Hi chaosgodkarl

I have took what you have said onboard and necessary changes will be made (nod)

QuoteI think that this game is one where multiple endings could have played a factor. The "normal ending" where you put the ravens in the box and escape, and a "good ending" where you manage to find Moriarty and actually beat him somewhat instead of just being a pawn in his little game. To me the ending was just a disappointment in that you just put the ravens in and leave and that's it. There should have been more.

The reason why you never meet Moriarty is because I want to keep him as a mysterious figure. Your paths will cross again (nod) I wanted to keep the ending simple and the quirky remark from Queen Victoria I found typical and so funny (laugh) I really wanted this game to be an introduction to Charles Davenport more that anything else.

Regarding the Pit and the Nuts Room: a new game version has been uploaded that covers previous issues found and are now resolved (nod)

QuoteLast, not sure how I feel about Rebecca. At first I thought that she might have just been an illusion too. But I am not so sure now after seeing the ending. When I think of this I think of Sherlock Holmes, and I believe that Holmes didn't believe much into the supernatural thing. I thought there would have been a trick behind it.

The idea about Rebecca is to give you an insight into Moriarty: controlling, wicked, intelligent if not somewhat mad etc etc.

Thanks for your comments ;)

There are many many sayings and expressive phrases that may not reach a 'how to speak English' book. Believe me, I know.

Go around speaking 'Hamlet' and people would say you need to learn to speak English...

London also implements 'Cockney'. Now, that would mess with you head if you don't know it (laugh)

If it is not found on Google don't assume it's not a valid word of use.... it is to those that know...

I will excuse ignorance, especially foreigners ;)

Anyhow.... a lot of stuff has been fixed and the game is ready (again) to download... ;)

Hi Guys,

It's funny how people come across stuff that you can't seem to repeat. However, I will endeavor to put things right as it is a shame to mar an otherwise good game.

I will upload revised games as I progress.

cheers guys ;)

Deadly Consequences!

Introducing Charles Davenport: Investigator of the truth.

Set in Victorian London 1870.

In your office one morning you are looking through the day's mail when you come across an invitation issuing you a game of challenge.

You have not had a juicy case in over two weeks and this is just what you need to fill the empty void and give you mind stimulation.

The invitation instructs you to be at Blackthorn Manor 23rd September at 8:00pm.

Blackthorn Manor has been assumed to be empty for years.

Your hired coach driver stops a mile short of the Manor and refuses to go any further, due to what he has heard about Blackthorn Manor, and advises you to steer well clear!

Upon your arrival at Blackthorn Manor you are greeted by an unseen voice. It soon becomes apparent that this is no ordinary game of challenge, but a game of deadly consequence with the life of Queen Victoria in the balance!

You must solve door puzzles to get into the rooms beyond. This requires much thinking about. Find and obtain valuable items that will help win these challenges for you must collect ten Black Ravens.

This game has Modes for Un-Timed and Timed games.

Timed Modes:
You have been set a time limit afterwhich a poisonous gas will expel: killing you within minutes!

It is a race against time. Will you succeed and win this deadly game and save Queen Victoria from certain death?

Specs:
800 x 600 resolution
16 bit colour
DirectDraw 5
Primary control: Mouse

My thanks to all those that helped make this game possible.

Hi,

I was wondering, is there a way to open an audio file in game from the compiled folder and have it play in game?

I have a project on hold where I am making a kids game based around cooking. The kid selects a recipe (like a cake or pizza) and then makes it.

I would like to enable the kid to record their name etc that will be inserted into the game as speech.

cheers

When you are passionate about something you just do it. Of course there are moments you need a break for a while. Then you come back fully fired up itching to put you recent ideas into action (yes, even off ags your mind can work on ideas).

I spent most part of a year (due to illness) being unable to do much (maybe 30 minutes a day) as even typing became a nightmare, dizziness, weakness, a sick feeling and tiredness overcame me and I could not continue at that time.

So now, even though I have a way to go with my illness, I spend all the time I can and it excites me and to be honest AGS  has been a godsend in terms of keeping me occupied and using my mind and body. Without it I may have become even more a vegetable (laugh)

So, when the going gets tough, back off and try later... but always return (nod)

Ideas are two a penny... Good ideas cost a bit more ;)

If there is a story then there is always a game, however absurd.

Hi,

Basically a player can only have 1 set of inventory items but can have mutiple Inv windows to display them.

You could do a number of options (something like this question was answered a few topics before yours).

1} Change main character (cDummy set as player)
2) Use a gui with buttons that act like inv items.

cDummy can't use default players inventory items and vice versa normally.

* Plus what others come up with for a solution.

The new inventory window can be named as you want as long as its name is referred to by that name in scripts.

Someone named the new inv window invSecondaryInv, this would have to be the name referred to in scripts.

Active Inv means the mouse cursor has an inventory item as an image.

EDIT:  Khris jumped over me (laugh)

Hi TheresaGamer,

welcome to the forums and to game making with the Adventure Game Studio.

Learning ags and the scripting can be a daunting task. Whilst some seem to pick it up very quickly others seem to find it mind-boggling and frustrating. We have some very good experienced scripters here that can help and of course there is plenty of help around such as the manual, ags wiki, searching the forums for answers etc etc.

Start very basic and work up using all the help you can find. Too many beginners want to 'do it all' and miss out the basics.

Baby steps until you can run with the pack: Learn to make the character walk around the room, make hotspot interactions such as when looking at a painting and the character comments about the painting etc.

Everytime you learn something useful use it in some way in your demo game, if its plausible.

It may take you a year or more to realise what ags can actually offer you.  I'm still learning after * years ;)

Good luck and just keep learning and making games that people may want to play someday (nod)

You need to import a new font of right type and size and use that for the label font.

Hi,

I know naff all about the game.

Here goes:

You may also wish to consider the angle of the bat and the power that you hit the ball: these will determine where the ball goes to and how (straight or Khris's ball curving maths). These can easily be implemented with a power bar/slider and an angle bar/slider on a gui along with an if collide script (ball touches bat for example).

Food for thought.
