Hello, I was wondering if anyone could either PM/email me a download of The Shivah (original, not delux version), or give me a link to a site with the download. Thanks.

How do you create MP3 music like that found in the Apprentice. I know they didn't get a live band or something, and they used a program. Can someone tell me how to do music like that, or give me a link to a tutorial, or a program or SOMETHING? Sorry if I sound like a n00b.Ã,  ;D

I know people are going to say 'Look in the database', but the ranking system isn't all that great. I'm looking for some AGS games (preferably 2004 and older). I need to know of some good games, because I don't want to judge a game just by it's ranking.

Which one do you think is better? I prefer graphic because there is a lot more detail put into the game. I hate the games where you have to type however, like The Black Cauldron or KQ1. Those are SOOOO annoying.

Critics' Lounge / Reggae Songs for C&C
Fri 04/08/2006 18:13:12
I know these may not be as high quality as Oz's  ::), but they are MIDI and are the best quality I can get (however, the second one is an MP3 recorded from MIDI to get the 'concert style' echo effect). The second one is also compressed with WinRar.

A while ago, I read anÃ,  article stating that Bob Marley became a Christian a few months before he died. I was curious as to whether or not this was a rumour, since the site I read it on is not a well known site. I think it would be interesting and enlightening to hear some other opinions on this, and get some good discussion going.Ã,  :)

Oops! Can a moderator please delete the post below this one (the one with the same subject)? I accidentally posted twice.  ::) Thanks!  ;)

Two things I need some help with:

1. I got a new PC without Java, when i try to install it, it says "cannot find j150000.cab". Can someone either email me that file, or give me a non-broken download link?

2. I keep getting screwy messages like 'Windows has found 55 errors, go to regfixit.net to get rid of them'. But every time it has a different amount of errors and a different site. It's been doing that since I got the new computer, so I suspect it's something wrong with the way they set the thing itself up, or else a screwy Windows 200 install.

Can anyone help with these things (especially the first!)?

Thanks,

Yoda

General Discussion / Need help with DirectX
Thu 13/07/2006 21:23:27
I got a computer upgrade and kept my old hard drive on the same tower, but in the new PC, I have DirectX 8.1, and a certain program needs a higher version of that. On the old PC I had DirectX 9 or something higher than 8.1. My question is: can someone show me how to get the DirectX 9 onto the new one and install it over DirectX 8.1? Thanks.

Could anyone here show me some techniques to animate clay for a game? I tried but it's too hard to cut out the stuff I don't want in the picture.

General Discussion / MSPaint question

Not sure if this is the right place to post, but oh well. How do I create a transparent background color? I looked in the manual for Paint but I couldn't find anything.  :'(

Critics' Lounge / Reggae/Tropical tunes
Wed 05/07/2006 20:07:31
I am definitely going to use all of these in my game, but I was wondering what some of you thought. The first one is a party style song:
http://s2.gimehost.com/v/2632712/reggae2.mid

The second is a remix of an old tune from my first game that I'm using in this one:

A reggae loop:

Another reggae loop:

This is my first attempt at reggae so if it's not that good, it's my fault.  ;D

I thought I'd let everyone here know about this; it's a unique thing for the amateur gaming community to take part in...

David Smith: Private Investigator is almost finished! We are getting two to three music tracks made PER DAY, and will probably polish up some things in the game. Overall, we are about 75% done. So, there will be a few events on the Dogmadaygames chat room (chat.deviantart.com/chat/DogmaDayGames) leading up to and before the games release. Here are some things that I have planned at the moment:

JULY 8th, 1:00PM to 3:00PM
General event. Do whatever you want. Come on down and meet the team of the game!

JULY 22nd, 1:00PM to 5:00PM
This is the date that we will (hopefully) release a sample of the game. Get over here and par-tay!

JULY 31st, ALL DAY
This is the tentative release date of the game. Par-tay even more.

I hope to have at least a few of the other team members come on these dates.

NOTE: These times are Pacific Time.

