Critics' Lounge / Drawing up for Crit.
Mon 09/10/2006 05:10:56
Hi there.

I have been drawing a lot, trying to get better. I did this one up tonight and I really felt happy about it. So, I figured I would ask for unbiased opinions and any advice to further my learning. I do know that there is a little issue withthe eyes I am unhappy with, but it would be good to hear others still.

Here it is:

I drew this up on request of a person on a tabletop RPG forum, so if it helps, here is his request:

Verse
6 foot tall surged female elf. Japanese extraction, small on the ears. Well endowed. Small horns on forehead, vestigal "demon" wings. Wears corsetry and short skirts, long fingerless gloves, serious high heel boots. Weapon of choice a fan with hidden blades in the struts.
No obvious tech please.

I was going for a gothy pin up look. Thanks for any advice.

Hi all,

I've been doing inked drawings for a bit, but have been wanting to try adding some tones to give them a more finished feel. I currently do up my stuff like this image here:

I've messed around with just coloring in black and whites in photoshop, and adding screentones never seems to work out right either. Best I've done is to color normally and then convert to grayscale. This dosen't look right, or seem right to me. Looks something like this (unfinished, just to show my meaning, thats where the weirdness in the hand come from):

Anybody have any advice on how to tone this up properly? One problem of my art is that things can get kind of muddled on my larger Illustrations, takes a moment to decipher, I am hoping if I can tone it will help set things apart.

Thanks for any help.

Okay, seriously, this guy offers a paid service where he will draw a picture you send him. I got to looking around, and it's hard not to be skeptical when looking at his gallery. The drawings look like they were made with one of those portrait booths you see in arcades...And reading his crazy requirements makes me even more skeptical.

No real point in this, just wanted to hear others opinoins....

It's a sad thing, but I am selling off one of my oldest guitars.

Reference link: (Not advertising, just showing what I am talking about. My mother posted it, so blame her for the weird and un-pleasant description)
My Guitar

I've had her for about 12 years, played many gigs with her, lent her to to my girlfriend when she left to tenessee once as a sign of commitment. I love this guitar, but am short on cash, It has the sweetest low sound, and it will kill you if you don't know how to fiddle with effects just right (the hollow body can make some crazy feedback if you don't watch it).

I covered the case with stickers of where I've been in my life, and the case was filled with scraps of half written songs, old love letters, and drawings. I feel like I am selling part of my soul here people.

Just wanted to vent, and wondered if anyone else has ever had these feelings attached to a simple, dead object....

Critics' Lounge / Pose help (sketches)
Thu 23/02/2006 01:07:48
Hi again.

I am trying to expand my knowledge and am working on my anatomy and getting the hang of using skeletons to plan out my drawings. I seem to have an issue with hips and legs, they tend to be big and just weird. This particular image I have posted because the pose seems unatural to me, and was wondering if anyone could throw some info my way as to how to improve it. Thanks.

Critics' Lounge / Does this look like a man?
Thu 16/02/2006 04:38:14
Hi all. Again I throw my sketches in here to see if they are up to par. I've got a deal going in another forum where I am drawing folks rpg characters, and I drew this one up for a guy, and was told she looked like a male to female transexual. Ouch, eh? Was wondering your opinions, and maybe some pointers as always. Thanks.

Beyond the normal issues I have, I know the left eye and face are kinda wonky, but it's always good to discuss these things.

Critics' Lounge / Help with sketch, please.
Sun 22/01/2006 06:18:17
Hi all.

I am doing up a sketch here, and am happy with most things except for the face, it appears to manly and I think it has something to do with the jaw. I have tried re-drawing it until I am sick so was kinda hoping you crazy guys could point me in the right direction, and maybe give some tips onthe rest of the image.

It will be inked eventually though, it's still in rough pencil stage, just for the info....

Thanks for any help.

Not sure where to put this, but I have been trying to figure this problem out for a few days....

I want to make a big old screen tone of just tight-lines at a 45 degree angle, a few pixles apart.  Does anybody know to do this?

