Not crap, at all. Reminds me of Another World/Flashback :)

Yes, I find patience to be the hard part - he says with at least 10 games on the go at once.

tell me about it. I did some brainstorming for my game idea today, and ended up with 2 new unrelated ideas.

This idea interests me, if only because I have a similar, yet different thing in mind.

Or, it could look like a quick & frantic note that someone's written down.

I like the idea of a notepad with those hastily scratched onto it, and yes, at a second glance, menu options do clash with the background a little.

in the second picture, there is a repetition of a little black pattern which takes away from the image, and makes it obvious you've tiled a texture here. there's numerous tutorials around the web on this sort of thing, though I don't know one of the top of my head.

Basically, make it blend in better.

With the sign (same picture), the red on yellow doesn't work very well -- too hard to read it easily. It also looks like the grass is eating the wall on the left side of the door, rather than covering part of it.

I don't like the shading in general, though it is better than just plain colors. Think of how the rooms are lit (add a light in the third, too), and work out how light would affect the room. (like, with the fourth room, the light from outside coming in.

Don't let anything deter you, however. Sometimes criticism can make you less excited about your game, and you seem fairly excited, so don't let that happen. Keep up the good work.

Even worse than walking deads, are whatever you call it in goldrush where you can suddenly, randomly contract a disease that kills you. baaaad :)

Keep the newspaper, but yeah, put the story in columns, and if that's a front-page, a picture. You could even use the one you said you were working on for an alternate screen.

Okay, I'm thinking of actually doing a  KQIII VGA remake (if no one else turns out to be doing it...), so i put it into the AGS engine real fast to try it out.  I made a preliminary Gwydion sprite too.

Looking good to me :) Only thing that could be changed in my eyes, is to maybe make things a little lighter. Is that sprite a repaint, or brand new?

Go for it! KQ3 was always my favourite of that particular series, anyway :)

Maybe you could copy & paste it or something?

The irony ;)

Thanks for the feedback. It's been years since I've attempted to do a cartoon-like face, anime or otherwise, and this is probably the best I've come up with so far on computer. To be honest, I didn't go out of my way to clean it up, so it probably suffers a lot because of that. I like to think my hand-drawn stuff is better, but not significantly enough to scan it and use that instead (with touch-ups) yet.

With the mountain, I did this in deluxe paint (as I've said), and well, I neither retraced a photo, or use textures. I guess in a way you could say I used a type of texture, as I was using a combination of translucent, and funny polygon shapes over and over, then changed the colour. I hate how the mountain ends on the left, too, but love the part on the right. The side of the mountain itself is something similar, but it's all done by hand (spray and shapes aside)

What all this is about, is I'm trying to find a style that suits me, and i'm happy with. I don't want to go into specifics (well, I do, but I won't), but both pictures fit into my idea, even though they're wildly different. -- guess I need to bring them more in line with each other ;)

That eye thing is awsome! thayt's all i can say!

Thanks :) I've done another similar picture recently, and I'll try using both. Biggest problem I have is whether these ones set the bar too high for the rest of my graphics, which will have a different theme.

Thanks everyone :) Your advice has been great, and now the only real issue I have is learning to be patient enough to plan things out.

I think I'll be going with my most recent idea, which I'm not going to reveal because I don't want to create a whole load of anticipation. One day I'll revisit my original game ideas, hopefully when I'm better at the art/music side of things :)

With luck, this thread will also help others out, too.

Yeah, except it was Monty Python... british humour rocks. ;D

The one where the whole town has the same name? My memory is failing me ;)

Every aussie is should be named Bruce, and every welshman should have the last name of Jones...

haha, reminds me of a Hale and Pace sketch I saw years ago.

I'm of the opposite opinion, there, and think the last names will sound matrix-y, but that it would be a bad thing if you weren't making a matrix game. You'd probably be better off with something that stands out for your theme, rather than one that makes it look like another.

There are many options open to you, and it really depends on you. I don't know your whole idea, but perhaps names are illegal for a certain bunch of people, who are only assigned numbers, colors, or arbitary words, or are allocated names on a hotmail basis (Masse32? :)) Perhaps names in general are phased out, as a way to dilute the notion of 'self' and identity, so people go along with the flow, and a group of rebels adopt names of their own.

The really rich/important people could have lavish names, if there's been a nuclear war, people could name themselves after the random items that weren't destroyed, and are lying around the ruined cities. "Hi, I'm Main Street" (okay, that was a bit much).

Anyway, that's just my take on your question, though it's a little indirect. My advice is don't settle for something you're not 100% sure of, but be ready to move on past the issue if you can't find anything yet.

Just so you know it: That's the point! ;) If it didn't look utterly ridiculous, it wouldn't be funny. It's supposed to look pathetic.

I don't like to be rude, but you weren't completely successful. It's not funny. Your other goals have been achieved with ease.
