Something stabbing at the back of my brain tells me that a tool for purging all traces of Norton from your system exists somewhere on t'web. Might help with a fresh install.

The official Norton Removal Tool should do this.  But I think I'm going wrong somehwere else...  I was live with a technician from Symantec last night, and he played about in the registry and still couldn't get it working, and neither could his supervisor.

I wondered who would be the first person to say something like that.
Internet people are too predictable.

General Discussion / Norton Problems. grrr
Thu 20/08/2009 21:20:22
Nothing is going right for me lately.
Now My Norton 360 is being a tosser.
I only renewed my subscription 3 days ago at a cost nearly £70.
Now it tells me it wont load because of some error and recommends that I run the removal tool and reinstall the program.
So I do that, follow the intstructions, and then it immediately uninstalls itself again and tells me to restart the computer and try again.

Any ideas what's causing this?

General Discussion / Re: Post from your work

I'm not scrictly at work, but I'm in the middle of my working day, posting from the café on my lunchbreak.
This feels almost like a Twitter post... pointlessly informative.

Hehe, I love the fact that this professor has a question mark at the end of his name to distinguish him from The Cure's Robert Smith... surely the word 'professor' already does this...

Buggering fuckerations, it's looking more and more unlikely that I'll be showing my ugly face there now.  Sorry, fans.

Really? Do you call Robert Gates the DEE-fence Secretary?

Hmm, good point, but I still hear that a lot in American English... perhaps more in a sporting context.

* Defense or Defence? (i personally prefer S-version)

Not a question as such, just a possible branch of discussion...
Its interesting how American and British English (and others) differ in the stress of certain words, such as 'defence'.  Where as the Brits say deFENCE, the Yanks among us say DEfence.

Same with lemonADE vs. LEMONade and... damn, I can't think of any other examples right now, but there are probably thousands.

What was the reason Stickens was cancelled?  That's a shame.  :-(

Agreed... I stuck with the whole season, but despite being slightly disappointed nearly every week something kept drawing me back.. and the ending of the season was enough to ensure I'll definitely keep watching.

One little known fact* I found out recently. In the UK, if you take a taxi to the hospital you can claim the cost of the journey back on the NHS.

Funny, I was never too fussed about the British version of The Office, so I assumed I'd hate the American version.  But my friend got me to watch a few episodes and I found it hilarious.

Who said The Inbewteeners?  What a load of rubbish!  I've always been a bit like the guys in that show, so you'd think I might be able to relate to it... but the acting and the writing are so fucking terrible I've never been able to watch it til the end.

Friends might not be 'intelligent', but it was funny.  The only reason it's not that funny anymore is because it's constantly repeated.

Not everyone agrees but I happen to think Lost is pretty intellectually rewarding. It doesn't teach me anything new per se,  but it certainly stimulates your broader knowledge... especially if you're active in the fan community, because you'll find yourself researching about all kinds of things that the show hints at, from Ancient Egypt to B. F. Skinner... as well as increasing your desire to read classic literature every time a classic work is featured or referenced in the show.

Yeh man... I can imagine it being a monthly magazine-style thing with interviews,  tutorials, obviously reviews and previews and a competition... basically just a round-up of all the AGS goings on in a nice (maybe hour-long) audio session.

Rather than having the same people every month, there could be 3 or 4 different 'panelists' each time, one of whom gets the role of host, or presenter, to keep the discussions going... Then someone(s) could edit it nicely with sound effects and canned laughter, and of course the AGS theme tune (possibility for the next music contest?)

I say lets go for it.

Quoteedit: We should have a sticky thread when people are trying to find something instead of always having to start a new thread. Just an Idea.

Well why don't we use this thread? :P

Or this one... :)

General Discussion / Re: iPhones

Of course I'm generalising.  Alongside exaggeration, it's one of the many fun features of friendly banter.  One of my best mates owns an iPhone, and while I wouldn't call him a wanker, he certainly does like to flash it around in public.

I'm also quite sure nobody bothers to throw down euros 'just so you know they've been on holiday'.

Having worked in a grocery store in a very middle-class village for almost 6 years, I can tell you this is an almost fortnightly occurance.  And sometimes it's so obvious it's funny.

Anyway I just came back to this thread to link you all to this, yay!:  http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8169971.stm

I only recently discovered Spotify (along with torrents and the definition of "tldr").  It's quite a handy tool... except for the lack of original Chili Peppers stuff... it's all tribute stuff... still a good substitute for free though.

The game I'm designing involves 3 phases, the 1st of which is the initial exploratory phase, the 3rd is the final boss sequence, and the 2nd is the main bulk of the game which is basically 16 puzzles split into 4 branches of 4.

In phase 1, there will be 4 items. Each will be required for the first puzzle of each of the 4 branches.  The 4 puzzles in each branch will have to be done in a linear fashion, with the solving of each puzzle unleashing an item that will be needed to solve the next.  But with 4 such branches going on at the same time the player will, at any given moment,  have a number of puzzles on the go at the same time, hopefully giving the impression of non-linearity, while retaining some structure to the game.

If that doesnt make sense, here's a little ascii demonstration:

Code: ags

   Phase 1
      |        [exploration]
/   /   \   \  [find 4 items]

   Phase 2
|   |   |   |  [use items to solve first four puzzles]

|   |   |   |  [each puzzle gives the player a new
item with which to solve the next]
|   |   |   |

|   |   |   |  [the last puzzles will give the player
four more items which he will need to
Phase 3      solve the final "boss" puzzle
