General Discussion / Re: Lenght in games

Dude, someone needs to make a game that has a crazy long intro, like 15 minutes or something. Then you get control of the character, solve one puzzle and watch a 10 minute ending :)

I had some issues with the download as well. It worked for me after about three tries.
#63
I think I will probably be watching every episode of a show I barely gave a glimpse to on tv, on netflix. And then reading about the lack of world ending the next day on the internet.

Well, I don't think I will. I don't have problems with coming up with the puzzles, they typically show up in my head when I am supposed to be sleeping. To me puzzles are better if they are tied to the world of the game, not just crammed into it.

But it was something I was just contemplating, and wondered if others ever had as well.

---edit----

Well, I am repackaging a "Trapped in a room" puzzle that I was going to use in a game I worked on and never completed called "Stan and Sancho". Since I no longer have the files for it.

Hey folks!

I'm working on a new game, and during the course of designing it, I keep getting this urge to mix in some puzzles from a few of my unfinished games. And that gets me thinking about my completed games....

I don't think I will scavenge any from them, but when your old games are around ten years old it can be sort of tempting. Nobody would ever know :)

Am I the only one to consider this? What are your thoughts guys?

Thanks!

Even in the newest version? Thats amazing. But I feel I need to get with the program.

Giving it another shot, finally found that blade of grass (I use a wacom tablet mouse that moves faster in AGS for some reason and just kept missing it.)

Now I'm stuck right after that, I'll give it some time and come back.

800x600 seems to look just fine. I'm starting to wonder if this is just an issue with my video card or monitor. But the fact that other AGS games play fine has me confused.

I'm okay with doing 800x600 though, as opposed to the x2 filter, which seems to bump the image up into a larger size anyway.
#69
Just tried the X2 filter, and it makes it appear correctly.

I don't receive any error messages, its just that when I run my games they appear letterboxed at all times. Unless I go 640x480 or use that X2 filter.

Which seems weird, I'd love to figure out whats up, I don't really favor the idea of an entire game running on a makeshift solution :)

Thanks for all the help so far.

Yeah, when I try that I see no change than when the box is ticked or not.
#71
That makes it look normal. So I mean, I think I have a fix, but I am still wondering what my deal is.

I tried 320x200 and it did the same letterboxing. This is kind of weird.
#72
Excellent idea! But I still see no differences. And no options that help me.

I wonder what the hell I am doing wrong?

Thanks for all the help so far.

I am unsure of which version they are made from. I've tried Spacemen in space, Lost prince of Lorderan, and Plan M.

Hi all,

I really apologize if this is common knowledge or on a faq somewhere. I have searched a good bit and found no answer so here we are:

I made a test room in the newest AGS, set it to 640x400. I drew up a quick crappy BG at 640x400, 300 dpi. It seems to only display in letterbox. I'm running windows 7, and other AGS games seem to display fine on my widescreen LCD.

I can't figure this out, but I would love to so I can start making some backgrounds, and make my game.

Thanks for any help you provide.

You had me at electrocuting a small child.

-----Edit-----
Played it and loved it. The sidekick thing is a great way to infuse the game with even more silliness. And you pulled it off perfectly.
The puzzles were simple, yet still interesting, and served to move the story forward well.

A+.

I loved the look and feel of the game. It looks excellent.

But sadly, starting the game off with a pixel hunt puzzle is one of my pet peeves. It just kills my desire to continue.

I loved the rest of what I saw though :)

Was it 2.7 the last one before all the scripting changed? Well, whenever that was, it drove me away. I didn't feel like re-learning.

But now I am back, enough time has passed that I can start all over :)

I would Kill Oprah, Bang Ronald Reagan, and marry Hilary Clinton.

Cool, I'd figured times had changed :)

I am wanting to do full speech, hopefully that doesn't bloat up my game size too much.

Howdy folks.

I haven't made a game in a loooooong time. But back then there seemed to be a stigma with making your game with a large file size. I see AGS now supports even higher resolution, and I am tempted to use it.

So with the passing of time has this standard changed? Is is okay to create large games?

Thanks.
