I want to add just that Paint Shop Pro is relatively cheap compared to Photo Shop and other stuff like that. It's in the rach of most people really interested in drawing :)

Anyways great link :) Some people will be happy to get it legally (downloading software isnt illegal at all - hosting and providing it to other people is :P)

EDIT: AND as far as you use it only in no-commercial way it isnt really ripping of the Corel company :) that's my philosophy

His hand looks like a fork.
Not a very useful fork, either. Stumpy prongs.

yeah his hand shape doesnt look good to me either. I wonder if it could be done better

EDIT: BUT I just love the color usage. So much with so little colors...

Now you got my into thoughts..wondering if you had a book short of gadget in a size of a small book, where would you put it to carry it?  And would you give a case or something like a string to help users?
O think it doesnt need anything to keep it in. It's future. Probably material that it is made of is not-scratchable anyway :) let them keep it just as it is :)

This isn't the place to critique or comment on someone else's work, only your own.  Moving this to adventure talk.
thought so :) not sure if anyone will c&c on it here though..

Ok I had this crazy idea - what if MI2 was never released and some AGS fan would draw guybrush instead of LA team :)
Then he would post it for comment and critique.
Just for a moment - forget that he ever existed - how would you comment this sprite?

Don't be shy! Do you see any mistakes? any advice for the "artist" who drew him? :)

I thought it might turn out fun :) sorry if it's clearly wrong and deserves moving to general forum or something :P

3. No scaling and, attention - no flipping this time!

umm...Remember that flipping and rotating are two different things. So add rotation to the prohibited list if it was your intention :)

Is it me or does death shows itself quite often in coloring ball contests?

Oh damn, I just got myself into thinking up the next contest =)
I must say that Björn Redbeard was my personal fav. A viking with such a gentle, dreamy face - lmao :)

And no worries SpacePaw, I'm sure nobody's going to feel bad here.

Well...To be honest I would give first place to all of you ^^" I had so much trouble choosing. Viking was great idea indeed :) pity that there were only 3 throphies :P
#149
Okay then :) time for the results! Belive me it was very hard to choose as there were many entries, all of them interesting, all of them looking good and all of them made me smile :).

But I still have to choose the winners anyway and give the trophies :) So here you go:

1'st place :Kastchey
Your pikachu playing cards is the most crazy idea IMO (but it looks a bit creepy too 0.0).  Other entry was neat as well (hooray for Lovecraft ;) )!

2'nd place : Bulbapuck
Very crazy idea as well but it seems a bit unfinished. Also the way you used the shape was very smart indeed!

3'rd place : kaioshin
It's not really that crazy so I couldnt give you the first place, but belive me, this one is the funniest entry of all . For the great and funny idea you get 3'rd place! If the criteria wasn't the "most crazy" but "most funny" you would get 1'st place from me :)

I'm sorry if some of you feel bad that they didn't win - all entries were marvelous and I really had to think a lot who to choose... Good luck next time!!!

now breasts look much better :)
#151
I think the problem with the ball was too big specular radius. Glass/crystal objects tend to have strong but small reflections of light instead of biiig spots. Evil catched that quite nicely in his edit :)

Are those backgrounds in your signature drawn by you? Cause if they are, you can draw. Hell even if they're not, you can learn to draw..
He said that they are not his drawings like 10 times already Dual :)

J - Liesten, when you build a game development team and you aren't the artist then concentrate on other aspects of the game. You can however give this drawing to the leading artist as a reference so he/she can draw him instead. Putting this character on the neat backgrounds you have would be..well..strange :)

Changed the colors a bit (warmer hair as suggested) and resigned from so restricted pallette, aimed for more Sparky-like shading instead :)

EDIT:
And just for showing you guys how you all help me and how this forum motivates me to work on my style and stuff:

#154
yeah rainbow doesnt work well, besides "nt" blends into the "@" so it's another reason to change it :)

Why is that? wouldn't it mean he'd have to redo the shading after the form has changed?

By the way SpacePaw you don't have to upload your sprite at different sizes, you can just specifiy the width and height for an image in the img tag: [img height=220 width=80]

EDIT:

i found this short tutorial about shifting hues: http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/1618/rampsak6.png

Just like Jimmy said - it's for people with browsers that blur resized images. I use chrome lately so I know what it means :P

As for the hues thanks on the tutorial. I tried to keep everything contrasted, thought it looked ok already :)
#156
Lol, I uploaded wrong file before. Here is the newest version - sorry :P
#157
Woah great edit :) Another proof that I have long way to go :P The thing that amazes me is how quick you managed to do that. Kevin took me days to get him to look decent T.T

Anyways. I love how you made the hands and I dig onto the shading although I tried to be very restrictive with colors :P (want to make 256 color game with 2 main characters :P)

As some of you may know I'm quite new to pixel art but I find learning and practicing it very exciting!
What really suprised me is that there are lots of "rules of thumb" and theory that seems more useful to me than general art theory and rules.
Not only they seem more technical and easy to follow but when you finally get it you make a really big jump forward with your style. Also traditional drawings benefit from this knowledge! How is it possible? :) I don't know but I love it.
And you guys?
What makes you love/like pixel art? :)

Is it any better now?
To be honest I never heard about banding. I'm quite new to pixel art after all. Very interesting subject. Unfortunately I can't really see it yet, I'm not even sure if I corrected it (and I have a bad feeling that it became too jagged now :/)
I have no idea how to fix it correctly...

Reedit :) Changed the jacket color - now it's more military like. I kind of like it this way. Also added one shadow tone to the pants. I didnt want to highlight the jacket as I dont want it to look too shiny. :)
