You don't post much, LGM, but when you do, it's good

Quote...inspired by the original Alone in the Dark gameI will be waiting for this
QuoteHehe (I may have been drinking during that post)Heh, no problem, Ryan, I understand
QuoteThe stairs haven't been fixed, they're dead straight on as if it's a poster on a wall. Meaning they appear to have no depth at all since the base of the stairs don't follow perspective.Jesus, Ryan, it sounded as if you were scolding a child. Thanks for the info, regardless
Quote from: Lyaer on Mon 24/05/2010 23:55:19Right. In dialogues in stories, comics, novels, games, etc. Just something about it when he wrote it irked me. I can't explain why it does not fit here, maybe someone else can explain. Someone with more than half a brainQuote from: Snake on Mon 24/05/2010 20:16:38QuoteTha-that's possible?I can see writing how you talk (with punctuation and all that, you know) but writing out an actual stutter is going annoyingly too far (much like your other thread).
I'm actually surprised no one else has commented on that.
To be fair, mate, that was hardly excessive as textual stutters go, and I'm pretty sure I've seen professional writers use it in dialogues. And if not professionals, definitely amateur writers of reasonable quality.
QuoteYou are absolutely correct. But if one of the regulars wrote that exact line, I would get the joke, because it would be meant in some way to be, like you said, cutsie or funny. When Icy wrote it, I felt as if he was seriously scared and felt the need to expresse it with a stutter. All I can picture is this icy character quivering in some dark corner (as the camera zooms in of course) in fear that he will be banished from the forums while saying, "Tha-that's possible?!". It just seemed completely obsurd to me at that moment.
I suspect (and please correct me if I'm wrong) that if one of the regulars said the same line, you might have been less inclined to comment.
QuoteWas it necessary? No, it wasn't. Fueled by the other thread? Yes.
At any rate, I don't know how someone should be expected to know to avoid that or similar mannerisms ahead of time, so it seems a little more understanding would be in order, whether or not you feel that airing this particular preference is necessary.
QuoteNo, it was not passive-aggressive, quite the opposite, I thought. I wasn't trying to sound nice or helpful.
I mean, I know that your post wasn't anywhere near as harshly worded as some of the stuff in the other thread, but it does have a sort of condescending (is that the word? Passive-Aggressive?) vibe to it.
QuoteYes, I think that is a great idea.
(Serious question: Would it be stepping on toes to start a civil, reasoned discussion on newbie policy in a thread where such is actually on topic?