This is just dumb:

When reading that I thought of all the lame-asses that threaten people with it on online games and forums...

Critics' Lounge / Advice on my art....

Hi. Awhile ago I started up a topic hoping to improve my art:
http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=23387.0
I've since had some time to screw around some and was wanting some more advice, because it does really help me improve.

I'm going for a roleplaying book/comic book style, in black and white, and any advice to get me further down that road will make me rock out with my cock out...

General Discussion / DaVinci?
Sat 26/11/2005 16:44:08
Hi all, again I am asking for some help (ideas).

I've recently got signed on doing concept art for an in-production on-line game. One of my first assignments is to draw all the races (Male and Female) in a mix between my style and DaVinci. I'm not quite sure what that means...Having not studied any classical art whatsoever...

Any ideas?

I recently had my internet turned off. For about two days. I spent those two days unplugging and testing my modem and router in so many different positions it would have made Ron Jeremy proud. No go. See, I didn't know it had been turned off by my phone company, as my bill should have been current. Little did I know.

Heres where I am going with this. I called up the phone company (also my isp) and asked them for a breakdown of my charges. I found out that a company called "Integratel" had signed me up for residential voicemail, about six months ago.

I say to my phone company "I didn't sign up for this, and why the hell is it on my utility bill?!?" I am informed that any company like this can have their bill slapped onto your phone bill, something about it being allowed by the fcc. I have to call this integratel company myself and tell them I am contesting the charges and get a fancy number to give the phone company so they will take it off my bill.

So I call "Integratel". I am ready to chew some ass. I am a pretty mild mannered guy, but I did used to be a jail-house sergeant so I can do pissed off pretty good too. I flat out tell them who I am and that I will not pay any of their bullshit charges, and am told that my wife signed up for it by filling out a survey on the internet at a place called prizewatch.com and they tell me that is considered a valid electronic signature. The phone operator then told me that anyone who fills out a survey is considered to be 18 or over and should know to read the fine print.

Basically after I raised my blood pressure a bit I demanded a dispute number, which they werent going to give me and hung up on the integretal person after making sure she knew they were scam artists and that I would not pay them and would do my best to inform the better buisness burea of their covert tactics....

Heres a breakdown of my issues with this:

1.  Why the hell would my phone company allow anybody to use them as a billing company is beyond me. The fact that it is mixed in with my phone bill lends legitemacy to it and also lets it get missed by folks paying their bill. I think this is how companys like this get away with it. It also means your damn bill gets too high and you get shut off, and that when you dispute the charges you have to do it with tow companys now. The Phone company themselves felt the voicemail company was unethical and scammy, if they have to put it on my bill maybe make a big notice or even call me about it to verify it? Thats a perfect world I know...

2. Their business integratel ( I find so much irony in this name, integrety should have no part of it ) signed me up for voicemail, and never informed me of it, told me how to use it, or anything. What the hell is that?!?!

3. Their main way of getting people signed up to their service is thru a frigging survey website that makes no mention anywhere but in the fine print hidden away somewhere that you would sign up to their service, and they tried to act like this is okay, like they weren't scam artists.  10 points on the bullshit scale...

4. I can't even get voicemail in my area! It dosen't work out here! Blarghetty!

5. I got told about basic internet precautions against problems lke this about 5 times before I was done, even by the people at integretel. This made me feel like they were talking down to me, like I was some naive old granny that never knew what alt-f4 did....

So, this is to inform anyone that didn't know this: If you fill out a survey form on the internet, it can be considered an electronic signature and will allow your ass to be reamed...

I like this pic okay, but was looking for any tips. I need work on women I know, so any tips there would be goodness....

Also, I am currently coloring this, but I think it would be neat to work on a black and white vectorized style. I've heard you can do this with Adobe Illustrator (I think Penny arcade does this), anybody here know anything about this? I am mostly wanting to have cleaner lines, a more professional look.

And I mostly posted this pic because I have recently kinda injured my hand, and it was nice to see I could still, slowly draw.
