Yeah I'm running on a laptop, as I'm not at home on my main rig for another couple of weeks. Its a dell inspiron 1720, which has a num pad and the normal keys. I will go have a quick test anyway,I'm sure i've tried that. And ill turn off num lock just to be sure.................

UPDATE: Nope same problem. I d/led the media fire one, will give the other one a try when i  get the time to retrace my steps.

I would like to say im actually starting to enjoy the game, despite my first impressions. The idea of a game about working in an office, graphics (no offence there better than i could ever do) and the "first game" scenario didn't really appeal to me and never really has so congrats and convincing me to give first timers a shot, as I can be quite stubborn on that front, and an enjoyable game.

If only I had the time to make my own...

Engine Development / Re: AGS Wii Port?
Sat 18/04/2009 20:47:45
Whilst the iphone is quite expensive, it has an sdk which is a big appeal to developers. Im starting to look forward to my contract upgrade, where im considering an lg renoir kc910. LG have recently stated that they are working on releasing an sdk, it would be nice to be able to do this, and if my programming skills improve enough in the next 6-12months I would consider contributing to a LG port, and if its possible a J2ME port (im programming in java mainly so this would be an advantage).

As for the Wii and most modern phones although there is no AGS engine, there are (hard to find albeit) tutorials on developing games in flash for these consoles (not that im a fan of flash either im afraid, but actionscript 3 is a whole world better than 2).

So J2ME port. Is it possible? Its going to be a mammoth task at least converting all the c++ into java.

I think it would be a good idea, since the mobile phone is steadily becoming a popular platform for games (casual ones at least), this being proven with engines already out there for 2d and 3d iphone development and the release of new arm cpu/gpus, in particular the new arm mali 200 and 400 which is supposedly being incorporated into phones this year and next (they apparently support opengl 2)

So it wasn't Christmas or New Years.  It was 10 days after by birthday.  I had remembered it being around a 'special' occasion. :P

This other article: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/1999/05/24/BU107617.DTL

Said it attacked 300,000 computers in China alone.  11,000 in U.S.

Wow, guess i was lucky then. None of our computers died, but i guess i could have had a clean version.

Anyway Happy Birthday! Its 3am here.

Really? It was harmless. Never touched my comp. Maybe someone sent you a dodgy infected version?

Not really embarassing, but Im back home for easter hols and since my room is now "the storage room" were everyone kindly dumps their junk, I'v noticed a couple of floppy disks on my fathers desk that he doesnt even use, next to his computer (that he also doesnt use)

Here's oneI'm particularly proud of, beware its quite a large file so i haven't img tagged it

http://www.agsn.co.uk/16042009038.jpg

A particularly embarassing one, but im sure i was too old for it to be mine. At least its better than what was originally on it

http://www.agsn.co.uk/16042009039.jpg

Anyone remember joecartoon and the frog in a blender animation?

http://www.agsn.co.uk/16042009041.jpg

And the sequel to it Gerbil in a microwave?

http://www.agsn.co.uk/16042009043.jpg

Its a shame really I dont have a floppy drive anymore (whats the point?). I do however have loads of floppies with mouse drivers on them. How many mice do you go through exactly?

If you want embarassing though, i've left hard drives i don't use anymore unformatted and "backup cd's" lying around here, and i know my folks snoop around. Not good when theyre filled with porn  :-\

thanks for the response, I'm glad I was notified before i did something stupid  ;D

I have a question. At the risk of sounding stupid, wtf is a hidden object game? Is it someones idea of an adventure game that takes 5mins to make and consequently complete like it think it is, those stupid pixel hunt puzzles people put into games to annoy you all combined into one game?

Im too scared to actually try one as it sounds like something that will make me want to blow my own brains out.

I never understood why it has become popular for gamers to hate Peter Molyneux...  Is it because Yahtzee does?
Coz, from where I'm sitting, the guy has been behind some pretty good games.. and dare I say fairly inovative for their respective times.  I know Fable didn't quite live up to everyone's overblown expectations, but it that's the reason for all the hate then I feel sorry for the guy.

Generally that came about when he sold his soul to Microsoft. An Innovative company being taken over and destroyed by a corporate giant whose goal is nothing more than to make money being the consensus.

