Looking forward to playing this adventure, as I'm a fan of the original trilogy... (not the new ones, they suck)..

Hints & Tips / Re: Below Zero: Prologue
Sat 31/05/2008 14:35:57
Since there is no official thread for discussing this game (maybe you could create a topic in the 'completed games announcements' forum, as it is a completed game for the MAGS), so for the time being I'd like to do it here (or if any moderator wants to move it, it's alright with me)..

I really like the graphix, characters and the premise of the story (for what story might lie ahead)..
now for some negative pointers:
- you can walk across the left tent
- translation needs some correcting
-
Spoiler
entering the tent on the right had too small clickable area

I do hope you will continue work on this adventure, as I really like where this could go.. But I do hope you redo the interface, where the mousecursor hints (blinks) like 'Robotragedy' (also great AGS game) if you are hoovering over an item, or if you are hoovering over an item a hint (in words) is shown like 'Once upon a crime' or 'Infinity string' (also excellent AGS games) or .. I personally don't like the pixelhunt as I don't have that much time/patience to play my favorite genre, and I think it distracts from the game/story itself.

So I really hope you are creating a whole game from this prologue, how long did it take anyway to create this prologue?

And, yes, the game is nearing completion.

So, voice actors, if you're interested, contact me!

cool, but I guess it will take some time if you are still looking for voice actors.. No matter what, just keep up the great work, also on 'Project X' as that seems to be an original game, so IMHO is more interesting.. but me loves to play SQ2 remake.. hehe..

good luck

Well, Terramar (I only have seen the movie, a VERY BAD movie with Lana Lang and Jimmy from Smallville as protagonists xDD)

But Terramar comes from a very inspired fantasy-world series of books, if In't wrong.

Nah, I rememberd Terramar cause the protagonist is orphan and the adoptive father is a Blacksmither; From the first the prota discover his magic powers and special destiny..

Terramar? oh you mean earthsea.. hmm looking at imdb it seems that it was only 90 minutes, so maybe you saw the heavily cut version as the one I have (and is available here in the netherlands) is 166 minutes, and IMHO it was one of the best hallmark miniseries, and it did won a lot of awards so I guess most people didn't think it sucked..

Just finished the game... great game, nice visuals.. I did have to use the hints for 3 items
Spoiler
chinese food, melon and extra coin

, all 3 more because they where too much hidden in the background (or next to another item)..
looking forward to seeing another new game... keep up the great work..

AGS Games in Production / Re: Resonance

OMG, I almost fell out of my chair when I saw the screenshots.. this is absolutely amazing especially for the low resolution.. man, if this plays just as good as it looks, it is as sure favorite for many people...

Hope to be able to play it soon.. at least, good luck, and thanx for sharing it with us.. ;)

fun game, even though it has some bugs (foremost bug i've encountered are the doors in the lab which sometimes open/close but you can still walk into them and then you get stuck)..
I did have to use some hints sadly :(  but I hope you will do another one.. good luck and thanx for the great game.. ;)

Just played the game and it was a great short game.. Hope you'll expand it into a larger game, the character itself is quite a funny character...

I like the comic.. Hmmm.. difficult to say about the new look as I really liked the 'simple' look of the previous games, but I think it is like 'the aprentice' games, and those also looked great, but I hope you would also adjust the characters a bit so they wouldn't look more like the background style, now they just popoff a bit..
And the 3d version looks funny, but I can't imagine a nice adventuregame in that look..

But good luck, looking forward to a next game of the great sydney... hehe.. loved the previous games..

Thank you all for you messages. I'm happy you like my game. I will try to correct the points you told me about for a future version of the game - including, I hope, new original musics and an english translation. :)

Looking at the screenshots I'm very interested in the game, but due to it being in the french language I'm not able to play it.. In regard to an english translation, make sure someone who know the english language well proofreads it first (I've seen enough great adventure games ruined because of lousy translation)..

The file formats have changed, so you wouldn't be able to play a 3.0 game with the 2.72 engine.

then it would be wise to make sure the Linux engine can run both, so no need for different 'files' for different games, just like ScummVM, one engine to rule them all ;) Hell, it would even be unbelievable cool to have AGS support in ScummVM, so really only one engine to play all your favorite adventure games..

As noted in the instructions that come with AGS, you must rename game.exe to ac2game.dat or make a symlink to game.exe as ac2game.dat.

You cannot tell ags which file to use as the game file. It looks for ac2game.dat in the current directory.

Hmm.. why not just look for any .exe (and check some data to see if its an AGS exe (that's just reading a binaryblock and check for some specifics, so real easy)) in the current path and show a little selectionscreen (if there are more than one).. this would be much better/userfriendly than having to rename blahblah.exe to ac2game.dat.. Also config files and savegame files can be named the same as the exe, so everything can go in one folder (or any specific folder).. But then again, linux never has been really userfriendly..

Keep up the good work, and hopefully a new version will be able to run all video's/animations... And for plugins it would be better to get a framework/api (if it isn't already) so it would be possible to port plugins from windows to linux..

I'm also interested, but only in the english version (even though I can read german perfectly).. When developing an adventure (especially freeware) keep in mind that most people can read english since it is THE language used on the internet..
Also reading this thread I think most people want an english version.. And if it's only 2 days extra work I guess it would be 2 days well spend.. (make sure you let someone who is really good at english proofread it..)

I'm looking forward to play the game..

For your next project (as I do hope you guys will make a new adventure) be sure to translate the game as you are developing it (so just like you are doing propably one room at a time in german, do the translation immediatly after you finish the german text for that room, that propably will save you a lot of time)

ahh, just finished the second one.. Puzzlewise it's much more logical as the first one, I only needed help with 2 or 3 points (One because somebody has seen too many CSI's I guess, i personally wouldn't have guessed it how to get some specific liquid), another one was something I knew that I needed, but didn't know how to get it, just completly missed the item laying around), and I also missed one thing embeded in something gold. So most things where just because I didn't see stuff laying around..
I really liked the story, the graphix are really fabulous (even now).. The only thing that I was very annoyed by a lot of the times, was the bad english. I know english is not his own language (nor is it mine as you propably can see in my own gramar here), but this was just ridiculous.. Maybe someone could help him out and correct the faulty text, so this game is even better.

Can't wait to see another game released by mister Pijin.. (still got to play the professor game)..

ness some people prefer to find the answer in a structured walkthrough. I usually use the hints & tips if I'm stuck but this is a long game and it has a long thread and I find myself readig a lot of it every time to find an answer. Asking a question that's already been asked people will usually respond by check previous answer and besides when you ask q eustion there's the wait for the answer. So for a game of this length I would be more comfortable with a walkthough to refer to cos I play it for 15-30 minutes a day not every day due to lack of free time so I can't remember all the puzzles that need solving and all locations in the game. I'm sure some users would like a walkthrough too,  so who are you to say no need for a walkthrough?

Well, that's exactly my thought, the biggest problem with the hintthreads is that a lot has been asked a zillion times (people are just too stupid/lazy to read the beginning), and with all the 'hiding' you still have to select it just to see what the question/answer is you are looking for (yes I'm one of those people that actually first tries to read the thread before asking a question), and with that you do see some answers you don't already want to see..
What I think this site needs is a new Hints system, much like Universal Hint system (http://www.uhs-hints.com/) or OpenUHS (http://freshmeat.net/projects/openuhs/)..
