This game has already been mentioned briefly by Redwall here:
http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=29793.0...
...but I'm still a bit hazy on the rules of digging up old threads.

Anyway.  Is anyone else really looking forward to this game?... It has been in development for ages and is supposedly the first in a trilogy.  The screens look beautiful and the characters have a wonderful (almost Broken-Sword-esque) charm to them.

Seeing as though I'll (hopefully) be studying Japanese at uni by the end of this year - which will no doubt include a fair chunk of Japanese history as well as the language - this game is right up my street.

There is an interview with the development team here:
http://gry.o2.pl/publicystyka/?co=pokaz&id=213...
...with some screenshots and character portraits thrown in the mix.

The team's website http://www.abborado.com/ has all the same pictures and is a gorgeous website to have a look at if you haven't already.

There doesn't seem to be a release date as such.  Just "2008" is all I can find...

General Discussion / Jury Service
Fri 11/01/2008 15:42:53
I've been summoned for Jury service for the second time, and I'm only 24.
Last time I was summoned was 3 years ago, and you can only get out of it if you did it less than 2 years ago.
Thing is I am doing an important course at the moment, trying to get into university next year.  I don't really want this pink piece of paper ruining my chances of that.

Has anyone else here ever done Jury duty?  It's quite an interesting experience, but I don't really want to have to do it again.

General Discussion / NatWest bank are immoral.
Wed 14/11/2007 20:46:45
When I can back from Japan I had £10.20 in my bank account.  Before I had a chance to put any money in there I got a letter through the door saying that I was to be charged a £28 "Maintenance charge", because I had let my account go below £0.00 and I don't have an agreed overdraft... now I can fully understand why I might be obliged to pay a little something for letting that happen... but 28 quid???... a fiver perhaps I wouldn't mind.

Apparently it's a "Standard Charge".

Anyway, a few days later I got another letter through the door saying they were going to take another 38 quid... What for? I didn't go below zero twice.... thing is this was a separate charge apparently for the fact that they had tried to take a payment and my funds couldn't cover it...

Potayto Potarto.

So they wanted to take 66 pounds off me, two penalties for the same offense, basically.

Anyway, I rang up the bank, spoke to several people and managed to get a nice Brummiw bloke to rescind the 38 pound charge, which was bloody decent and you could tell he was embarrassed to be working for one of the biggest con syndicates in the country. But I still had to pay that first 28.

Anyway, after this debacle I've been borrowing off my mum to make sure it doesn't happen again.. but guess what... this morning I open an envelope and they (not even politely) state that they're taking £28 out of my bank again... without even telling me the reason for it.

They cant get way with it this time.  NatWest are morally bankrupt.  I feel a little bit guilty that I'm moaning about 28 pounds here and there, when they are ripping other people off for thousands, but it's 28 pounds I haven't got spare and if they dont back off for a few months until I can get my new job underway and start earning some money, then theyr'e gonna keep pulling this on me every month.

Cunts!

I can't draw characters, so I've gone for this brand of 'through the eyes' humour.

Critics' Lounge / Short Horror Story
Sat 03/11/2007 23:40:49
Hi guys.  I'm looking for a bit of feedback on this short story I have written as part of my English Language course.

I know some of you like a good horror/suspense.  I'm interested in your opinions as a reader of the genre.  More technical comments are welcome but I'm more interested in what you think as a member of the target audience.

The Story is here and is currently untitled

Any and all comments will be welcome but please bear in mind for the purposes of my course I'm more interested in what you feel as a member of the audience reading it.

Questions to think about:
a) Did the beginning capture your attention?
b) Did the middle section hold your attention?
c) Was the ending satisfying?
d) Were the characters believable?
e) Was the story well-paced?
f) Did you think the story was suitable for it's intended audience and medium (horror/suspense magazine/anthology).
g) Did you predict the little twist at the end?
h) What would you have done differently if it was your story?
i) What was your favourite component (characters, setting, storyline etc)?
j) What was your least favourite component?
k) Did any part of the story make you think or reflect in any way.  If so what triggered it and what did you think about?
l) If you could give the story a name, what would you call it?

No one is in any way obliged to answer all or any of these questions, but these are the kinds of things I will find helpful.
Thank you to everyone who may or may not respond.

General Discussion / tv-links.co.uk Shut Down
Mon 22/10/2007 16:21:47
I noticed this site wasn't working the other day, but hat's nothing new, they quite often went down for a few days here and there.

But then I looked at their Wikipedia entry and found out they'd been shut down.

Here is a link to the Guardian Unlimited article about it.

http://business.guardian.co.uk/story/0,,2195407,00.html

This is a disgrace... they were not hosting any illegal material, just pointing us in the right direction.

What does everyone else think about this travesty?

General Discussion / Having a website.
Sun 21/10/2007 02:57:16
I want to get my website off the ground.  I don't really have any services to offer, nor do I have much in the way of original material to showcase (but I do hope to build a portfolio of stuff - writing, photography etc - over the coming year).  Really, I just want to have a webiste.

Web design is something I've always had a niggling interest in but rarely the time to do anything about it.  I suppose I'm after two things really...

1) Inspiration - What does everybody else have in their websites?  Do you offer a service? What can I include that will make my site worth visiting?

2) Tips - What ways can I make web-building easier on myself.  I know some basic html and some even more basic css, but I don't want to get bogged down in scripting if I can help it.  I haven't got a lot of time on my hands.

My site is currently a bit of a mess, but the idea is there, and now I'm back from Japan I just wanted to start again really, and do it properly this time.

