General Discussion / Re: Expressing Atheism

Absolutley.
Stalemate.
But what I'm trying to say is that my mind is so made up that God doesn't exist.  To me there is no doubt whatsoever.  I know I can't prove it so that technically means here is doubt, but the reason I state is as a fact is because to me it is fact.

But I think it's more logical to think there is nothing there than it is to think there is a big invisible man (perhaps with a white beard) swirling around answering prayers and keeping an eye on us

God simply doesn't exist.  If other people want to believe he does, then that's up to them but they should go telling a ten-year-old kid not to love his own family.

Where did I say humans were the greatest power?  I don't know what you mean about the sun and the weather.  These are indeed very powerful forces, but they're not gods.  They are occurrences of nature, as are we all and we have science to thank for that.

Belief in God makes one unintelligent?

Then it wasn't long before it became obvious that god doesn't exist.  And it is fucking obvious which is why I get so angry.

Proof?

People like you are the reason why atheists get bad names. You have hatred towards those of differing believes. You skip being rationale and jump straight to name calling. You dont believe in the existence of God because you choose not too just like I believe in the existence of God because I choose too. There is not science to support either of our views, however you turn into an angry dog at the sound of the word God. The reason that most believers mock you is not because you are an atheist, it is because of your attitude. You have a false sense of superiority. "I dont believe in God, I am smarter than you." when in fact you are making claims without scientific backing just as I am. There is no mental superiority in being an atheist. Drop it.

No moox, a lot of believers in God are highly intelligent.  They just have this one small flaw in their logic.  I don't claim to be smarter than religious people.  Just eternally more enlightened.

If I'm slightly bitter about religion it's only because I didn't take to kindly to some guy telling me I should love a room full of strangers more than my own mother and sisters.  This is exactly the kind of person I mean.  I'm sure he was a very intelligent person otherwise.  But this tiny hole in his logic called Christianity had warped his common sense.

The way I say it is that (in my humble opinion, my very logical, humble opinion) to my mind I cannot possibly conceive the idea of God, therefore I don't like to say "I don't believe in God" because it suggests a degree of doubt.  So instead I say "There is no God"... It might sound arrogant but it's the only way I can express my atheism (which is what this thread is about).

You are a highly confrontational chap Moox... I hope you're not sill like this when we're married.

I'm a bit of an atheist preacher myself.  I used to say I respect other peoples religions, but I've lost my patience.  How can people so blind be in charge of our countries, and our armies.  It's unbelievable.

Let me tell you a little story...
When I was about 10/11 I went to Sunday school, called myself a Christian and sang hymns and ate biscuits with the other kids.
Then one day my Sunday school teacher said the love for your Christian brothers and sisters is the strongest love.  Stronger than blood relations.  So I said "you mean I should love the people in this room more than my own sisters?"... he basically said yeh, thats the answer, and I walked out of the room and my anger at the baptist soon dissipated along with my respect for God...

Then it wasn't long before it became obvious that god doesn't exist.  And it is fucking obvious which is why I get so angry.

You seem to be a very talented chap Mods.  I don't know if you've already done courses or whatever, or if you've taught yourself everything you know, so what I'm about to say might be pointless... but hear me out.

What if you take a course in digital music or whatever they call your area of expertise.  If you already feel you know enough then how about another course in something related to what you do... the reason I say this is because if you are in further education you may well be able to apply for financial assistance with rent and stuff... I'm not sure of the ins and outs but it might be worth having a look into.

Also this way you get to kill two birds with one stone.  Expand your knowledge and get financial help.

It's ok now guys.
I've been having trouble with Windows shitty movie maker.  It won't let me save the project saying something has been removed or modified.  I've had to send her the half-baked shitty version without back music.

I'm sure she'll still appreciate it.

Thanks for your tips and comments anyway people.  Especially yours Moox. You're such a flirt.  Maybe one day we will elope. But until then, lets be just good friends.

Google.com

I tried google, but it only comes up with either ones you have to pay for, or dodgy adverty sites that I don't trust.

UK doesn't have piracy laws?

I'm actually in Japan at the moment, and yes they have very strict piracy laws but I only need 90 seconds worth of song and i's only intended to be viewed once by one person. I'm on a tight budget and wanna save money where I can....

Besides I already own Kula Shaker, Muse, and Ash albums so their record companies have already had enough money from me.. haha.

The WHOIS address for slusho.jp is in Tokyo.  Maybe I should check it out.
I wouldn't know what to say though.

It's my sisters 18th birthday today and I wanted to make her a special video message using footage and photos from the Fuji Rock Festival, and I need a backing track.

I was wondering if anyone could send me or link me to a free mp3 of anything by Muse, Chemical Brothers, Kula Shaker, Ash, or even Lilly Allen. Or if you know any free and SAFE websites that I could lift a track from, or even part of a track as the video is only two minutes long and the first thirty seconds are catered for audio-wise.

I'm on a pissy laptop and I'm too scared to use limewire or even iTunes or any such software because my computer's already died 3 times in as many months so it obviously doesn't like such programs as it's been fine this time round where i haven't installed any such stuff.

Any help would be most appreciated. thanks.

