Seems like most people are just announcing their own work rather than guessing, which is fine by me. Mine was Lockdown. Thanks to Snarky for the vote.

I hadn't intended to rip off Resonance, but I guess I did a little bit. I wanted to convey that it would be quite twisty and that you might not necessarily be able to trust even the player characters. In that sense it is probably even more like Resonance.

It's quite a challenge with such a low word count to convey an original idea, with a hint about gameplay, storyline, genre etc, while also trying to hype it up and make it sound appealing. I don't envy the people whose job it is to do this for a living...

Actually wait, I do envy them. That would be a great job.

By “non-horror” I mean any film of any genre.

Quote from: OP
As you can see, I've included a non-horror option with the idea that we could have a little breather from horror at regular intervals throughout the month. If people think that's a lame idea we can scrap it.

Well, I for one am famished. And we can hardly drink this wine without something to wash it down with (or should that be something to wash down with it?) Are we getting dinner at some point? What say we locate the dining hall and take it from there?

OOC
It does seem a bit weird having to lynch someone when our characters don't even know that one of them is going to get murdered tonight.

A Tale of Two Sisters is a great film. Would you really class that as non-horror though? I think it's very much a horror film. It's also Korean, not Japanese, unless we're talking about different films.

Have you released the soundtrack yet? If not, you ought to use this as the album cover.

Sorry I'm late. Just been shopping for a cushion. Welcome back Ponchius.

*handing out the soggy magazines*

According to my invitation, I was brought here on the basis of my oratory skills. My being a medical professional is nothing to do with anything. I initially rejected the invitation. My dinner-speaking service does not usually come without a fee. But I was too intrigued by the location. I expect I will bring up the topic of payment at an appropriate time. Where is the host, anyway?

And where are the corkscrews?

Wow. What a ride. Am I late to the party? My name is Dr. Stuart Pottington. I'm a GP. Pleased to make your respective acquaintances. I wasn't sure whether to bring a gift for our host so I brought a bottle of red and these back-issues of National Geographic and Woman's Weekly from the surgery if anyone is interested. They're a bit soggy now though, after that journey.

Congrats to Major Arcana. This nearly got my vote as it has a good adventure set-up. In the end I voted for Mulled as it just sounded so fun.

How did everyone know the elf was drunk?
Because he was legless (Sounds a bit like Legolas)

As it happens, my wife and I have been in a bit of Christie jag recently. Mostly Poirot, but we bought a copy of And Then There Were None a few days ago when we went back to the UK, so I'll be reading that very soon.

I'm in.

But one thing doesn't make sense. Usually when you go to a party you know who the host is. If we know that the host is the main killer then there isn't a game. Unless it's one of these things where some wealthy secretive billionaire invites a group of random strangers to his big house to solve a bunch of puzzles.

Why could no-one afford to live in Mordor?
Because everyone keeps chucking their valuables into the volcano.

All this talk of horror films reminds me of something.

Oh yeah. That was it. :P
#1716
Any more interest? Only 4 people have made filled in the form so far.
I'll give it another week before moving onto step three.

Kastchey, the person with the most difficult to remember consonant cluster in their name.

I thought it was only me that had that problem!
Haha. Nope. I always have to double and triple check it.

Well done to The Shaft by Kastchey, the person with the most difficult to remember consonant cluster in their name.

You will be contacted soon about choosing a topic for September :-)

*pokes Stupot*

I think Stu might be busy travelling back from England. I doubt he'd mind if someone took over the next one.
Yeah, sorry. It's been a busy week and I'd forgotten about this. Thanks for relighting the flame, Frodo.

Good horror and comedy are very similar in many ways. They are both about set-up and pay-off. You set up the scenario, you lull your audience into a false, sense of security, stringing them along for as long as possible before they lose interest and then hit them with the pay-off.

The only difference is the reaction. You either laugh or scream. As a fan of horror and comedy, my brain is wired to appreciate them both in a similar way. I can't say I'm much of a horror writer but I do write jokes and when I see a particularly well-constructed horror scene, I will often laugh out loud and clap to myself as if I were at a comedy gig.

When you talk about “jokes” in horror you are probably confusing it for “bad writing”. The jokes to which you refer would not be funny even if the game/movie were marketed as a comedy.
