I generally play alone, although I've played a fair few Adventure Games with my old man, and sometimes my mum would join in too... Broken Sword 2, Jack Orlando, Still Life, to name a few.

One thing I've noticed is that, in general, I can recall the contents of those games much more vividly than anything I've played alone.  I think this is quite interesting, because it seems that sharing ideas, taking turns and discussing the story as you play makes it a more interactive experience which helps you to really take things in and reflect on the story rather than just watching it play out like a movie.

My friend almost fell for a scam in Thailand where he was talked into going back to this guys house for a game of Blackjack. Then this big guy come in and bets heavily and my friend has a hand that can't possibly lose, so this guy calling himself 'Uncle' convinces my friend that they're playing this big guy for a fool and that my friend should go back and get the money needed to call the big guy's hand.

He didn't, thankfully... he saw what was happening and walked off angrily, but apparently this scam is quite common lots of people fall for it.

This reminds me of a thread last year about email scammers in which I sent links to these videos.   Funny as Hell.

I'm more excited about the opportunity to tell Yahtzee, while extremely intoxicated, that he is a massive cock. On behalf of ags of course. :p

Do you really hate the guy that much? coz whenever Yahtzee crops up you always come out of the woodwork to slag him off?  I can't tell if you're being tongue in cheek or have a seriously unhealthy grudge against the man.

Come on man, we use much cooler insults than that!

You fight like a dairy farmer.

I played and liked Hope.
But as a couple of other people have mentioned, you missed a trick at the end there.  A nice dialogue puzzle would have been perfect for the situation.

General Discussion / Fear in Dreams
Wed 20/01/2010 12:46:46
I had a really scary dream last night.  And by scary I mean real life-or-death fear... at some point I was in a lift (elevator to you crazy Americans) and I was supposed to be going to a pub I used to frequent, but when I reached the top of the lift I came out into this open, rocky space hanging over a masive chasm.

The only way to get to the pub was to move along this really narrow ledge, while holding onto posters and other things that were merely blu-tacked to the wall and could eaily be pulled off... below the ledge was a drop so deep I couldn't even see the bottom.  Thing is I was sure I'd been there before and that I knew what I was doing, but I didn't remember ever having to try and move along this ledge before.  However, I carried on because I needed a pint.

But for that 10 minutes or so that I was gradually shifting along the ledge, I was genuinely fearing for my life.  I was holding onto the posters and using peices of blu-tac like suckers to keep me close to the wall.  About halfway through I actually began to accept my inevitable death... there was no way I'd make it to the end... and I seriously considered just giving up and falling back into the Abyss.

But actually, I did make it... and got to the entrance of the pub, and it turned out the place had shut down long ago, and I'd have to go all the way back across the ledge to get to the new location of the pub.  But thankfully, like a well-edited movie, my dream didn't show me that sequence, and I found myself having a snowball fight in a bar, laughing and smiling.

I thought that dream was sufficiently fucked-up enough for me to re-tell it, and spark another long-overdue conversation about dreams, but the main point was the sheer, genuine fear I felt going across that ledge... It was horrific.

Does anyone else have any examples of genuine primal fear from dreams that they can share?

[EDIT - My English is terrible :(... so I've just gone through that again and corrected nearly 10 mistakes and typos]

I like to nominate "Ouija" as the best game that never made it past a few PM exchanges and two pages of my notebook.

General Discussion / Re: Life on mars.

I have little doubt that there is life far more intelligent than us on some planet out ther somewhere, so a few microbes on our neighbouring planet isn't really that much of a surprise.  But still it would be pretty cool if they could confirm it, and it would led to a lot of well-deserved interest for our Red cousin, and as Darth suggested, could lead to a long-awaited manned mission to Mars which would be amazing.

Yeh, I plan to turn the heat up a bit soon... maybe not extra posts a day, but bigger posts.  I havent been able to put too much time into them because of revision, but as soon as my last exam is out the way it will be approaching the final 10 days of the countdown.

I also don't plan on killing the blog once Season 6 has started.  I'll archive the 'countdown' posts and it wil become a regular Lost blog.  I'm going to write my own Episode analysis each week and have the odd feature here and there, as well as just carry on sharing my favourite clips and youtube videos, etc.

Regarding my Japan Blog.  Has anybody else ever kept a travel blog?  Or just an account of being/living in a foreign country... My previous incarnation of my Japan Blog wasn't exactly a success audience wise, but those who read it said they really enjoyed it.  So it's just a case of spreading the word really.

It's been a while since I had biology too :(
Who wants to do biology with me?

Sorry for the double-post...
I wanted to bump this, mainly because I'm still stuggling for hits, but also because I thought it would be interesting to discuss how people manage to get their blogs noticed?

When I initially plugged my Lost countdown Blog in here, I also tried plugging it in a few different Lost-related forums and on a couple of Lost groups on Facebook, and still I'm only getting about 20 hits a day on a good day.

What kinds of numbers do you get?  And how did you manages to spread the word?

I also have my Japan Blog which I have ressurected and given a make-over in preparation for my year abroad, which starts in August ;D.  While I'll get some of my friends and family to follow it, I could do with more of an audience.  I know personal blogs should be just that, personal, but sometimes it feels disheartening putting work into something that hardly anybody's going to see.

Please share your views, experiences, tips and tricks (and while you're at it, have a look at one of my blogs  ;) )

Rather than trying to work out the physics of whether or not the cubicle would break... why not just get the character to take a chainsaw to it!

Danman, i think you are getting migraines confused with headaches. It's a common mistake but migraines are in fact not just a really bloody bad headache but full blown reflex vomiting, loss of sight and weeks without sleep.

This was my point in my earlier post.  I wasn't really disputing the existence of the migraine, just pointing out that probably 90% of people who say they have a migraine are just being hyperchondriacs.  Ive had bad headaches... I've sometimes had a bit of nausea alongside them, but a Mars Bar and a glass of water usually does wonders... I wouldn't diagnose myself with a migraine until it knocked me out of bed screaming.

Quote from: MrColossal on Wed 13/01/2010 02:02:39... I can't even imagine what a migraine is like. I hope I never experience one...

Oh but you have... It's called a 'headache'.  Ever notice how, nine times out of ten, the types of people who 'suffer' from migraine are the same people who go to the doctors twice a week for a cough and get signed off work with depression just coz they're feeling a bit blue... A migraine is a hyperchondriac's headache.  Take some painkillers and have a rest for crying out loud.

[/controversial ;D]

I'm really looking forward to this film.  I love the story of Alice in wonderland and think there could never be too many incarnations of it.  And as a long-time fan of the Depp-Burton partnership, I can't wait to see what they do with it.

Domino, you'll be glad to know that there is a new Pee-wee Herman film in production... although Paul Reubens creeps me out a little bit...
