General Discussion / Re: Character Portraits
Thu 02/10/2014 13:48:59
Hi,

as per said:

I generally only prefer portraits if they show a vital element like: raising an eyebrow, smirking etc etc other than that I don't personally like them and prefer the default  normal speech view. Of course there are types of games where I find them acceptable.

Go to the game general settings, go to 'Visual', select 'when player interface is disabled...' and select "Display normally'

The button (and all gui's) will not grey out.

Hi  DuckyLady,

QuoteIf you are still looking for female voice actors, I can do any dialect / accent you may require.
Yes I am still needing more female voices (and males). Parts include whores and social standing ladies.

You may have one or more parts.

I will PM you some test lines a bit later today.

Thank you for your interest.

cheers

Hi Crimson,

i put your script in rep exec:

Code: ags
int height = GetTextHeight(LNotes.Text, LNotes.Font, LNotes.Width + 1);
if (height > LNotes.Height)
{
 // move some text to the next label... should go from LNotes to LNotes2 label.
 // when I click arrow to go to the next page the label does not display the text (click next page arrow and do labels visible properties.

}

I just get an error come up to shut down game.. after adding more lines than a label takes.

(roll)

cheers

Hi Crimson,

I think its more about height rather than width. Like when the label has reach maximum characters it will wrap text to the next label. Bearing in mine I use Append for many lines that are added.

I will see if I can use/adjust your code.

cheers

Hi,

quote from punaman:
Labels used to have a 200 character limit, but this has been removed in the latest 2.72 beta (so long as you use the Label.Text="" approach)

I'm using 3.2.1.  I'm not sure what the character limit is for labels.

Anyhow, I have a gui set up with three labels (one for each page of a case note book). Each label is only shown if it contains text, which can be added in any order (page arrows will display).

What I am aiming to do is have ags do a live count of characters in a label and when it reaches the maximum automatically put the text into the next label etc.

Help much appreciated.

Hiya all ;)

Re: Do you think I was right or wrong?

I had solely looked after my 3 sons until they left home when the were in their late teens (mother ran off for pastures new, though not green).

I had hoped that they would understand the basics of life. For most parts they have.

Anyhow, my eldest son is living with me again until he gets another place to live. I told him £45 per week all in.

Anyhow, yesterday (Friday) when he came home from work he told me that a late missed payment had caused his car insurance company to cancel his policy. He had already arranged to take his car to a mechanic to have certain things done ie oil leak and some other bits.

Now, this month I had to pay out bigtime and so I had to be careful with what the money that was left so my sons £45 was crucial.

He calmly told me he may give me something during the week but at the moment nothing (bearing in mind he had £1000 at his disposal). I told him that without his money we won't eat, can't cook or have any electric light.. nothing.. He then said his car was more important and I would have to wait for his keep of £45.

After an exchange of words he gave me his keep and was not a happy bunny.

We did sort out another car insurance company that evening that was quite cheap and the car is now covered.

My point is this:

Do you think I was right or wrong to confront my son about paying his keep?

Sometimes you can't do right for doing wrong.

Thanks for your opinions (nod)

In that case add the label script to the Quit button BEFORE your new Quit Game GUI opens. That way the label will already be changed to the random text and be displayed.

I use this method all the time in various instances.

#2973
Hi,

lblQuit is the name that monkey_05_06 gave to the text label that displays the text.

The label name you have can be named anything as long as it reflects the same name in the script.

For now name the label: lblQuit and script as monkey_05_06 has showed and implement it on the button so that when it is clicked the random text will display.

Easy, if you can't solve the puzzle after zillions of hours.. Alt-X

Hi Nicky,

QuoteShould players have to go to the internet to find solutions to puzzles? Should more games include some type of in game hint system? Does having a hint system make the player reach for it earlier than their brains should? This one I believe so.
Giving a game option to have help hints as an option would be ideal for those that want or need them, and those that don't can just not select that hint option.

Let's face it: some of the ridiculous puzzles around that I have played needed a hint to stop you pulling your hair out and after finding the solution you know why you never found it (Use banana skin on the telephone and must be wearing tartan trousers (laugh))

Updates:

New: 'go-to' location (background holding)

This game now comes in two modes: Normal play mode or 'Guess who JACK is' mode:
This is where you draw a grid and try to see if you can guess who the murderer (JACK) is
(this gives you, the player, the opportunity to get more involved as a 'whodunit?').

Progress: Much of the back-end scripting is done.
Overall progress: 8%

Still waiting on Background artists to confirm if jumping on board this crazy train.....(laugh)

Fribbi,

QuoteA very dull game
just because you don't know the answers does not call for negative statements.

Spend more time figuring things out, it's fairly simple really and plenty of people have got through this problem.
