Okay - for some of you it's probably silly as hell but here he is - Kevin the furry cat man from another dimension.
Tried to keep the style from the first character (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=36861.msg484438#msg484438).
Any help how to make him better? Crtitique? I tried my best ^^" It's still not enough - I know.
As for the colors - he has to be blue/blonde mix as he's my friends character :)

EDIT: look for reshade below :)

Critics' Lounge / Homepage logo
Thu 02/04/2009 15:04:42
I'm making my homepage and I'm working on the design, logo and stuff right now. I have some ideas in my head and I made something like this:

as you can see it's a "pixelated" design thingy..I also have not-pixelated logo which is slightly different (tilted) here:

I can't seem to make a nice looking pixelated version like above with this angle..

Anyways - Should I go for pixelated look or make something with the tilted logo? (like fading bottom reflection and stuff making page design more modern looking)

Ok...I don't know about you guys but I ALWAYS wonder who or what the f*** is in Lucas Arts logo!

The work that will make most (non)sense to me wins! The more crazy idea the better! LA guys are crazy after all.

RULES:
-Flipping and rotating allowed (those bastard's at LA can be tricky!) but no scaling
-Must be at least a little bit crazy
-No color limits
EDIT:
-Background optional :)
EDIT 2:
-Special bonus for drawing only in the fully outlined area  ;)
EDIT 3:
-Make as many entries as you want :)

TROPHIES (Yes there are some!):

I saw Flatley's "Lord of the Dance" live today :) And this made me curious - do you prefer to go and see a movie or a live play/show/musical?
I prefer the second option :) Somehow watching things performed by artists in real time feels much better and I find myself smiling all the time while watching it. It's also quite different expirience... How about you people?

EDIT: cleared the post. More actual info below

When I import pallette based png or gif the sprite doesn't look right.

Orginal:

Sprite after importing to AGS (either gif or png file imported) with no transparency:

see the black stripe almost at the bottom?

Sprite after importing to AGS(either gif or png file imported) with leave-as-is transparency

the black stripe is now acompanied by the pinkish ags-transparent one..

It doesnt seem to be a color depth problem as all colors besides the stripe don't change Sorry - turned out that colors change so there's some color compression... Does it matter if I use optimized octree or median cut while lowering the color depth?

the problem occurs only when file is saved in 8bit color depth. Apart from displaying in AGS file seems ok (and even get's uploaded right when I use my plugin instead of AGS import).

It doesn't matter what color depth I choose.

Okay,
It is done.
(Requires .NET 2.0 framework installed on your machine. I think there's Mono framework for linux users)
http://www.box.net/shared/xe5t4s2431 (put in main AGS folder)

Screen:

It should work just fine BUT I don't take any responsibility if it screws something up :) It has been tested only by me so far. Feel free to play with it. I hope you all will find it useful and that it will speed up the view creating proces (at least a bit).
Please post any found errors here (critical and small), describe them and describe what you were doing (printscreen is always welcome too). I'll try to release updated version as soon as possible. If you find something annoying or think about new small feature it could use - feel free to reply here as well :)

I hope the interface is quite selfexplainatory but I'll try to describe it in a second in a new reply :)

EDIT: Added screenshot and uploaded new file :) Now it's scrollable when editor window gets too small lol. Small things small things... Any comments on the plugin are welcome! :3

EDIT 2: Now storing the plugin on box.net cuz it rocks!

EDIT 3: My bad, it needed .NET 3.5 framework but it was due to project settings. Changed back to .NET 2.0 now. Although you all should download latest version anyway :) (file at the link is updated)

EDIT 4: Oh and if you have "To XML!" message while saving game please download plugin again. It's just a thing I tested and forgot to delete from the .net 2.0 version :)

General Discussion / About free e-books :)
Sun 15/03/2009 14:26:30
Okay,
Inspired by some post about few free books I want to mention an interesting page http://www.ebookee.com where links to many many MANY books are stored. I get most of my IT books there too. The site is completely legal as storing links to files isn't against the law :). Sometimes the links are dead but most of the time you just click the same title on the list of "similiar books" and you get to another page where links may be valid  :) (or not, but you just continue browsing :P)

I hope it's helpful to some of you :)

Ok guys and girls :) This is just a formality, but I really need you to vote on those polls to get some data for my user description in requirements specification of the PixelArt editor I'm making :) Please vote

Eyesight poll
Graphic editors poll
AGS image importing poll
Graphic tablet poll

Maybe I'll add some other polls later. Sorry for the trouble :)

EDIT: As it wasnt clarified enough what I am after - look down below at my reply :3

Ok,
I wasnt quite sure where to put this thread but I finally decided it's technical after all :)

I'm a computer science student and I had to decide on my final project I have to make to graduate (something like engineering doctorate). I chose to develop a program used to create/edit pixel art (something like GraphicsGale for example). The thing is - I want to make it free and as useful for all of us here.

That's the point where I could use some help :) I already have some ideas about useful tools to put in there but I bet that with YOUR help I can get a neat list of requirements and suggestions that could lead to professional (It's a graduate project after all - so It'll be the same as commercial one) and FREE tool for us all :)

It won't be complete in a less than a year, but it's a serious project after all. Guys I need your help! :) Tell me everything that you ever thought could be usefull for creating low res sprites and backgrounds (or thinhgs that irritate you in the programs you use so I can avoid them)!

Hello,
I made an inventrory screen based on the verb coin made earlier. Tried to keep it in the same oozy spirit :).
As the verb coin was edited by Progz it appears much better shaded to me than the coin. Is it just me? Or is it plainly wrong shaded? Some pointers would be nice.
Also if you have any suggestions about it's layout or the apperance at all - by all means - post it :)

*EDIT* Oh, remember that inventory shows up after right click, so it's not on the screen whole the time :)

Inventory:

Verb-coin:

PS. If by any chance Progz reads it and wants to do an edit PLEASE give me some pointers how to shade slimy things in pixel art first...I was trying so haaaard on it...Ran out of ideas at this point :/

While waiting for your comments on my first character sprite I've done the verb coin gui design and I want to ask you all about an opinion about it (if you point any errors I will be very pleased :) )

Critics' Lounge / First character sprite
Sat 14/02/2009 05:36:11
Okay,
I started up a project with my friend and to be honest I havent worked on anything graphical like games for long years. That's why I feel the need to ask you all about the front view of main character sprite (he's supposed to be grey/black mostly to blend into crowd). Any anatomical problems? Any stupid shading errors :)? Any help appriciated.