My first ever post was waaay back on January 2nd 2007 and was a new thread entitled:

"Question about walk-behinds"

It wasn't too embarrassing as first posts go.  I had a genuine query and my grammar was pretty good (maybe some slight overuse of the word "but")

I haven't really got a worst post.  I try to make sure I only post something valid or funny.  And I normally try to keep my spelling and grammar up to scratch, although I've been slipping lately.

If, as loominus said, you are using a crap program then try something else.
But also keep practising.
I myself my crap at art but I managed to develop a cool technique with photoshop that manages (i think) to make my backgrounds look half-passable.

You don't have to get right on down to the nitty gritty of drawing whole backgrounds at this stage.  Just practice drawing the objects that are going to be in it.  The throne, for example.  Then post them here and take people advice.  Then, when you feel you are ready, combine all the objects into one beautiful background.

Things to remember:
Perspective is KEY (unless you're a flagrant practicing surrealist)
Shading and lighting are generally KEY if you want your image to stand out.
Functionality is also KEY (this means does your image work in terms of a walkable, playable background).
Dedication is KEY.

So many keys, anyone would think we were adventure gamers.

"Hugh's Hue" is the name of the book Dave Gorman was supposed to be writing when his Googlewhack Adventure begun.  So he ended up writing a book about that instead of Hugh's Hue.

Anyway, enough trivia... back on topic... The sofa looks very comfortable and is beautifully drawn, but it seems to me that some of the shadows are in the wrong place? It could just be that I've misjudged the positioning of the sofa but to my eyes it looks like some of the shading is positioned in the path of the light.

Can't waito to see more, and indeed the finished product.

H was my favourite.
I didn't really like the ones with shades or caps and of the 'naked' ones H looks the funnest... he's the one I'd want at my party.

I've barely touched upon the scripting phase of my game.  I'm going to get all my backgrounds and sprites etc gathered first then tackle the scripting.  It's the part of the process I am looking forward to the most, but it is also the most daunting for me.

Yeh the Wiki would be a great place to have them, and anyone could submit them because it's public... we should start a campaign to get people to submit walkthroughs to the Wiki.

And also a link to them should be available from the main page of AGS aswell.
#7855
Does there exist such a place where a list of all the available walkthroughs for AGS games are kept, or do we all just find them in various places as and when we need them?

It would be nice if there was just one link we could click to find any walkthough we needed.

I know theres a "Walkthroughs" sticky in the hints and tips board but the list is never updated. There should be a section in the new look website (if and when it's made) dedicated to them.

Until then, if anyone wants to send me walkthoughs of their games or anyone elses. PM me or email them to me at stu@toxicsock.co.uk and I will be happy to make a home for them on my website.

Hints & Tips / Re: A Tale Of Two Kingdoms
Mon 23/07/2007 16:51:25
I'm right at the beginning and I have a question.  I'm not stuck s such,  But something is confusing me.

Spoiler

I have the sceptor and I went into the chamber that had been prepared for me.  After some looking around and not finding much, I went to exit the room.  Instead of going into the hallway I was tken to a dream sequence where a woman told me to choose two of 7 objects.

But before I had the chance to check the objects out I accidently clicked on the exit, and instead of going back into the chamber I was in some kind of meadow. I wanted to go back into the room with the objects so I restored my savegame and started from back in the chamber...

... BUT... clicking on the door this time brought me back into the hallway instead of the dream sequence again, and nothing I do seems to be able to trigger it off again.

Is there way way of triggering this to happen or does it occur randomly? I really want to check it out before meeting the king for dinner.

Thanks

My WiP has been on hold for a while now, but that's because I'm in Japan, supposedly on holiday... haha.  Spending more and more time on the net every day.

There are good and bad things about leaving a project untouched for so long.

The good thing is, I'm, really looking forward to getting back on with it when I return because I'm generally pleased with what I have so far and would like to finish it.  So having a rest can make you more eager to get on with it .

The bad thing is after a few months break, you do notice the flaws more... I mean my backgrounds are highly flawed anyway, but that's due to my lack of artistic skills.  The biggest flaw I've noticed in my game is the storyline.  It is crap. And it:s something I'm really going to have to work on when I get back.

Some people here are reeeallly good at making games.  Art, music, writing and scripting are all things I take an interest in, but I don:t specialise in any particular area, so my game will only ever be average.  But I don't mind... as long as a few people say "cool man, I enjoyed that", then It will be worth the effort.

If you're having difficulties with the game proper then why not work on something else related to your game.  Build a website for it, design a theoretical CD case, work on the title screen, write a mini-game that might be included in the main game.  Or maybe even turn your story into a screenplay and imagine what it would be like on the big screen.

Super Jazz Man had quite a good fight scene.
Although that was more a case of learning the sequence and timing than all out one on one combat.. but it worked and was just difficult enough to piss me off which is always a good thing.

Lovely BG.
Progs river paintover is class, keep it in.
The flames look okay and the glowing is grand, but personally I would make them ever-so-slightly larger and add one or two more shades of red/orange/yellow to make them more dynamic.

Cant wait to see this in a game.

As for the dood.  He's perfect.  Good job.
