The one thing that threw me off two worlds was the horse riding was awful to control. Which is frustrating enough at the start of a game to stop playing it. Although if it is the game I think it is it had an interesting plot. Something to do with medieval portals right?

Urban Chaos is an excellent game, and indeed an underrated (almost unknown I guess) hidden gem.

Duke Nukem Forever doesn't need more credit. Its been "in development" for so long, its no surprise it got killed off. Only the hardcore fans remain, and the ones still naive enough to believe it was ever going to come out in the first place. If you fucked around in a game studio for as long as they did, and were still getting paid by your publisher for 12 (I think it was 12) years, then I would shake your hand, as you've acheived the dream job. Lots of money, little work.

Im not blaming anyone specifically for DNF, but lets face it, someone, somewhere in that chain of people fucked up big time, and the only surprise is that it lasted as long as it did. The series had been quiet for so long the sales figures would've paled in comparison to the previous games.

And for conspiracy theorists.... DNF = Did Not Finish  :D

The Witcher, one of the best RPGs out there. The story for that game was excellent. An example of a company that actually puts effort into their games.

Wadjeteyegames - aka Blackwell series,Emerald City, Shivah. Theres a guy I have a lot of respect for. Cheers Dave.

Still Life - Just started playing a few days ago. I loved it... until that robot puzzle with the lasers started to piss me off. If anyone wants to provide me with a save past that point feel free.  ;)

Unfortunately, I don't play many games anymore. I'd love to say its because I don't have the time (I dont actually and shouldnt be playing some of them lol), but the truth is... who can name a truly good game out there now. They are all so repetitive.

I enjoyed Yakuza on the ps2 if anyone ever played that.

PS:
Saints Row 2 was better than GTAIV
Wheelman was too short.
Godfather 2 was too short.
Im still playing velvet assassin (sort of).

I thought Japan also used the gregorian calendar anyway?

@Chris : I'd assume it would be something like "Heisei 23/6/1" as a long date and 23/6/1/ for short. Just like we have dates like 1/6/09 when it should be 1/6/2009

Still $3495 is a lot of money right? I could buy a car with that!  :P

EDIT: Just to avoid confusion (and so I look at least 0.1% less of a prat)

I believe it is to do with The number of years the emperor has reigned for. e.g if the current emperor is in his 20th year of reign the it would be 20/m/d or 20/d/m (don't know which way round)

I've set up uploading again on my site, although a slightly different approach

You can access the download section and upload a download to the "unmoderated files section".

This will then be virus scanned and moved to the appropriate category.

Of course if you have issues you can pm me here, or use the feedback form on the site.

Happy Thanksgiving  ;D

Seriously though, I'd like to thank:

Dave Gilbert - Your Games are Amazing, and well worth the hole in my pocket.

Darth Mandarb - For being the most patient mod on the planet. I remember a couple of times I've broken the rules in my time, asI'm sure most of you have, and he doesnt treat you like a dick (although you probably are).

Progzmax - An artist if ever I knew one. I really enjoyed Mind's Eye, and got round to playing Limey Lizard a few weeks ago (although havent got round to finishing it)

Grundislav - Ben Jordan.

The Ivy - I really enjoyed Spooks, even though the first thing that came to mind when i clicked on its completed game announcement all that time ago was the brilliant bbc tv series that it has no relation to whatsoever. Little Girl in Underland was strange and different, Nanobots was awesome, I enjoyed both also.

CJ - Because this whole community is redundant without his hard work

Sektor13 - I played his stargate adventure and enjoyed it until i got stuck/ there was a bug (i cant remember which). I still desperately want to play his other 2 games, although I feel the filesize indicate something to do when i have more time on my hands.

Bernie - I loved Reactor 09

Iceman - For Da New Guys, The 3D Video, and DNG2, whichI'm sure one day he'll get round to finishing.

And to OneDollare / 66p at the time of writing - for making the excellent Breakdown, whose only annoying factor was that the game ad to finish

And just becauseI'm getting tired trying to remember the other games I really enjoyed over the years andI'm sure there are, I'd like to thank all of you for putting up with my bullshit, and providing me with an interesting community, which is why I have never really left.

Huge gap in the market. The only 2 adventure games im aware of for the iphone are Myst and 1112. 1112 was ok (it wasn't much of a game as much as an interactive story). Myst I played on the pc a long time ago and never enjoyed it.

Unfortunately I dont have a Mac, and im not a great fan of the toolchain as it requires a jailbroken iphone (id rather throw something at the app store)

Hi as you may or may not be aware from my other posts, I am attempting to resurrect my old website at http://www.agsn.co.uk

It was a resource for freeware indie games, mainly point and click and sim games. The idea im aiming to acheive now is to incorporate all forms of indie games free and commercial into a sort of independant Gamespot type website. The site will provide news, previews and reviews, will offer a downloads resource for all you folks, a hints/tips/cheats/walkthroughs section, and im considering something unique about the account page (I dont know what yet).

