Completed Game Announcements / Re: Downfall
Mon 07/09/2009 21:17:04
Just got this the other day from the labour day sale over at Wadjet Eye. I don't want any spoilers from the game, but can anyone tell me if I'm safe to place this on my laptop (ie theres no awkward/silly death points or time challenges), or would I be better on my main rig, with a mouse?

This is annoying me now, because I feel like the hints are staring me in the face

Spoiler
I can't seem to attach the chain to anything in my inventory or to anything in the area, and so I can't either jump across the gap, or abseil into the cave

Any help would be appreciated. Cheers

General Discussion / Re: The good old days???
Mon 07/09/2009 03:37:47
I've been here on and off for the past 5 years. It's the only community I really come back to. I might've missed "the good old days", but there are some good times I've had geeking on here, and some worthy topics to contribute too. I can never guarantee I will always be active, sometimes I come on here for a brief while and disappear for long periods of time, but I know I will never leave (which may be considered unfortunate  ;) )

Unfortunately my infrequency on the forums means I never know where I stand with some people, as chances are they don't remember me from the last time I was here ( I was up until a few months ago inactive for about 2 years).

Its a good place to be and I don't understand why people feel the need to permanently disappear in the first place.

Tut Dave, you spelt my name wrong. There are two ways of spelling Stephen wrong, Steven when its spelt Stephen and Stephen when its Steven. You seem to have invented a third: Stephan (in the manual, I haven't booted the game up yet).

Don't worry I'll forgive you, If you forgive me for having to bail the last 2 days before release to get university work done.  ;)

Hi folks,

I'm looking for a good artist to work on some backgrounds and characters for a series of short sci-fi games I am making. Other than good art skills, you will have to be keen on the idea that this stuff will be released open source. My plan is to release the source for every episode after the following episode is in development (I'm working on the second episode story now, so this one will be instant). There just isn't enough open source material available for AGS, and I'm hoping to have some stuff worthy enough to change that.

This first episode Im working on consists of 8 backgrounds (6 locations, 2 close up cutscenes), 7 characters and a hovering sprite, of which only 3 characters need to be animated and 7 inventory items. It is a pretty short game to test the market for future episodes in the series (all of which will be open source).

I am currently creating some programmer art (I really can't draw), just in case it helps the cause.

I'm hoping this will at the least help aid others in the development of their own titles if nothing else. PM me if your interested.

EDIT: Liked the dude below me's "boldifying" of words

Dave you legend!

I have no idea what labour day is or most of your strange American customs, but this is excellent! I Just nabbed Downfall and the Latest Blackwell, as I never really had the time to go through them.

Cheers Dave!

This looks pretty good, especially for a first timer. I really hope you do get this finished, so many of these end up going down the plughole.

And "color" is spelt "colour" and "favor" is spelt "favour".  ;)

That's a huge pet peeve of mine.  :P

Woohoo I got a trophy! I didn't win but I at least came in the top four for once! Thanks G!

(And for all you sarcastic gits, yes I am well aware there were only 2 entries)

And marking the cracked save file so it won't work with a genuine release and they have to start again from scratch.

KhrisMUC, maybe you should replace the Euro-Sign with a Dollar-Sign  ;)

Looks great, in my opinion.

Maybe you should replace it with a £ sign  ;)
#253
Is it strictly art only? Or will you be looking to expand to other things (ie coding, writing etc). Im not an artist  :(

I will definitely have a look and sign up though. It'll have to wait til tomorrow, I'm off to bed.

Happy Birthday Leon! I'd love to have 2 Birthdays a year! However does that mean you are only actually 20?  :P

Sweet I've got an idea. Hopefully I actually manage to make something.

I think they converged in her black well.

You see that's the problem with m0ds. He's ruled By The Sword. And he doesn't care about Collateral Jelly.

At the end, he sold the plans and the prototypes to OCP.

Was it called robocrop?

I also member those little filofax things that were made popular around the late 90s, that were similar. I had some spy one, and then I remember some other agent one I had. If I recall you bought the little ringbinder, then bought the parts to it I think. The agency one came with tapes, All I remember was that it was the same concept as those books.

*********

You didn't take the viagra, go to page 46 to progress with Princess Mylfthrin of Mordor's advances

***Turns to pages 46***

Unlucky, your purple headed womb ferret failed to materialise. Mylfthrin did not bear an heir and you've been scheduled for execution by the King. Maybe if you thought more about your organ rather than dressing up in silly superhero costumes and attending geek conferences, you might get somewhere in life

***The end****

Quote from: monkey_05_06 on Thu 27/08/2009 20:22:16You fool! Now you've gone and rigged the voting! Now everyone is going to vote for those two just because you worked on them!!! :P

Quote from: Stee on Thu 27/08/2009 22:51:53For Sci-Fi, Im voting for The mission.

...my decision sits solely with A Hero's Tale...

Quote from: Trihan on Fri 28/08/2009 04:13:29I vote for The Mission and A Hero's Tale.

Okay...who called it? I did! ;D

My vote is for Oran's Awakening. The ending I didn't feel was as strong as the rest of it, but it still held together a lot better than Charming Forest. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the same people from Be Quiet worked on Oran's Awakening.

Overall I loved all the stories. It was great fun writing and reading all of them (yeah...that's right I worked on all of them... ::) :P). We should do this again sometime.

Err, Why do I care what Phemar worked on? I don't know the guy, and I honestly couldn't remember which two he had mentioned when writing my "mini review".

I voted for the 2 I felt worked. To be honest like I said both the Parody ones broke the rules of the thread in my opinion, so if you really feel that way inclined, you can talk Vince into considering all votes null and void for that category. Personally I felt it was only fair that the teams hard work gets acknowledged regardless.

So... suck it up, and take it like a man, biatch  :P

It's not my fault that you clearly worked on the other 2 and you're scared of losing  ;D
