Yeh I think the description is quite important in attracting attention to your game but I've also found that when I'm browsing the games, I go for the ones which have a decent screenshot... some of the games on the list havent got a screenshot or if they have theyre dead urls.

Also useful is a decent website to back it up, if you've got a webpage dedicated to the game then it adds to the impressiveness of the individuals effort amd makes you want to play the game more... well it does me anyway.

don't think bought 10 albums in 2006, but of the few I did buy these were my favourites:

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Show Your Bones
Wolfmother
Long Blondes - Someone to Drive you Home

And the Best Album I've ever bought also happened to be in 2006....
...
Muse - Blackholes and Revelations.... it's awesome.

Other bands I like:

Placebo (Meds didn't make my favourtie album list, though)
Pennywise
Offspring
Terrorvision
Polysics
Sex Pistols
Mad Capsule Markets.
Bit of a mixed bag really but then I'm a bit of a mixed up individual. :o

This looks really good... one of the sleekest looking games I've seen on AGS so far... I can't wait to play it.

Christ this is a really old thread... prayers to the people who found it and bumped it rather than starting new threads.

Mine is http://www.myspace.com/stuartjforbes .
God know why I put the J in there... I think I thought it would give me more credibility as a fantasy author or something....Ã,  Which shows just how much of a fantasist I am... which is a good thing.

Ahhh, I didn't realise I had to use that particular object... I couldn't pick it up earlier in the game, wether that was just me or not.
Now i'm stuck on this colour thing like the rest of you.. i'll go through all the combinations later on, i've got work in a minute.

Name: Stuart Forbes

Age:23

Female/male:Male

1. How long have you been involved in the AGS community?
About a week

2. Why did you get involved in AGS?
I've been playing some free adventure games lately so it was inevitable I'd come accross this site and it inspired me to have a bash at making my own one.... I'm pretty pleased with the progress I'm making on my first project.

3. How do you feel that the fact that AGS is a freeware programme affect the community that has built up around it?
I'm amazed that this is freeware, and I'm happy.  Many people would pay to use software like this... but as you say there is a great community here and I hope to make some new friends here over the coming weeks.

4. How big a part does the AGS community play in your life?
Not much as yet, but that will increase the further I get into making my game.

5. Have you been involved in making any games using AGS? Only the one I'm working on at the moment... I haven't officially announced it yet, as I have no real screenshots, but I'll give you a sneak preview of it's title..... A Window Cleaner's Apprentice

6. Answer these questions if you have been involved in making AGS games:

a. Were you interested in game design/programming before you started using AGS? yeh, bit of elementary programming with DarkBASIC, but never really made anything substantial.

b. If no, do you feel that you would have got into game design without AGS?
It's something I've always liked the idea of, but maybe this will be the true springboard I've ben waiting to find.

c. Do you make games using other programmes, either freeware or not? How does the eperience differ?
DarkBASIC is completely different in that the scripting is number one... i mean it's important here, too if you want to make a decent game, but at least here you can use the interface and point and click for your results... Also Darkbasic is mainly for 3D games, unfortunatley I can't get my head round the 3D scripting, and I prefer 2D games anyway... call me old fashioned.

d. Has AGS inspired you to try and take up game design professionally?
Woah, there leslie.. one step at a time... I always wanted to be a pro games designer as a kid, but lack of artistic skill and a not enough programming practice has led me to this point in my life... 23 years old, still haven't got a clue what to do with my life... if I realsie I'm quite good at this I might try and pursue a career in the field, but I'm allergic to grass.

7. Do you feel that there is a gender divide in the AGS community?
This area will always be ,ale dominated, but I've een pleased to see one or two females here... (at tleast they say they are, cant trust anyone on the net these days though, can ya).

8. Are you likely to feel differently about a game if you discover it's made by a female? In what way?
I might think, cool, this was made by a female, respect.  But really, its not like theres much difference.... its not a breast-feeding contest its adventure gaming.

9. Do you feel that AGS makes it easier for females to get involved in computer game design? In what way?
I think AGS makes it easier for ANYONE to get into game design, so yeh.