How do I pan down/up/left/right with a camera type thing like they have in LucasArts games? I looked around the forums but couldn't find anything.

I'm writing for Alliance (who never hangs out here too often), who is making a remake of SQ3. I'm not 100% sure of his team, but I do know that some guy that calls himself Vroomfondel is going to be the project leader. Alliance himself is doing background art at the moment. Unfortunately at this point, I can only give one screenshot. If this is locked because of that, I can wait until thee are more screens and the moderators can unlock it. Here is the info on it, taken from the forum of it (http://z4.invisionfree.com/dogmadaygames/index.php?act=idx):

All right,
Now all of you know we're remaking Space Quest III. You've all probably played it, if not, you can probably go find it somewhere.
So, let's get started.
7-1-06
Some initial progress has been done. First off, I'd like to congratulate Vroomfondel for joining the team as our writer. I'm currently doing the background art (I really don't want to) until I can find someone better, or somebody just offers.
Here is our first official screenshot of the game:

More updates as this development continues!

I'm not sure if I should have posted this on the CL or not, but I don't really want this critiqued, I'm just wondering if anyone would go for this type of game. So here goes:

It will probably be in black and white, the backgrounds will be taken from photos and manipulated, there will be no dialogue basically, except for a narrator. The 'look' of the game will be strange and old-looking.

I've been pondering this for a while, and I think we should have more categories for AGS awards. For example: say there is a game with excellent backgrounds, but average sprites. Then there's another game with awesome sprites and mediocre backgrounds. One of them could possibly win the "best Art" award. But we should have two separate art awards: best sprites, and best backgrounds. We should also have an award for best voice acting. I mean, people hire actors and do all that hard voice work etc. but they don't have a chance of getting anything for it. Last, I'm not sure if we are doing this already, but we should have a best animation award. *Don't murder me if we already do, I haven't followed the award things in the past, so I don't know what all the awards are.*

Here it is: the first ever photography competition (btw moderators, I posted in general discussion and lots of people wanted to do this)! This week's theme is:

ADVENTURE GAME PHOTOGRAPHY

Recreate anything from a commercial adventure game. This can ONLY be the recreation of an adventure game background. Originally, dressing up was allowed, but it got pretty stupid, so dressing up is from now on, NOT ALLOWED.

THE TECHNICAL DETAILS:

Digital camera photography is allowed. Photo editing is allowed. NO RIPPING THINGS OUT OF A GAME! The re-creation of backgrounds must be an actual photo. Hope you enjoy this first photo comp, and if the dealine os too short, I can extend it. The winner of this comp gets to set the rules of the next comp.

General Discussion / Ideas for competitions
Mon 12/06/2006 00:56:08
I had two ideas for a competition and was wondering if anyone would want to do something like this:

1. A photography competition, the winner gets to set the topic of the next round.

2. A short film competition (the film is no longer than two minutes or so). Same type of thing.

I have been looking for the "Mordy" game by Mordalles, but I can't find them in the database, and Mordalles' list of games he has made doesn't have them on it! I also looked on the "server with all the ags games on it", which is this: http://aafiles.bicycle-for-slugs.org/full/ but I couldn't find them. Can someone help?

I've decided to take a bit of a break from working on David Smith: Private Investigator (but I still am working on it now and then), and to start working on:

THE CRATER

The game's storyline:

You play as John Tobias, an archaeological expert, christian, and now astronaut. You have been sent, along with two other men, to investigate an asteroid which has had reports of life on it. Little do you, or any of your crew know, that there is far more in store than mere life...

Here are some screenshots:

STATUS REPORT:

Sprites and characters: 12%
Animations: 5%
Backgrounds: 2%
Storyline: 75%
Music/Sound: 0%

FEATURES:
*High quality backgrounds!
*LucasArts style characters!
*High-resolution of 640 by 480!
*A cast of voice actors!
*Orchestrated music (if we can get it)!

If you want to voice act or do music, PM me.
I am doing this game all by myself so it could take quite some time to make. I hope to get more screenshots up soon.
