openly, but their argument is no more ridiculous than any that says rap music has any substantial negative effects upon anyone.

Quote from: Darth Mandarb on Sun 04/04/2004 19:28:03
(Yes there is rock music that is bad and crap.  But the discussion was about rap.)
The point being made was that there was no fair reason for the discussion to focus upon rap specifically.

Not to mention the fact that many people with PCs don't use them for games, and aren't willing to spend a squillion squid to upgrade the mid-to-low range system they currently have into something capable of running current releases.

Well, if you'll actually READ WHAT I WAS SAYING BEFORE (impudent fools!) you'll notice I mention that it has been on TV, as I saw it; it was unbleeped.  However, it was just before midnight, and on the subscription-only FilmFour, rather than the free, terrestrial Channel 4 (however, another advert in the series in which the question was 'What would you like to do before you die' and Sharon Osbourne's answer was 'I'd like to fuck a black man' has been aired on Channel 4, so it's just 'cunt' which seems to be deemed offensive).

Besides, it's caused such a stir online that even if it hadn't been aired on TV it could still be considered a succesful piece of marketing.

Apparently, Lugum, it's not really a parody (at least not a parody of any movie in particular); all the actual zombie stuff will be done in the classic Romero style, and the comedy will all lie in the people and their reactions to the situations they are put in.

Personally, I am an insanely large fan of Spaced, and have been looking forward to this film since I first heard about about it over a year ago; the trailers don't exactly stand up to the comic brilliance of that series, but a lot of the humour in the show was in the perfect timing, which is obviously lost somewhat when all the jokes are chopped up and messed around.

Either way, I think that this is a brilliant excuse to randomly quote lines from Spaced:

"Just... give me a reason. You think I'm unemotional, don't you? I can be emotional. Jesus, I cried like a baby at the end of Terminator 2"

"Jar Jar Binks made the Ewoks look like... fucking... SHAFT!"

Feel free to continue amongst yourselves.

To everybody who's saying this might be a prank....  No body would make a joke like this. First of all, it's not even funny. Second, I don't think April Fools Day is even a holiday in England, because it was invented in America in the 70's. Mark my words... you'll be sorry for claiming this is just a joke.
The man from Gamera is correct; they tried to launch April Fool's day as a holiday over here in the UK, but it just didn't work.  We simply aren't going to set a whole day aside to celebrate something if it doesn't involve burning the effigy of a man who was horrifically tortured, or something along those lines.  What kind of idiots do you take us for?

Besides, it's half-four in England now; if this was an April Fool's joke, CJ would have posted at twelve to tell us - anyone who continues or participates in the continuation of an April Fool's after this time is a fool themselves, remember?

Clearly, good sir, you are a less-than adept googler; on the first page of my search, I found several mirrors of the file; I've not checked them all, but this one definately works.

I caught it on TV the other night, too; FilmFour, rather than Channel Four, and just before midnight, but amusing nonetheless.

Seeing as this topic has been yanked back up, I though I'd mention that I caught a TV spot for ESotSM last night (over a fucking month early, for cock's sake!  Bastards) and noticed that Mr. LeFonataine referred to the film merely as 'Eternal Sunshine'.  So what am I supposed to ask for at the ticket office?  If I go for 'Eternal Sunshine' I will highlight myself as a fickle member of the sheep-like masses, easily swayed by media hype into using nicknames, abbreviations, coloquialisms and so forth that they choose for me (like those cunts who call Sunny Delight 'Sunny Dee'; kill them!), but if I ask for 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' I sound like a ponce.

I've only got a month (BASTARDS!) to decide, dammit!

By which I mean it's fanastic that your games have been delayed; I'm far too heartless to care about yet one MORE puny human!

QuoteNot quite sure how ironic that is, but nonetheless

Well, it is ironic when you consider her two cousins are in a movie directed by her hubby.
I'd describe that as more unusual than ironic (or perhaps even disconcertingly USUAL; curse those professionally inbred Coppolas!), but semantically speaking I can't really justify why you should use one and not the other, so meh.

Either way, I just deployed the phrase 'professionally inbred' - worship me!

Quote from: DGMacphee on Mon 22/03/2004 11:47:27Ironically, recent Oscar-winner Sofia Coppola (Nic and Marc's cousin) used to be married to Spike Jonze, the director of Adaptation.
Not quite sure how ironic that is, but nonetheless; it's also interesting to note that another cousin of Sofia's (first name basis!), Jason Schwartzman, had his first role as the star of Rushmore, which also featured Bill Murray as a pretty important character.

It's a fucking Coppola conspiracy, man.

As for Spotless, it's not coming out here for over a month - which is annoying, as I'm pretty sure that they've been running cinema trailers here as long as they have in the US - but I cannot fucking wait.  I loved Malkovich, Adaptation and Confessions (those last two I saw, in the cinema, on the same day; fascinating, no?) and I enjoyed the script for Human Nature (I haven't seen the actual film, oddly), although it seemed to me more of a traditional comedy than the other three, so I'm really on tenterhooks waiting for it.  I've actually had the screenplay on my hard drive for almost a year, but I decided to wait for the film itself.  So I will.

Yes.

Additionally, these characters had no capacity to understand the subtext of phrases.
Is the subtext that the criticisms you place upon Schafer's characters apply just as much to Yufster or that they apply just as much to you?  Indeed, do they apply to the entire AGS community?

Elaborate, do.

Curse your reading this thread half an hour before me, CeeJay!

But yes; blatantly Yufster.

Just so you know, aside from the way she talks and the befitting clues, the way she came up with that e-mail adress is reasonably distinctive, too.