10. Do you feel that there is a difference between the types of games created by males and females?
I'm not sure If i've played any by a female yet, but I'll be sure to look one up and I'll report back with my verdict.

11. Any other comments? Happy new year everyone... (i know it's a little late)

The game I'm working on (as yet unannounced as I'm waiting on a copy of photoshop so I can start making some decent screenshots) is sure to break a few records...

A Picture of a Page 3 Girl, a bag of pretzels and a squeegy are but three of the items in my character's inventory.

I don't really have favourites as such but having recently played 5 Days a Stranger, I was amazed that such a quality game was made on AGS, but had been taken one step further with an amazing plot worthy of an Oscar in my opinion.  Infact if I was a screenwriter or director I would want to make a film based on it.

PS.. someones gonna have to teach me the "spoiler" tags, so i can be a bit more specific.

cheers.

Hey, I'm really enjoying this, the puzzles are tight and the atmosphere is great but I'm afraid to say I'm stuck.
I'll pose my problem in the hints section. cheers.
Well done on a great game... I look forward to your future projects.
#8093
I've finished it, and killed the boss.
Brilliant game, thanks a lot.
Difficult to say how long it took to complete... I tend to take a while anyway, because I like to click on everything and try ever combination just incase I've missed something., but I probably spent a total of about 6-8 hours playing it. over a period of 3 days... (Hey I do have a full time job you know).
I thought it might have been a tad longer but it was definatley worth the money.
;) ;) ;)
P.S Theres supposed to be 4 endings am I right???... I only got 3, could you PM me telling me what they are so I know which one I missed... cheers.

I've Just bought the game after playing the Demo which I thought was Ace.
I haven't played any of the full game yet, coz I'm about to go to bed, but I'll give it a little review when I've played it.
I don't see why people are moaning about having to pay for it.  Some things cost money, it's called life and it's not like it's a massive hole in the wallet. It really is just a token gesture as a sign of respect to the authors who have put in a lot of time and effort and money into creating what is bound to be a great game, better than some of the old-school MI wannabes from back in the day.

Just finished it.... wow.

Man, I promised myself I wouldn't do this...
Yes, I've realised my mistake and it's too embarrassing to repeat here...

...

... but I will anyway... I had taken the book the whole time I just didn't see it in the inventory because it's black... I know... And I'm thinking of trying to make one of these games?... Ha!
#8097
Hey, I've made it to day 5 of this masterpeice and I got stuck.  I'm afraid to admit I resorted to the walkthrough, but either it was wrong or I've found a bug.

I've found the remains of Matthew DeFoe and the walkthrough says I need to get another Occult book, the black one.  but when I click on the shelf nothing happens, I've tried clicking on everything and I can't get it.

I think that it may be a bug and that I was supposed to get the book before digging up the tiles... unless anyone else knows what I'm doing wrong.

Cheers guys.
#8098
Ahh thanks guys.  I think I will just delete the walkable area behind the fence, as you say GG, it's not really worth going behind there.

Thanks for that bit of code Khris, but at this early stage I'm just trying to learn my way around the interface before plunging into the script.

Thanks again.

Hi guys, I'm new to this, but I promise I've tried to work this out for myself before I posted this message, but I'm not having much luck finding the answer.

I'm on the first screen of my game and I want to walk behind this fence:

But no matter where I place the baseline, there are always moments when the character will either disappear from in front of the fence, or pop out from behind.

I think this is because of it's isometric perspective.Ã,  I was wondering if there was any way around this.Ã,  It would be good if you could tilt the baseline (there's an idea for the next version).

If all else fails I'l just have to make it so that the character can't walk directly behind the fence, just on the patch of grass that is visible... which brings me to my second question:

I can't figure out wether or not there is a way to Erase or backtrack parts of the "walkable area", so I looks like I'll have to delete the whole mask and redo it with my admendments... Is this the case or am I missing something obvious.

Thanks for reading, I promise I won't be one of these annoying people that constantly posts questions which should easily be found in the FAQ.
