It's great to be on-board this crazy train (laugh)

We still need a decent background artist (improve originals) and animator... Come on guys, help us out (nod)

Hi

Based on an earlier version (I intend to play revised version soon).

Whilst this game is very straightforward and uses simple mechanics (which are not always as easy to implement as it seems), I found it rather charming and had a giggle or two.. I thought monkeys could not swim (laugh). I loved the graphic style.

arj0n made this game fairly quickly (I think he wants to beat me for game making time (laugh)) and i think he has done ok.. Imagine if he took his time, but then that is what monthly mags is all about.

I will update my views when i have played the latest version...

Are we expecting anything else? Radiant? Blane?
Y'all have until midnight (BST) on August 31st (about 2-and-a-half days) to stop Arj0n winning by dirty default (wrong)
Blane & Radiant, need some competition here. Winning by default ain't fun. (wrong)

They don't have the bottle (laugh)

mind you, I may jump in at the last few seconds to retain my crown (laugh) (laugh)

I edited the room to not have that particular walkbehind and it works as it should... all ok (nod)
#2265
Hi

when the player starts from a walkbehind the shadow fails to appear. The object is spelled right and is just above walkable area. It is ok in other rooms

any ideas?

Variables can be changed in dialogs. Post your full dialog script and let us look.

So, the character being spoken to is behind a door.... Why not make the door baseline large than the character so he is hidden behind it and not seen?

That's if I understand you correctly...

Learn stuff from wherever you can find it. The biggest learning curve is actually doing it..

You can define variables in the global variables pane in the editor, and in some cases in the global script.

You can call them from within your room scripts.. etc

Good luck

Why not make a similar game from scratch.. that way you control all aspects. Then later on maybe go for the real deal?

You may well be biting off far more than you can chew.

Trying to make a game just because you are bored is not the best excuse, you need passion.

If you have passion and the skill go for it...

I wish you luck in your quest.

Welcome Lord Ed to the ags forums.

I first started messing with AGS just after it came out.... It was still quite a few years before I made my first attempt at making  a game. I knew nothing about scripting.

I Did not know the difference between a variable and a choc-ice (laugh)

It all looked very daunting to say the least. I made lots of mistakes, cried for help and banged my head a few times.

Slowly overtime things started to make sense and once i'd grasped the basics i started to run.

I can't thank the people who helped me enough (Khris kicked my butt a few times but it really helped) and even up to this day I still get their help if I need it.

The ags engine is very powerful and in the right hands can be a beast.

Take your time to read the manual, look on these forums, ask questions and anything that helps, make notes (i have 100's of text files of code that helps me remember when i forget how to do something).

Kings Quest type game would be something you would aim towards meanwhile do short games where you can hone your skills on the basics of scripting. It's not that difficult really.

I'v seen it so many times where newbies, with no skills who want to make the world's number one game (laugh)

Take your time, learn anything you can. Enjoy it and who knows, one day you could be making fantastic games (nod)

Good luck

I docked panels (both project and properties) to lower half of screen and seem ok so far.....

Docked back to top right and now seem ok.. so far
#2276
The property panel is docked at the top right of screen....

i will try re-docking else where.

Hi

ags 3.4.0.(9) has a major bug... when in an entity's events pane (by lightning bolt) you can't go back to it's properties panel.

I have to close ags and re-open.