General Discussion / NaNoWriMo
Sat 20/10/2007 04:08:13
It's that time of year again.
Is anybody going to be attempting it this year?

For anybody who doesn't know NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month and is held from November 1st - 30th and the idea is for participants to try to write a novel (well 50,000 words) in that space of time.

I'm going to have a go... although I don't think I even reached 2000 last year.. hahaha.

It's a great creative exercise though and I reckon we should all have a go and talk about it in this thread.

What-say-you?

I've been doing some research and I'm now pretty clued up on what a default gateway is, but I still can't seem to find the answer to the main question which is:

Why won't my computer go online via the wireless network?

We have wireless rigged up in our house and we have a USB adaptor which I plugged into my computer and followed all the in structions and entered the Network Key etc etc etc.  My computer is ow well and truly on the Network.  Signal is constantly Good and Excellent so no problems there.

But when I try to go online it is still having none of it.

I ran a connectivity test and it came up with someting about this 'Default Gateway', apparently my computer hasn't got one...

Does anyone know anything about what I'm talking about and could they tell me how to set a DG so that my computer can browse the net through the family pooter?

Any advice is good advice (within reason, I'm a sensitive chap).

thanks

Please delete or lock this thread if the answer is no, but:

is anybody else having problems with these forums?.. the last few days I've found them to be really slow and often the is says 'connection failed' but it's only on the AGS boards, nowhere else... and today I loaded the page up and the little image that says wether or not a board hs any new posts loaded up really strangely.

Might just be my computer.. if so, Im sorry and a mod is welcome to lock this thread.

Thanks

Hey.
I'm interested in playing some amature games (AGS or otherwise) based on or around the Monkey Island universe, but not necessarily remakes.  I have little interest in remakes but I would love to play other games that are set in the same world and expand my knowledge of the Tri-Island are and its history (even if it's unofficial).

Any suggestions?

General Discussion / Cheap flights.
Mon 20/08/2007 12:32:11
What do you guys know about cheap air travel?
I've dug myself into a bit of a hole.
I've decided to come home to England from Japan at the end of September, but I can't seem to find a flight I can afford.

the flight here cost me 360 pounds, but that was booked well in advance, so I gave myself a budget of 500.... this was a gross misjudgment. The cheapest I found was about 700 but most were in the thousands.... this is too expensive for me.

Does anybody know any little known cheap-air websites or tips or secrets that could help me shave the pounds off the cost of my flight back?   And don't say "yeh, book earlier".  I'm in deep shit if I can't find a cheap flight.

Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions.

General Discussion / Does anyone here write?
Fri 17/08/2007 10:45:57
I'm one of these losers who likes to call himself a potential writer but rarely actually gets anything down.  Procrastination, short-attention span, chronic writer's block, I don't know the reason but my output is pretty poor.

Does anyone else like to write?  I'm mainly talking fiction but I suppose the question goes for non-fiction aswell.

[edit]
Haha, I start a topic about writing and spell the title wrong.  Corrected now.

General Discussion / Free mp3s
Tue 31/07/2007 02:42:48
It's my sisters 18th birthday today and I wanted to make her a special video message using footage and photos from the Fuji Rock Festival, and I need a backing track.

I was wondering if anyone could send me or link me to a free mp3 of anything by Muse, Chemical Brothers, Kula Shaker, Ash, or even Lilly Allen. Or if you know any free and SAFE websites that I could lift a track from, or even part of a track as the video is only two minutes long and the first thirty seconds are catered for audio-wise.

I'm on a pissy laptop and I'm too scared to use limewire or even iTunes or any such software because my computer's already died 3 times in as many months so it obviously doesn't like such programs as it's been fine this time round where i haven't installed any such stuff.

Any help would be most appreciated. thanks.

Does there exist such a place where a list of all the available walkthroughs for AGS games are kept, or do we all just find them in various places as and when we need them?

It would be nice if there was just one link we could click to find any walkthough we needed.

I know theres a "Walkthroughs" sticky in the hints and tips board but the list is never updated. There should be a section in the new look website (if and when it's made) dedicated to them.

Until then, if anyone wants to send me walkthoughs of their games or anyone elses. PM me or email them to me at stu@toxicsock.co.uk and I will be happy to make a home for them on my website.

General Discussion / DirectX
Fri 01/06/2007 14:35:55
Hey people.  I won't make this into a habit.  I've been trying to set up my webcam and I've finally got it working.  Now Skype won't recognise it and I was hoping it would because I want to talk to my Sister tomorrow (we're twins and its our birthday and I'm in Japan so this is gonna be the first time in 24 years that we won't be able to share our birthday together).

The reason Skype won't recognise it is that it says I need the latest version of DirectX... and I can't download this from the Microsoft Website because I don't have genuine windows.

Is there anywhere Else I can get the lastest DirectX or does anyone know a way round the Genuine Windows dabacle?

Cheers people... Last question I swear.  I'll be working on 'A Windowcleaner's Apprentice' soon I'm sure you're all really excited (pfffhhttt).

General Discussion / Video Editing Software

Does anybody know a good (free) program I can use to cut and splice videos and add a soundtrack.
I don't want anything too technical, I'm just playing about with my new webcam, but Windows Movie Maker sucks.

Preferably something that will work on my relatively low-spec laptop, please.. hehe.

Thanks guys.

Adventure Related Talk & Chat / Suggestion
Fri 04/05/2007 15:25:57
On the short, medium and long game lists I reckon there should be an option to list them in order of realese, newest first, as opposed to alphabetically.  That way all the newest games will be easily accessible.

I dont know how easily this can be arranged or if anyone else thinks this would help, but I just thought Id suggest it.

Cheers
