This post reminds me I want more Eggie on this forum.

I sketch in a sketch book everyday, and write down little bits of inspiration whenever I can. I can typically comb through that for idea sparks when I need to.

I recently started work on a game, I haven't made one in a long time so I'll mention how I organize all my thoughts nowadays.

1. I make a word doc, and have a linear progression through the game. I start by writing an outline, and go from there. Adding things like possible interesting areas or characters I'd like to fit in. As you can imagine this is an ever changing thing so I write a lot of things that I am unsure of in another color.

2. Draw background sketches and maps to see how it all ties together. This typically leads me to review my previous step as I think of new things. I have a big cork board in my work area so I hang up current concept art there. I also draw characters and try to add in some memorable character at this point.

3. I also keep a word file with a to do list, and a list of character animations required.

4. I like to make my game in chunks, finishing part one before part two. I add dialog and descriptions on the go. Whenever I try to plan it out it feels canned. I test it as I go as well.

So, thats it.

Trapezoid was an AGS user back in the day. Not sure if he ever pokes around here anymore. He provided music to a bunch of games and has released a bunch of music under the band name "Lemon Demon". He also made an internet video that got really popular years ago called "The ultimate showdown of ultimate destiny". He's done other stuff too, but enough about that :)

I'd definitely love to see the reworked version, I think hitting up the vocals will make it much better.

Howdy,

I know of other games that make use of photographs, but their names elude me now.

It actually isn't that hard to get going on game making with AGS. There is a good tutorial in the manual that comes with AGS, and you can find tons of youtube videos about it as well.

Just start small, and you should have lots of fun.

I'm on board with Andail. Especially the shouting part. It seems as if you are simply speaking the part.

It's weird, but the voice filters you are using reminds me a little bit of Trapezoid's music.

The sky seems to be a matter of debate :)

I've since restarted that image. Thank you.

Thanks dude! I tried out your stuff, hope I'm on the right track. I don't think I'll play with parallax right now, trying to keep it simple.

Dude, those things are everywhere :)

I think you have a good start. I'm no pro, but if you have access to a graphic program that uses layers, you could add consistency in areas like the the characters head, that don't need to be redrawn every time.

Okay, changes made. Still not sure about the sky. I originally had the hills the other color because here in Idaho, hills look like that :)

Any more advice folks?

I like it.

I think it would sound better with some adjustments on each portion of the song. And maybe a slightly more confident voice.

But I dig that you used your phone. But you are good enough to put more effort into it, if you wanted to.

Thanks guys!

I will try all the advice given. I'm kinda feeling iffy on the gradient anyway. I tried clouds, but well I did them poorly.

Thanks dude! It's weird right? I'm finally feeling the desire to do it again. I'd love to see you working on some new isometric thing again. That would be like hopping in a time machine.

I have a hard enough time making one ending for my games.

I'm pretty much with you guys, I don't want to totally replay a game for a new ending. Typically I just go youtube the other endings.  There are some caveats though, when it comes to my xbox 360. For some reason, I've replayed games to up my gamer score. Which really has no bearing at all on anything :).

Games like Fallout 3 and New Vegas though, I can replay those all day.
#52
Yes, I agree. I'll make those changes. Thank you.

Andail's home is so organized and uncluttered. I weep in jealousy. I have three kids...kind of a lost cause now.

Heres a shot with thinner lines. Still giving me blurriness inside AGS. I think I will totally start over on those other two.

Thanks. Anybody know what the blurriness in AGS might be?

Congratulations dude!

So far, the game is wonderful. Love the music. I've barely started it though...Man, aliens are a little long winded eh?

I really dig that stapler. Good work.

Hey folks,

I'm working on a new game. I have a good start, but some things bother me about my current art. First, it looks a good bit blurrier in AGS, and second....well it kind of sucks.

My process is to wacom in the lines in photoshop, color on another layer, and add black shade layer that I drop the opacity on. The look is close to what I want, and the work load is bearable. I'm hoping to find some solution that won't add countless hours to my work. The thickness of the black lines is kind of bothering me a bit too.

Here are some samples:

So any advice stylistically or whatever would be appreciated. I don't want to get the game 70% done and hate the art.

Thanks for any help.

I'm thinking the demographics are off for me on this one. I mean, it's cool you collaborated with the guy and made something you were interested in.

Hmmm, I missed that one while I was off impregnating supermodels these last few years. I accept your shameless plug and am downloading now :)
