Reading your blog has made me realise why mine is crap.

Mine is merely a record of things I get up to in Japan.  I try to make it interesting to read but theres a special ingredient missing, and I've discovered what it is.

Most decent blogs have opinions, rants and observations, whereas mine is just telling the reader what I got up to.  Your posts are short, but they're snappy and interesting.  Mine are long, because I feel I have to get in all the details, which frankly most readers probably skip over.

So I've decided to take a new approach.  I'm going to post more frequently, every one or two days, and even if I haven't done any particular activity I'll still pick a topical Japanese theme or something to talk about, and include more opinions and insight (if i can).

Then it might start reading like a proper blog.

There are more effective ways off getting publicity.  And they don't involve alienating half of your distributors.  I don't think this is a stunt or a gimmick.  It's just plain bad management.

LRM

Sexual desire for young children is unhealthy.

Whether or not the person in question acted on this desire it is still not healthy.  I'm simply saying, and I'll say it again, that people with such desires should be very careful not to let them grow into  uncontrollable urges.

Paedophilia is an illness.  You've said it yourself LRM. Most people go to the doctor when they have an illness to try to avoid it from getting worse.

If I find a lump on my left breast, I go to the doctor to make sure it's nothing serious and stop it early if it is.  My point is that everyone who has a lump, however small and "seemingly innocent" it may be should get it checked out to make sure it doesn't grow into something altogether more unsavoury.

What are you saying?  We should wait until we have full blown Cancer before we decide if it's serious enough to tell someone about it?  Same with paedophilia, sometimes it might not be a serious criminal urge, but it's still unhealthy.  It's their duty to get it checked out and make sure it isn't going to get them into any trouble.  They'd be doing themselves a favour as well as the community at large.

I'll repeat.

I don't assume that your friend, or anyone who has such thoughts, will some day act on his attractions.

I'm not making any assumptions.  I'm simply saying all of the kidnapping and raping paedophiles didn't just suddenly decide one day to become a what they are.  It started from something seeminlgy innocent.

I'm just saying people who have "seemingly innocent" attractions should be very careful not to let it get out of control.

How can you not agree with that?

I don't assume that your friend, or anyone who has such thoughts, will some day act on his attractions.  I do however, think that if these attractions are sexual (as opposed to merely admiring a pretty face) then it's surely a wise idea to be very careful and tell somebody incase these thoughts turn into something unsavoury.

All paedos probably started off with a mild attraction for younger children.  But I bet they didn't tell anybody, kept it secret, hidden and allowed it to grow, and before you know it they've got a PC full of child pron, newspaper clippings and polaroids all over their bedsit walls and bloodied shovel in the cupboard.  Now if they'd sought advice early on when it was just a budding fetish they might have been able to avoid the whole fucking mess.

Yeh, this has got to be really embarrassing for A&R, but really, what were they thinking?  I mean it can't have just been the brainchild of one person.  Surely A&R have a board of people who all thought it was a good Idea... I cringe just thinking about it.

Serves him right for not being vigilant.

Woohoo.
Sounds promising.
I'm glad it's going to be a standalone story.  Theres nothing really left to visit in the main mythology.

And this way, they could have a new film every 3 years or so and it will always have  new story.  It could be up there with James Bond.

Anyway not to go off topic... Cloverfield.

Didn't they say they wanted to do a Lost movie? It would be great if they did, but I doubt this movie is the one.

Yeh originally they were talking about having five or six series then ending it with a movie for the finale.  Well they've got their six series so if that's what they're going to do then I'm sure they've alread started planning it.

Chris Carter wanted the X-files to finish with the movie, but Fox said nonono, you have to make more seasons so the movie suffered and it ruined CCs vision of the show... Luckily ABC have given Lost an end date they can work to, so if they make a movie it will be awesome.

PS... What is Chris Carter up to these days?  There was supposed to be a 2nd X-files movie.  Dunno what happened to that.

So that's what Rimmer's up to these days.  I did wonder.

Is anyone here of the idea that it's going to be tied in with Lost?
I can't see it myself but it would be fun.
Perhaps the unseen monster is actually Smokey (Cerberus) who has been unleashed into the real world and wreaks it's special brand of havoc on NYC....

.... nah...

We have the Right to be Wrong

Haha, I like that.  Did you make it up?

I agree that you can't punish people for what they think, but if they think about little girls then maybe, Terran, that guy you once knew should still consider seeking professional advice before his passing attraction for 12-year-olds turns into something darker.

I'm at a loss as to what you mean by the edit, though

It was a funny metaphor.

I won't deny the fact that some people gain comfort and reassurance in their love for God, but why is it necesary to believe he actually exists.

I get my kicks from watching Lost.  It makes me feel better, I think about it when I'm bored.  And you know what?  I think it's even taught me a few lessons.   But I don't actually believe theres a mysterious Island out there, or a Dharma Initiative, or a Jacob.  Just as gaining strength from worshiping a God doesn't have to mean believing that he literally exists.

Yeh, I mean it's all well and good poking your nipples for comfort, but if nipples didn't exist then the people who do it would be considered slightly eccentric, to say the least.

You've got to laugh really haven't you..

Hey LRM, can't you turn the URLs on your blog into Links?
It would save me at least three seconds a day.
