I use GUI with textbox, and always there's some "_"-symbol in the end of text.


Code for example: SetTextBoxText(4,0,"What's up, man?");

And result:




WTF? I've seen font and deleted all strange and "_"-oid symbols. But nothing.

Space Quest Mania


Hi, there's some idea about creating mini episodes like Maniac Mansion Mania, but about Space Quest.

One guy create first episode with any story, graphics and style. Then second guy similarly continue this episode, then third, fourth, etc.


So, it would be new fan-serial Space Quest of mini-episodes.

Tra mustn't be accesible for all people, 'cause they can easy change original game to sux parody :)) or change some names or etc.

Of course, any guy can change exe's, but no all of them you can change and there's limit numbers of letters. And it's hard for simple player - digging to "hex", searching all phrases.

Maybe just must be 1-2 guys, who can create and change Tra, if game author can't (doesn't want) do it. And all, who wanna translate game, must just ask those 2 guys help him :) It's like two special AGSers, normal good guys, who created special topic for it  :=

Pardon for reanimation topic, but it's interesting and maybe I can explain something, althought I know English language so-so.

USSR was another country than Russia. And soviet people, IMHO, were really good guys & girls, maybe some serious, but they don't hate another countries as I know. Because all people have normal life and strange but good view to future.

What's about "red alert", "evil soviet people", I think, it was hoax. It was just politic of both countries, "who is first?", etc. Maybe like events in "Russia vs Georgia" or, as Ru-government told to us, "Georgia vs South Osethia".


Today in Russia more evil people, I think, than in USSR. Because of worse life and "good" politics, like in Gotham-city :)) Lie, power, bandits in all types of people life. It started after 90s, after allowing privatization, business actions - independence from government. So there were many bandits. Russian people hadn't salary several monthes, because all money had bandits. They captured government with new fictive president Eltsen. And today we've about 12 superrich guys, as we told them "oligarch". They rule our country for rich life and nobody of them doesn't think about us seriously. We was fallen.

In 2000s there was new president Putin, boss of ex-KGB (russian FBI ;)), who, as I heard, captured power by him people. And pres. Eltsen fictively went away from post because of "fatigue of powering country". Suddenly Putin became prime minister, then people chose him like president (just fiction of choice). Of course, life became better than with alco Boris.

And in 2008s there was Medvedev and new politic party from Putin... It's just continue of Putin power, but with another fictive figure.


But oligarches live today and keep really big money of Russia. I sure, they rule our country, and now Putin is oligarch too. It's just "politic show". Government without interests in his native people.

Because of that Russian people are angry. They like fallen children without parents. Without normal life. 80-90% of them steal all they can. Stealing, alcohol (stupid vodka), narcomania... It's life in Russia. And people don't (I think, don't know how) fight with it, with criminal government.


It's sad but it's truth. Of course, IMHO.


P.S. Zirinovsky is just clown. Nobody listen him, now he's part of Russian show business, like pop-star.

I can do for you special mini-example like checkers with 2 players online. Via AGS + Delphi.

But why? Maybe, just use another softmakers with multiplayer support - Multimedia Fusion, Scirra, maybe GameFactory and GameMaker

Hm, guys.


I created Multiplayer AGS alpha. There're 10 players for max (temporarily).

And alpha works. One problem is slowness. You see another players with some slow-mo.


I found one decision for AGS Multiplayer -> TXT-files and programm as client/server (in Delphi)

I tried to create only in Delphi (without AGS), but I got *similar* slow-mo...

Of course, save&load TXTs is one of causes of slowness. But I think one problem is long processing, when server has many new coordinate-lines. He hasn't time to process it all.


If you want, I can show you my alpha --- we'll see each other and can move on screen, but each of us'll see another guys with "jump animation" (skip frames)

see Russian version of 1213: Episode 1 (by Ben 'Yahtzee' Croshaw), it's not via *.TRA.

Change resolution to 640x400 (in winsetup).

I already created Russian + English font support for AGS.




It's easy. Just put your font in to game folder. But for Russian need for some remake standard Cyrillic font. I made some famous, get it here

Rename font to agsfnt0.ttf, agsfnt1.ttf, ... (0, 1, ... - game font number) and put it near game *.exe.

For better view of font - use, via winsetup, 640x400 resolution.

I got this trouble when I was starting translation of AGS 2.3 game. It's use unknown for me *.wfn format for font.

If you have WFN Editor or TTF 2 WFN (for better), give link.


p.s. I heard, TTF 2 WFN converter was in pak of Corel Draw 2.x

I don't tell here about fantastic things and super-wishes.

What's real and need (for comfort):

1. Player - Go to Different Room / Character - Move Character

Mini-picture of new room and choosing coords by mouse-click (put flag). Graphical and comfortable. Like "Teleport..." in RPG Maker 2000.

2. Copy/Paste for Commands and Multu-select of them (very comfortable!)


That's all! :) I think, it's very easy.

And last...

If you want to translate game, but evil author doesn't want to help you (or smth else), let's game-hack :D


(ex., Russian-translate)

1. Find AGS-Rus font (see my prev posts)

2. Throw it on the folder with game, rename as "agsfnt1.ttf" (if game use several fonts, you may duplicate file: agsfnt0.ttf, agsfnt2.ttf and etc)

3. By Far Manager open EXE - choose WIN-encoding (F8) and Insert Mode (Insert) [for keeping same bytes of file].

4. Find 1st word from game (from dialog text). And write over your translate.


Attention!!! Don't touch Zero symbol*. It's end of dialog.


[*At the top-right in Far there's ordinal number of symbol; Zero symbol's number is 0]