Anyway the first thing I would like critique on is the layout im planning for the site. Ignore the quality of drawing, its not exactly my forte

If thats a little unclear http://www.agsn.co.uk/img004.jpg - warning large image!!!

the boxes with the little triangles on the top are the drop down menus on the nav bar. They only become present when you mouseover a menu button.

The second half of the page is a rough draft of ideas for a reviews page.

Any criticism is welcome. Even if it is "It's Shit!!!"

Well, at least we know Duke Nukem Forever is going to live up to its name  ;)

I find it quite strange that its constantly stated that "The Games Industry is one of the few industry that is still booming in the current economic climate", and yet in the past three weeks we've seen at least 5 well known companies go under.

I really feel for the staff of empire that have worked for the last 2 months without a wage packet. There has to be some law against this

Hi guys, I dont know if any of you ever remember my website, or ever visited it. It is/was an Indie Games resource on the web, that contained a large amount of games, some reviews and several interviews.I also hosted a couple of website for other people developing games. The last 3-4 years+ its been a soulless archive of what once was (I thought so anyway) an enjoyable resource.

I thought all was lost when my backup disks disappeared into the abyss (most of them still are), luckily whilst at my folks over the holidays I discovered some buried treasure (well, it was buried amongst other crap), one of the backup disks. I shoved it into the laptop, and despite scratches and the test of time, was amazed to find it still worked. Its only a small portion of the sites files, but better than nothing I guess.

Regardless, I would like to bring AGSN back from the dead. I am however wanting to avoid the repetitive drone of phpnuke, joomla etc websites that are already out there and Im planning to work on my own small scale one from scratch.

Problem is, Im not exactly a veteran in php/mysql, nor can i draw to save my life, so was wondering if anyone would like to join this conquest with me.

I will also further down the line be looking for contributors to the content itself, as it was a big task to manage by myself.

Any help would be vastly appreciated, I look forward to hearing from any of you.
;)

When creating accounts to periodically bump your game's threads in the completed games and hints and tips boards, you should probably not make them rhyme so that it isn't so obvious.

It's true that I have asked some people to post here to bump the thread to the top, but I have no control over the names of the accounts that they create.  If the mods have any problem with this, they can check the IP addresses of the posters.

Any idiot can use proxies. Well done

Thanks, I will definitely check that book out. I bought a book called "game drawing for beginners" or something and it was awful so I gave it to a mate of mine (he's one of those ex art college people). Essentially I'm just pondering whether to get a graphics tablet, but I suppose I should see how serious I get into drawing first.

Its an interesting divide we have (scanners/tablets/digital) Anyone else want to share?

typo..

"....so you can always visit see the Marvels of the Universe for less than thirty Altairan dollars a day."

Does it have a stylus, or is it made by Apple to exclude anyone with a normal sized finger from operating it?  :D

There are nice spaces on the borders to incorporate a stylus holder.

And just to be a pain (if you really are going for realism), I can't touch any of the keys without mashing between 2 and 4 at a time (excluding the space bar). I measured the height of the image on my screen to be roughly the same as my phone (which isn't touch, but I  worked out the buttons are slightly bigger)

I know... I'm an asshole  ;)

Heaven's Gate

This would be extra cool if your character Malakey is a bit retarded and decides to sacrifice kill himself at the end.

I like the ring to that. Not that I'm biased or anything

Just curious as to people's styles etc and how people  do things. What I'd like to know:

Do you digitally draw in an art package like photoshop etc and if so are you hardcore and use the mouse, or a perfectionist and use a graphics tablet?

OR

Do you hand draw your stuff and then scan them in using the trusty flatbed?

What graphics software(s) do you use?

AND Finally, that good old favourite:

How long does it take you to finish a character/background?

I'm just curious. The only game I ever made was a small demo (not even sure if I released it on here), At the time I had no Graphics Tablet and no Scanner, so everything had to be done the hard way. From what I remember some of the backgrounds used dodgy photoshop filters/textures to save time, and the one character I did was a rip off paintover of a RON character out of the insta-kit.
Suffice to say it was shite.

Now however, even though I still have no artistic ability, I have a super duper all in one printer which has a scanner, so I can do things the old fashioned way. Also you seem to be able to get (albeit small) graphics tablets fairly cheap.

Just wondering since in a couple of months I'll have a bit more time on my hands, and if things don't go to plan (ie no job) a LOT of time on my hands so I may start AGS-ing again.

So Spill...... :)

I prefer the first one too, but I wouldn't take my artistic expertise to hand since I don't actually have any. Would it be possible to see the second tone on the first image and first tone on second?

QuoteI don't really understand what you are saying. Does C# not allow global variables and other nasty habits? I wouldn't know, because I didn't get into it. But when I was learning the basics, my professor(s) would insist on this matter: "This is how you do it, but DON'T do it", to sum it up. Even so, something always exists for a reason, and sometimes things like macros or global variables can be a powerful tool when you know how to use them wisely.

C# allows global variables, and we we're taught "this is how you do it but don't do it" too. We are just taught better ways of calling variables outside a class.