Its hard to argue too when you compare his softography pre M$ and post M$.

Could anyone from the UK answer this question for me?
Feel free to answer it if you are from elsewhere but I'm particularly interested in UK results...  it's for a Linguistics exercise.

What word do you use for carbonated soft drinks?

Some people say 'soda', 'pop', or 'fizzy drinks'.
What term do you use? Is it something else entirely?

I'm plotting the results on a map of the UK so could you also please say which county or city you are from.
Thanks in advance guys. :)

im from the wirral (NW) uk. And the term I use is BEER. Although we used to say pop when we were kids and drank lemonade/orangeade etc.

Coke is coke.

Soda is different. Its an american equivalent to pop, but it has far more sugar, caffeine and other "you're going to die before you reach puberty" ingredients.  ;D

Removing the nag screen is considered circumventing copy protection. Whilst what you do or not do is not a concern of mine, im pretty sure that its against the rules to post this stuff. However if you remove the bit about removing the nag screen, you've pretty much covered yourself.

Just a polite heads up before the mods eat you alive  ;D

On a slightly different note, I have always wanted to pluck up the courage to go to a sitcom and laugh really loudly at the unfunny parts.

Sorry progzmax i prefer the canned laughter,it doesnt make it funnier but makes it more lighthearted. You try watching virtually all the comedians out there without the laughter of the audience and i guarantee you wont be happy. To be honest half of them are painful to watch regardless. Besides its the whole ethos of Red Dwarf cheap laughs for a cheap show. Which brings me back on to the topic of using the old sets again....

General Discussion / Re: LCDs
Mon 13/04/2009 22:16:45
The only problem I ever had was getting vista to run 320x200, but I assume that's fixed now. Everything else looked the way it normally did.

I prefer LCD's, I got a 22" a couple of Xmas' back and haven't looked back since. I love the HD quality in films and TV too. Now I also have my shiny dell laptop to play with (an 8600m in it), and whilst not as good quality as my main rigs lcd (the viewing angles are poor which makes watching stuff in bed a tad tricky and the Ultra glossy seems to reflect the wifi and power lights in the dark) its brilliant for what I need.

Things I get with an LCD

1.Clearer Picture Quality
2. Higher Res and HD
3. Lots of Space

Things I dont get with an LCD

1. Headaches
2. Space
3. Decent Viewing Angle (dependant on the LCD however,I'm assuming most lappies have crappier lcds due to space restriction)

In my opinion LCD's are far superior and at the prices they are at now well worth upgrading to. If you fork out a tad extra you get HDMI inputs, meaning you can plug your ps3 and 360 into them meaning you can ditch the tv completely (thus saving more room). I would suggest however not getting an LCD TV/Monitor combo and just getting a monitor. If you want TV stick a tv card in the computer. Theyre quite cheap these days too.

In my student house, I rarely go into the living room now. A job last year, whilst effecting my studies (i messed up a whole year and had to resit and change course) meant I had the spare cash to spend on luxuries. I have a Logitech 5.1 sound system hooked up to a x-fi xtrememusic, a 22" Monitor and a DVBT (Freeview) TV card in my main rig. I got the old Logitech G15 keyboard (I preferred the old one and it had blue lights that match up to everything else) and a gaming mouse and I never looked back. Essentially my bedroom is everything.

Anyway back on topic. I would say get an LCD, preferably one with 1080p support (1920x1200), which is 24"+. If you have a 360 or ps3 get hdmi ports and a set of decent speakers. I buy things in stages as it can end up getting quite steep. I started off with the LCD, then the Speakers, tv card, then soundcard. I am a very happy bunny.

Of course as most peopleI'm never satisfied and when I hopefully move out at the end of the year into a new place, with hopefully a new job (my folks thinkI'm coming back home which would drive me insane if that happens) i intend on getting another monitor and having a dual setup.

Of course if you only play strictly ags games and other 2d/ low res stuff why bother? Im just a greedy bastard.

EDIT: If your UK this is a brilliant monitor, although no hdmi inputs http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?SAM-SM2433

If your rich, I'd love to have one of these. Send one my way if you found my post useful: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?DLL-3008
